New PC Build

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm going to be building a new computer in the next couple of weeks. I have a decent part list already but any suggestion or advice is welcomed! My budget is $1400. Here is a part list I have made: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/davelaric/saved/3CV6   Any changes? I already have the OS, keyboard and mouse so those aren't needed.

Thanks

Dave

Damn that looks pretty solid! That thing is going to fly.

My only suggestions to you would be to buy a Blue-Ray player (Or however it's spelled) instead of a DVD Drive, since a BluRay is backwards compatible.

Additionally, this is a bit of a personal preference getting in the way, but maybe a 24'' monitor instead.

I have three suggestions, but they are just things I am personally picky about. I would go with a modular power supply, because there is not a ton of extra cables to deal with. Like this. Also instead of the GTX 770, I would go with the R9 280X. Like this one. The R9 280x is a great card for the price, and it has 3GB of VRAM. Do you really need and i7? Because there is absolutely not point in having an i7 if you are not going to use hyperthreading,so if you don't  need hyperthreading get this and save money for a better GPU. But those are just some things i'm picky about, otherwise nice build!

I actually have a setup that is basically the same, the only difference is that I have 16 gigs of corsair ram, the Asus Z87a motherboard, and a AMD hd 7850. I would Highly recommend your setup. The cooler is awesome (my PC has never gone above 42 degrees Celsius), and the motherboard allows for very easy overclocking. I have no regrets going with the 4770K.

I might be hyoer threading a before I was trying to decide if I should go for the I7-4770K or the I5-4670K. I'm also getting a NVIDIA because of shadow play. Also I'm wondering if I should go for a EVO 212 or liquid.

Ill look into getting a BluRay player instead and I really don't have a use for a 24 inch monitor as I don't really care about size. Thanks!

The EVO 212 is an excellent cooler for overclocking to some degree. You will be able to get to about 4.2-4.3 ghz before the temps get way out of hand. But if you want to keep the temperature down I would go with water cooling. With water cooling you will be able to get even higher most likely. Check out this article :http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ivy-bridge-overclocking-core-i7-3770k,3198.html Anyways as I stated above going with a modular power supply and an open, well ventilated case can help keep temperatures down also.

I wouldn't bother getting a BluRay drive if I were you since you can't watch BluRays on a PC, you can only create them to be watched in a bluray player elsewhere.

Okay, wont be do any BluRay stuff so guess I'll just stick with my DVD drive then. Thanks!

I was thinking about getting the Corsair H100i Liquid cooling for 70 bucks more. I replaced my PSU with the one you recommended too.

I really like that PSU, it is the one I have now. Cable management was no issue because of the sleeving on the wires. I would recommend the H100i also, I have heard good things about.
