THE LIBERTONIAN MUSEUM, Algonquin  — The Libertonian Museum of Liberty City has beefed up security measures with the Algonquin Metropolitan Police at the tourist attraction that attracts more than a million visitors a year.

The museum has installed walk-through metal detectors in the lobby and has posted signs out front near the parking lot telling visitors that water bottles, backpacks and weapons are not allowed inside.

Museum spokesman Rob Bardua said the museum determined the metal detectors could be used more consistently, but the museum has not received any recent threat that prompted the move. “Security checks are always ongoing and random,” Bardua said. “The AMPD procedures are always reviewed on a regular basis. The operations officer for AMP believes this will be another good measure for us to take.” AMP conducts daily patrols at the museum, he said in an email.

“The metal detectors, which were installed last month in the lobby, are used previously to screen guests for events such as presidential visits,” he said.  “The metal detectors are another way to protect museum visitors, staff and volunteers, as well as our collection from a potential incident,” he said in an email.

ALGONQUIN DETENTION CENTER, Algonquin  — Around 16:40 hrs, a light blue SUV crashed through the processing gate at the ADC in a attempt to intercept Vice Lords shot-caller Jeffery Dames.  Dames was being turned over to Liberty State Police by AMPD for transport to Liberty County Jail.  Sentenced to 25 years by the courts, the attempt to free him was no doubt set in motion after the ruling came down by the judge.  It is still unclear how the assailants knew about the transport times as that information is classified.

Two State Police Officers and three Metro Police Officers were injured in the ensuing gun fight.  All four men in the SUV were heavily armed and all died from wounds sustained in the gunfight with police.  Dames was injured but removed from the scene by AMPD officers.  AMPD Spokesperson has said that for high level intimates such as Dames, additional security will be required to transport him.  This will more than likely mean a SWAT controlled turn-over and transport.

THE CARTER HOUSING PROJECTS - Dukes-Brooker, Algonquin – The victims in the city's latest homicides had murder complicity charges against them both dropped in December of last year, according to court documents gathered.  The body of 24-year-old Steve Bledsoe Jr. was found shot numerous times just after 11 p.m. inside of his apartment along with a known accomplice, 22-year old Oscar Wilfork.

According to court records, Bledsoe was the suspected getaway driver in the Nov. 28, 2009 shooting death of Joseph McNealy on S. 19th St.   Charges were dropped against Bledsoe when co-defendant Marcus Crook took a plea agreement following a hung jury on a manslaughter charge.  A metro police spokesman declined to comment if that case could be related to the shooting death of Bledsoe but did say that homicide detectives are familiar with the history and it will be looked into.

Bledsoe has a lengthy criminal history consisting otherwise of drug-related and trespassing charges. He was due in court later this month on charges of probation violation.  An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. Police have not made any arrests nor released any suspect information. They are trying to get tips from neighbors who saw or heard anything.  Anyone with information concerning the shootings is asked to call the anonymous tip line at (888) 574-AMPD.

CLUCKIN BELL - Downtown, Liberty City – A 28-year-old man was gunned down Friday afternoon in the dinning area of a downtown Cluckin Bell. The man was identified by an uncle as Shawn "Buck" Cheneau.

Cheneau was shot multiple times to the body around 3:30 p.m.  Algonquin Metro police said. He was transported to Interim Liberty City Public Hospital by EMS but died shortly after arriving.

Witnesses told police they saw a gold or tan four door sedan with dark tinted windows speed away from the scene. Two men, one wearing a black beanie cap and the other wearing a blue jacket, were inside, police said.

His wife of two years sobbed hysterically at the scene, screaming, "I want to see him. I want to see him." Cheneau, who worked in landscaping and liked to play basketball, was the latest homicide victim in a family that has experienced several in recent years, said the uncle, Roy Cheneau, 46. Among them, he noted, were two of the victims' cousins: Brandon Butler, whose girlfriend was accused of killing him in December 2011; and another cousin, Ricky Cheneau, whose September 2012 murder was included in a sprawling indictment of the 3-N-G gang, based in Dukes-Brooker.

Anyone with information concerning the shooting is asked to call the anonymous tip line at (888) 574-AMPD.

VARSITY HEIGHTS, Algonquin — Dozens of people connected to The Lost motorcycle gang were arrested during early-morning raids Wednesday that district attorney prosecutors said were aimed at dismantling a criminal organization where violence was part of doing business.

An indictment unsealed Wednesday shows that 42 people — from alleged gang members to a local bar owner — are facing a wide-range of charges that include drug trafficking, extortion, money laundering, witness tampering and illegal gambling. The charges, which come after a more than year-long investigation, were filed in U.S. District Court in Liberty City.

"All kinds of people from different walks of life are involved in criminal activity," said Assistant District Attorney Brad Toning, the lead prosecutor in the case.

County Sheriff, Algonquin Metro and State Police task forces raided The Lost MC Liberty City Chapter at the 1200 block of West Main Street in Varsity Heights, early Wednesday, December 23, 2013. More than 80 state and local law enforcement officers raided MC sites that are tied to The Lost motorcycle gang and rounded up members to face charges that remained sealed.

Only one of the suspects remained at large Wednesday following the raids in areas around the city that involved more than 80 officers from state and local agencies. The raids netted about 35 guns including several assault rifles, about $14,000 in cash and more than a dozen motorcycles, Toning said.

Investigators said the gang's criminal operations included using violence to collect on debts, insurance fraud schemes and running illegal gambling. The 70-page indictment also alleges the gang trafficked drugs, including cocaine and prescription painkillers.

Joshua N. Bowser, the first suspect named in the indictment and among those facing the most charges, was described by authorities as the gang's enforcer.

Another suspect is a hospital employee accused of being involved in trafficking prescription drugs, investigators said. The suspect still at large, 28-year-old Terrell Adams, is being sought on drug charges and isn't a member of The Lost, prosecutors said.

Investigators used a variety of ways to infiltrate the gang, including wiretaps, drug buys and an undercover agent who posed as an extortion victim, Toning said.

"Basically, the District Attorney and other law enforcement agencies threw the kitchen sink at these folks," he said.

WEST ALGONQUIN — Recruits, staff, and local law-enforcement celebrated the grand opening of the Liberty County Law Enforcement Academy's $57 million school building Saturday.

The Mayor of Liberty City, who has made Law Enforcement support a cornerstone of his leadership platform, told cadets that they are "part of this grand experiment that we have underway in Liberty City, where we will give our law enforcement officers every tool possible to combat the rising crime in the city, 'we're not doing the kind of work that we need to do and we need to change course.'"

The academy, which provides all cadets, Special Operations and general law enforcement officers, with an education rooted in law studies studies and training, opened in 2010. The academy had previously been housed in portable modular classrooms and moved to a temporary two-story, $4 million building near Francis International Airport..

The new 105,000-square-foot building, located just office the bridge entering Algonquin, is the newest addition to the law enforcement community this year. The academy is one of three training facilities completed this year which will be owned and operated by the Liberty County law Enforcement community.

"This is our investment in the future of Liberty City and its' law enforcement officers, that is saying that we want Liberty City to be as successful as it ever was, in fact we want it to be more successful in preventing and persecuting crime," The Mayor said.

The new building features shooting range and equipment, specialized housing for cadets, and other resources.

NORTH ALGONQUIN, LIBERTY CITY. — Eight people were arrested today in connection with gang-related assaults that occurred over the past two months in a north Algonquin neighborhood, a police sergeant said.

Several officers from the Algonquin Metro Police Department and Liberty County Sheriff's Office executed nine search warrants this morning in the areas of Topez and Wardite Street, Sgt. Baker said.

Three Algonquin juveniles, ages 14, 15 and 17, and 18-year-old Edward Acer, of Bohan, were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and gang enhancements. Last night, at about 6 p.m., four more wanted suspects turned themselves in at the Algonquin Metro Police Department.

Neighbors in the area of West Topez Street had complained to police about gun fights, alcohol and drug use, and intimidation of residents by M.O.B street gang members who live in the area.

In incidents that occurred between Dec. 3 and Jan. 5, a weapon was brandished at a 13-year-old walking home from a store; gunfire hit a car; two people were assaulted with a broken bottle; and four people were assaulted by 20 alleged M.O.B gang members who believed the victims were rivals because they were wearing red, police said.

One of the eight suspects arrested today -- the 17-year-old -- was already in custody, having been arrested on Dec. 28 after showing up at a hospital with a cut on his hand. The bottle attack had occurred earlier that day, and the victims identified the teen as being involved in the assault, police said.

The Libert County Law Enforcement Drug and Gangs task force investigated the incidents and identified 12 suspects in the cases. Several are still outstanding.

Anyone with information on the violence is asked to call Liberty County Drug and Gangs Task Force.

What are all the cars you use, they look good. Also what's the set up, because right now I'm using the LC Police, Liberty State Police and Liberty County/Sheriff Police.
