I am English and i'm coming from the British Police aspects.

I have studied the Police for 1 and half years in college and now applying as a Special Constable.

Our Police in Great Britain is so dynamic as we have loads of divisions and more than 1 way being a officer.

Let me start of with Police Community Support Officer (PCSO)

PCSO: The Police Community Support Officer is a paid role in the British Police where you have no power besides ticketing and detaining someone until a Constable arrives.

The PCSO's are for mainly city area's to combat anti social behavior by ticketing or warning them.

Special Constable: A Special Constable is a regular Police Constable with all the powers but they don't get paid for their duties.

Police Constable: A Police Constable is basically the same in many other countries, patrol, respond, investigate, arrest. Normally a Police Constable responds to any crime taking place unless it's a operation they're not apart of. They also respond to emergencies from someone being murdered to a house fire.

The PC/SC have great tactics to find a crime happening as they're always in communication with the CCTV, 999 Operator and nearly every Police car has a ANPR system in, They always have something to do and rarely have nothing.

Popular sections of the Police

• Dog unit - Normally called to search for someone or something (Persons, money, drugs, firearms, ect.)

• Air unit - Search/follow a suspect/criminal.

• Armed unit - Responds to any threats of firearms.

• CID (Criminal Investigation Department) - Investigates criminal activity and organisations.

• Traffic unit - Normally on the motorway but responds anywhere in their area for high speed pursuits/traffic violations.

• E-Crime unit - Internet crime.

I've briefly gone over the Police but you can find a lot more from http://www.police-information.co.uk/index.html (Not a official site but it's recommended.)

The Swedish Police Force is pretty similar to the British police, except that the Swedish are allowed to carry guns.

We have the following units:

- Regular Patrol Officers (Constables) - They are the first responding officers to any call-out. If the call-out is too dangerous, they call in Piketstyrkan. (see below)

- Piketstyrkan, They are the Swedish Police Special Response Units. They conduct raids and intervene when there is a shoot-out. I'm pretty sure they act as riot police along with patrol officers as well.

- Dog Unit, just like regular patrol officers but they have a dog instead.

- Air Unit - Helicopters used for searching for suspects on the ground, air rescues, sea rescues and sometimes they act as an air ambulance

- Traffic Police, who usually patrols in unmarked units on the highways.

- Detectives, they investigate murder cases, drug dealers, etc.

Then I represent Russia, I guess.

I'm a Senior Investigator Assistant of the Investigative Committee of Russia. This is a federal body which only conducts investigations. The actual policing is carried on by the Police force of Russian Federation. Each subject of federation, municipal district, and city houses a subdivision of the police which reports to headquarters in Moscow. Nothing like American system, sadly.

RFP has many different divisions:

1.State Traffic Safety Authority, which is responsible for road safety, traffic enforcement, vehicle&drivers' database. Ordinary police are usually unable to pull people other for traffic offenses, and Traffic Cops usually do not interfere in crimes. Frankly speaking, those guys are cowards and also corrupt as hell.

2.Public Safety Authority. Primarily uniformed patrols.

3. Special Units Authority

4. Special Mobile Unit Division - provides heavy support to regular police during public events, manifestations, however, they are not like SWAT, more like heavily armed police in vests and with APC. More military-like police, yeah.

5. Investigative Authority (only certain crimes)

6. and Operational Authority.

and more, like IID, but they're not too interesting.

Investigations are primarily carried by the Investigative Committee of Russia. However, Russian criminal process includes two main levels. Investigators do procedural stuff: file protocols, conduct official interrogations and searches, open and close criminal cases, and charge individuals. But they - or should I say 'We", cause I'm a part of that system now :D , we lack 'muscle'. An investigator usually carries no gun&cuffs, has no lights and sirens, don't break into apartment or give chases.

Police Operational Authority provides that kind of support. They do that 'detective movie' shit - spy on people, chase them, gather evidence, search for people. When Investigators need heavy support, they are able to call in the Special Mobile Unit, to forcefully break into on a search  warrant, for example.

Hope that'll be interesting for some people :D

I'm no expert on Dutch police, but I know a few things.

You've got the normal patrol units that do the basic stuff like responding to callouts, sometimes doing traffic stops and stuff, you know the drill (they do carry weapons by the way.

Then there's the traffic units, divided into highway patrol (national), normal traffic units (local-ish), motorcycle units (both), unmarked units (also both). and accident investiagation (mainly local)

Also important is the aviation unit, based from Amsterdam Airport that supports the other units and does regular flights to check for anything weird.

Then there's the specialised units like the marine units (very important when you've got a lot of water), riot police, and SWAT units (which surprisingly doesn't drive armored vehicles, but unmarked expensice German cars) and crime scene investigators and such.

Hopefully this is usefull, as I said I'm no expert

In My country , When police stop a Car at Traffic roadblock(checkpoint) or so call sobriety checkpoint , The Police officer will ask For the driver and pedestrian ID or identify Card and Radio Back to the Police Headquarter the Name of the person checked. unlike in US , whereby the police check them and proceed  to their Police car computer and check their ID . like what we did in LCPDFr

BTW guys , IS Spot-check (ID) A part of the parcel in Policing jobs?In Singapore we are required to Show our identify card When requested by police . sad to say we have no Human right

In the USA cops can't just approach a citizen an check ID...for the most part.  In New York City, they had a 'stop-and-frisk' policy, which I believe now has been done away with since the new mayor can into office (Deblasio sp?).

This is actually unconstitutional, as unreasonable search and seizure (5th Amendment of the US Constitution - guarantees right to privacy of his/her person and personal property against unreasonable search and seizures), but far as I know nobody has challenged any of the stop-frisk in Federal Court...yet.

DrDetroit

In the US, it's more complicated, and depends on the state. Restrictions are often at the national level. (BTW, drdetroit: the lawsuit against stop-and-frisk was in federal court, and stop-and-frisk was ruled unconstitutional at trial. The appeals court looked like it might have overturned the ruling, but NYC dropped its appeal when the new mayor came in. Not sure what precedent that leaves, though.) Police have no general right to stop you without reasonable suspicion that you're involved in criminal activity. If they do have reasonable suspicion, they can pat you down for weapons (the NYPD's stop-and-frisk was a vastly expanded form of this, where cops would stop people without particular suspicion, just for being in the wrong place and/or being a minority, depending who you listen to). Police can also ask you your name in some states if they have reasonable suspicion, and in those states, if you don't have strong reason to think that giving them your name will somehow incriminate you, you have to tell them your name. However, it's never been tested whether they can demand an ID; all they can definitely require is your name.

This changes when you get in a car, at which point they CAN request your license if they have reasonable suspicion.

Thats because we have low amounts of firearm crime and if our beat officers don't carry firearms its more likely to keep firearm crime down. Also because the UK has one of the policing forces in the world :D
