They want to tax EVERYTHING

Featured Replies

So I was at my grandmas today and she told me that here in NC they [state government] want to start taxing the number of roadway miles YOU drive! Now I understand the NC has 78,000 miles of road (2nd to Texas) and that those road need to be paid for BUT this is a little too far.

What do you guys think? Is this fair? I don't think so.

I don't know about you people, some may not realize yet, since many are young here, but you will.  I pay nearly 50% of my gross income in taxes...Federal, State, County, Local, City...I'm not even counting gas tax, cigarette taxes, taxes on purchases, taxes on my gas and electric, my phone bill taxes, plane ticket taxes, taxes on my taxes...enough is enough already.

That means I work 50% of the year for the government.  They steal my production, which means they steal my time.  You steal someones time, they are a slave.

Now the scum want more of my money...they can suck it!  I feel really bad for anybody making under $60k-$70k a year...this regressive tax hurts the middle and lower income the most.  I can afford it, that income range can't.

Insidious at best...downright evil if you ask me.

EDIT:  BTW: yes, they do tax everything and they want all your income.  They will dole out enough for you to suffer a short life, then throw you into an Obamacare pool where you'll die of thirst in the hallway of a hospital.

If you try to sit, they'll tax your seat, if you try to walk they'll tax your feet...taxman!!! (the Beatles - Taxman).

You want to know something else that is downright stupid....in my county here in NC they say you have to pay a tax on your PETS!!!! And that's why when I become a trooper I hope I don't have to move back to my county (that and all the hippies that live in my county)

Same here in the form of a "dog license tag"...I didn't register my dog though...and never will.  I walk him all over the place without that stupid tag too.  Of course I had to pay taxes when I bought the dog....bastards will get you coming and going.

There was a news report that a local city here, Royal Oak, was going to send officers door to door to check for dog licenses.  Never happened, but there is supposedly a memo floating around from some city office about the "enforcement action".  I wouldn't put it past them for one minute.  Friggin' like Nazi Germany or Mother Russia if you ask me.

I consider my dogs (2) to be like family, and I don't think it is fair to tax a life or family "member". All the state / county wants is money to spend at things we really don't need.

Here's something off topic: Carrboro NC is thinking about Banning Drive through's!!!!! don't believe me? http://www.wral.com/carborro-may-extend-ban-on-drive-throughs/13531216/ (this is one of those hippy towns I was telling you about)

US have 12.5 T deficit. and they talking about dollar collapse, i just hope it wont happen or its lies because if dollar collapse it can be worst in america.  :pirate:

Try over 17-trillion (17,000,000,000,000)...that's 17e12  for those mathematicians....not 12.5.

If the US dollar collapses, so will the world economy, since the worlds reserve funds is the US dollar.  We'll all be in deep doo-doo, since bread will cost more than you can carry in a suitcase.

this is just sad, the government tries to rape you on everything you do Canadian Government is no different, when I bought my Crown Vic last year I paid $1200.00 for it, $1000 on paper, I registered it, inspected it & I get a phone call telling my I owe $167.63 in tax for the car, I was baffled, they told me that they priced my car worth at around $1500.00 & I asked how the hell do you know what my car is worth if you've never seen it, your taxing me on a transaction that had nothing to do with you, so why do you need to make money off it?, PLUS they charged me $260.00 for my plates because of the size & I STILL had to pay $135.00.., our Governments are broke & need money, plain & simple, what I don't get is, why WE (the people) have to pay for their overspending..

EDIT: What the hell are they even doing with our taxes that they need more revenue to pay for highway construction?

The #1 problem with most politicians is that most have never had a job in the private sector.  Never had to meet payroll, employee expenses, liabilities, balancing the books (budgets), hire/fire employees, pay the employer payroll taxes, tax withholding, and have never had to meet sales deadlines and projections.

How the hell does someone whom has never been in business pretend to know what is best for business.  How do you pass laws if you have absolutely no idea how it will effect business costs because of lack of experience in private industry...in the end it costs you and me, the taxpayers, and in the end employment numbers.

A NY senator here in the US (forgot his name, a Dummycrate- Moynihan I think) a number of years ago tried to open up a business in NYC after he retired from the US Senate.  The business went out of business within the first 6-months.  This idiot Senator said in an interview that had he known what it was like to run a business, he would have voted differently.

That's all you need to know.  Pay attention to those you vote for and their previous actions...not what they say in the heat of an election, because they all lie about what they believe.  It's what they have done in past votes that will tell you what they really believe.

Wake up folks!  Time to take the power back.

Some good facts you pointed out, but how does one get into politics if they know nothing about what the people need?  what do we even need a government for?

Some good facts you pointed out, but how does one get into politics if they know nothing about what the people need?  what do we even need a government for?

Because to succeed in politics, is the exact opposite of what it takes to succeed as a entrepreneur.   A full 180-degree difference.

To succeed in politics, you have to have leverage against someone else (whether real or fiction), and ability to lie right in the face of the folks (..you can keep your plan...PERIOD!) and accept bribes, coercion and nepitisim.  Plus you need millions of dollars to run for anything these days, so you have to grease everybody up so they give you money (EDIT:  i.e big business...which only employes 3-4% of the US population...small entrepreneurs employ upwards of 97% of the working population...so don't be fooled by "we're going after big business with these policies"...they are going after the small guy, not the big guy) .

Unfortunately politics has nothing to do with achievement and the ability to run and manage anything successfully and meeting/exceeding expectations.  It's all about image and fallacy for most in politics.  Generally the lowest of the low in society.

I'm not saying we don't need Government, we do.  A Government that protects the freedom of the individual and his/hers rights...not the collective.  A very limited and weak government...not the monolithic leviathan we all have to deal with these days.  That is what we use to have, not anymore.

Not so popular opinion inbound: I don't see the big problem. They want to make the roads better? Great! I'd support this idea (and maybe that is because I live in a highly taxed country and guess what? It works).

Invenio, Investigatio, Imperium

With all the money they take in,2-3 trillion a year...now they want more for roads!  Bull!!  You have to understand, there is NEVER enough money for these leeches...never enough.  That is why we have a $17 trillion deficit.  We could all give the government all our money and wealth and it still would not be enough for these morons.

To your point, I already, and you, and everyone here who drives, pays a road tax in the form of a gas tax.  That revenue stream is supposed to be used 100% for roads.  It's obviously not.  It's been stolen and reallocated.

So no; more money will not fix anything.  Waking up to what is happening is the only thing that will fix these problems.  And a lot of accountability.

How about if congress screws up the budget, they should be personally liable for their actions.  I bet that would fix things.

EDIT:  would you trust a full-blown crack head $200 to pay your telephone bill.  I think not.  Why would you give these crack-heads more of your hard earned money willingly, assuming they will pay bills with it.  Why would anybody willingly let them track you and everywhere you drive?  That is what it takes to collect a "driving tax".  Not only do they want your money, they want to track every movement you make in your car.  That ain't what I call freedom.

Same goes for here, whatever they do, my opinion, I don't care what kind of crap they think they put up with to deserve being overly paid, the average citizen puts up with enough stress, me personally, everytime i get into my tow truck & help a stranded motorist i risk not coming home, every single day & i don't get paid danger pay, just my opinion though.

Blame Obama.

Obama didnt start the war , he's trying to end it , much harder...

yeah 12.5 t was in 2012 probaly 2014 is 17 T...   in Canada we have 1.1 and we think its too much!

Every Canadian need to give 37000$ to government to make deficit to 0$

in america...  17 Trillion divised by 310million peoples = 55000$ each american to make deficit 0$

the problem is growing up every year , probably why american want end war correctly and didnt help syria and ukraine...

2001 vs. 2011

Cause of change between CBO's 2001 projection of a $5.6 trillion surplus between 2002–2012 and the $6.1 trillion debt increase that actually occurred.

In June 2012, CBO summarized the cause of change between its January 2001 estimate of a $5.6 trillion cumulative surplus between 2002 and 2011 and the actual $6.1 trillion cumulative deficit that occurred, an unfavorable "turnaround" or debt increase of $11.7 trillion. Tax cuts and slower-than-expected growth reduced revenues by $6.1 trillion and spending was $5.6 trillion higher. Of this total, the CBO attributes 72% to legislated tax cuts and spending increases and 27% to economic and technical factors. Of the latter, 56% occurred from 2009 to 2011.[52][53]

The difference between the projected and actual debt in 2011 can be largely attributed to:

  • $3.5 trillion – Economic changes (including lower than expected tax revenues and higher safety net spending due to recession)
  • $1.6 trillion – Bush Tax Cuts (EGTRRA and JGTRRA), primarily tax cuts but also some smaller spending increases
  • $1.5 trillion – Increased non-defense discretionary spending
  • $1.4 trillion – Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq
  • $1.4 trillion – Incremental interest due to higher debt balances
  • $0.9 trillion – Obama stimulus and tax cuts (ARRA and Tax Act of 2010)[53]

The U.S. budget situation has deteriorated significantly since 2001, when the CBO forecast average annual surpluses of approximately $850 billion from 2009–2012. The average deficit forecast in each of those years as of June 2009 was approximately $1,215 billion. The New York Times analyzed this roughly $2 trillion "swing", separating the causes into four major categories along with their share:

  • Recessions or the business cycle (37%);
  • Policies enacted by President Bush (33%);
  • Policies enacted by President Bush and supported or extended by President Obama (20%); and
  • New policies from President Obama (10%).

Several other articles and experts explained the causes of change in the debt position
