New Gaming Build - NEED OPINION

Featured Replies

Hey everyone! It's been way too long.

I was recently given a grand to build a new gaming computer. I am super excited to get it, but I need your help. I am not the best at building PCs, I know what is good for my budget, but I know it can be confusing sometimes. I need some of the more tech-aware people on this forum to help me out.

Basically I want to see if my CPU/GPU are the best I can get for the price, and I wanna make sure it's a good build before I buy it.

SPECS:

Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core  (CPU)

MSI B85-G41 PC Mate ATX LGA1150  (motherboard)

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  (RAM)

Asus GeForce GTX 650 Ti 2GB  (GPU)

Corsair 500W ATX12V  (PSU)

Thanks in advance!

If I were you, I'd get two sticks of 4GB of ram instead of one of 8GB.

Thanks! I was actually thinking of changing it I just got lazy

There is no need for bumping your thread 3 hours after posting. Please refrain from doing so in the future.

My objective was not intending for bumping, my bad.

Not a bad build at all! You know, the GTX 750TI is roughly $30-$40 more (depending on the brand) and provides better performance. Maybe something to consider.

I might consider that, because that would still make me under my budget. Thanks! :-)

Pretty solid build! But something you could do to boost performance a bit: lower your CPU to a less powerful i5. It won't effect performance much and you will still have a quad-core, overclockable CPU if you get a 'K' series. With the money saved from that, bump up your GPU to a GTX 760. It provides awesome performance for the money, and it only requires 1 6-pin PCIe connector, which your 500w PSU should come with.

Here is the build I came up with: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3mz6N. With the i5-4670k you should be able to get a solid overclock with no overheating issues with cooler I suggested. Also you should be able to max out GTA IV with ENB, at 40-45 FPS. You should also be able to max out any other currents games with the GPU I suggested. Here is a video of me playing GTA IV with that GPU and my specs are in my signature. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L39QPaIAPnE. As you can see I think the card runs the game very well. If you need anything quote me. Good luck building!

If you want to put more money towards other things consider changing the processor to an $85 AMD Athlon X4 750K. If you need some more convincing look at this.

I would personally go with a GTX 660 over the 650. It's a little more money, but much better performance.

If he were to go AMD based I would recommend one of the FX series chips, possibly the 6300. With that, you get a 6-core CPU that performs surprisingly well for the price point. Plus, it's a Black edition CPU, so you can pretty much overclock the hell out of it with good results. I have that CPU myself, and with a ~$60 water cooling loop, I got it to 4.3GHz, and my temperatures at max load don't exceed 40-45c.
