LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - Authorities Tuesday served multiple drug warrants around the Southland and arrested 16 people, the Los Angeles Police Department reported. Investigators also seized about $1.8 million in currency, along with "large amounts of cocaine,'' said LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera. Among the arrestees was Derrick Turner, 48, who was described by police as a "skid row drug kingpin,'' the Los Angeles Times reported. Turner was arrested at his suburban home in Cerritos during the operation, which targeted downtown Los Angeles's infamous drug market, The Times reported. Authorities said the goal was to break up what officials described as a dominant ring supplying cocaine and heroin on the streets of downtown Los Angeles at a time when the homeless population is rising along with concerns about crime. Among the evidence seized in the raids was $600,000 in one dollar bills. "The fact it was one dollar bills tells you a lot about his business on skid row," LAPD Capt. Andrew Neiman told The Times. The sweep marks the latest in years of crackdowns targeting the drug bazaar that has long operated on the streets of skid row, preying on a homeless community, where addiction is a major problem. Over the weekend, 15 people were sickened during a string of overdoses linked to sales of tainted spice, or synthetic marijuana.

LAKE EVERETT, CA. (AP) — In one of the presidential campaign year's more grisly spectacles, protesters in Lake Everett opposing Donald Trump's candidacy threw plastic bottles at him during his speech on the steps of Lake Everett City Hall and other items at police officers, injuring several, and toppled trash cans and barricades. Shots were fire at the rally at which point, law enforcement at the behest of Secret Service, got Mr. Trump out of the city and to F.I.A. as quickly as possible. Police responded by firing pepper spray and smoke grenades into the crowd outside the Lake Everett City Hall. During the rally, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee was interrupted repeatedly by protesters, who shouted, held up banners and resisted removal by security officers. The banners included the messages "Trump is Fascist" and "We've heard enough." Trump lashed back at protesters, tweeting Wednesday: "The protesters in Lake Everett were thugs who were flying the Mexican flag. The rally on the dirty steps of the Lake Everett City Hall was big and beautiful, but outside, criminals!" Trump's supporters responded with chants of "Build that wall!" Trump later tweeted "Great rally in Lake Everett, amazing crowd!" This was until shots fired force Trump and his security to get him to his plane waiting at F.I.A. Once there, armed groups of protesters began attacking Mr. Trumps's convoy, organizing a heavily armed response from Lake Everett PD, Everett County Constable, the F.B.I. and Secret Service. After the gunfighter concluded, Trump was rushed onto his plane and instructed by the Mayor of Lake Everett not to come back again unless he was willing to pay for the overtime for the officers. The F.B.I. is still investigating the security breach at the airport which allowed some 40+ armed men to get into the secured area with guns and get into a massive shootout with police.

Liberty City, North Algonquin -- Authorities have charged 22-year-old Steven Torres with murder after he allegedly repeatedly stabbed 69-year-old Edward Orozco because he thought he was blowing him a kiss. "I have nobody," Alba Orozco said, still in shock. Her 69 year old husband ever is gone after a depraved and random attack on Monday in north section of Algonquin at the subway rail station. He had taken Alba to the doctor's office and left her to find the times for the next arriving train. She was sitting in the waiting room, when she heard his screams. "When I was sitting there, I hear someone outside saying 'Help! Help! Help me!'" she said. Police say the retired trasit mechanic had found himself face to face with 22 year old Steven Torres, who told investigators he thought the older man had blown him a kiss and was coming on to him. So he attacked. "I think he was trying to say get away from me. Leave me alone," Thomas Oniszko said. Oniszko watched as the victim tried to fend off Torres, who cops say took out a knife and stabbed Orozco again and again. "He had to have been on something, that guy. Obviously, he had to have been on something the way he was stabbing him. Walk off, go back stab him again, go back - do that 3 or 4 times," he said. Torres ran off, but AMPD caught him six blocks away. They say he also confessed to stabbing another man on the Lower East Side od Dukes earlier in the day, claiming that victim, too had been flirting with him. AMPD had initially classified this as a homophobic hate crime, but prosecutors decided not to prosecute it as a bias attack. He was ordered held without bail and is due back in court on March 1, 2014. He faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted. None of that is any consolation to Alba Orozco, who has lost her husband of 16 years, her traveling companion and her best friend. "My husband is alone with me. We were all the time together. Everywhere. Now, I am alone," she said.

Members from the Liberty County Sheriff Office recently converged on the Liberty County Law Enforcement Academy to train in facing down the most dangerous criminals on the water ways of Liberty City. The half-an-hour to hour long training is an intensive experience that does prove too intense for some law enforcement every time. The LCLE Academy’s, Joint Special Ops “Frogman” Course or Maritime Enforcement Officer course has gained a reputation, drawing officers from all departments to attempt it. "It is one of the better training courses I‘ve ran through since playing GTA IV," Sergeant Baker said. "It is a good, solid program." Those who are willing to face down the grueling experience -- which requires communication with your squad mates and working while under intense fire from multiple targets, just to name a few challenges -- come away ready to face the most deadly criminals on the open waters of Liberty City. "They respond to everything from high speed boat pursuits, to beach assaults to assist JSO’s -- the most dangerous calls," Baker said. Sheriff Deputy RSG, Sheriff Sergeant N3rd and Sheriff Gunner were among those who endured to the end. Senior Instructor Baker praised their stamina and bravery in a recent meeting with the Chief of Police. "The program is so valuable because of the tactics it teaches them, the safety it teaches them," Baker said. "With all the stress, we really want the MEO’s to see what his limits are and learn that he can still perform when exhausted. It may be a situation when they are called upon to save someone's life, or take someone's life." The training includes swimming, beach assaults, breaching doors, room clearing, insertion from the water and other parts. The experience is not called Frogman Training for nothing, you will learn to love the water. "They are in this job because they love this stuff." The Maritime Enforcement Officers work collaboratively to respond to any dire emergency in the Liberty City and are used at the discretion of the Scene Commander. "It is a group of officers from almost every department in the county," Baker said. "Everyone sends officers if they need a call-out. We are truly lucky to have such a highly recognized course here, contributing to the public safety of the Liberty City community."

NORTH ALGONQUIN, LIBERTY CITY. — Eight people were arrested today in connection with gang-related assaults that occurred over the past two months in a north Algonquin neighborhood, a police sergeant said. Several officers from the Algonquin Metro Police Department and Liberty County Sheriff's Office executed nine search warrants this morning in the areas of Topez and Wardite Street, Sgt. Baker said. Three Algonquin juveniles, ages 14, 15 and 17, and 18-year-old Edward Acer, of Bohan, were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and gang enhancements. Last night, at about 6 p.m., four more wanted suspects turned themselves in at the Algonquin Metro Police Department. Neighbors in the area of West Topez Street had complained to police about gun fights, alcohol and drug use, and intimidation of residents by M.O.B street gang members who live in the area. In incidents that occurred between Dec. 3 and Jan. 5, a weapon was brandished at a 13-year-old walking home from a store; gunfire hit a car; two people were assaulted with a broken bottle; and four people were assaulted by 20 alleged M.O.B gang members who believed the victims were rivals because they were wearing red, police said. One of the eight suspects arrested today -- the 17-year-old -- was already in custody, having been arrested on Dec. 28 after showing up at a hospital with a cut on his hand. The bottle attack had occurred earlier that day, and the victims identified the teen as being involved in the assault, police said. The Libert County Law Enforcement Drug and Gangs task force investigated the incidents and identified 12 suspects in the cases. Several are still outstanding. VARSITY HEIGHTS, Algonquin — Dozens of people connected to The Lost motorcycle gang were arrested during early-morning raids Wednesday that district attorney prosecutors said were aimed at dismantling a criminal organization where violence was part of doing business. An indictment unsealed Wednesday shows that 42 people — from alleged gang members to a local bar owner — are facing a wide-range of charges that include drug trafficking, extortion, money laundering, witness tampering and illegal gambling. The charges, which come after a more than year-long investigation, were filed in U.S. District Court in Liberty City. "All kinds of people from different walks of life are involved in criminal activity," said Assistant District Attorney Brad Toning, the lead prosecutor in the case. County Sheriff, Algonquin Metro and State Police task forces raided The Lost MC Liberty City Chapter at the 1200 block of West Main Street in Varsity Heights, early Wednesday, December 23, 2013. More than 80 state and local law enforcement officers raided MC sites that are tied to The Lost motorcycle gang and rounded up members to face charges that remained sealed. Only one of the suspects remained at large Wednesday following the raids in areas around the city that involved more than 80 officers from state and local agencies. The raids netted about 35 guns including several assault rifles, about $14,000 in cash and more than a dozen motorcycles, Toning said. Investigators said the gang's criminal operations included using violence to collect on debts, insurance fraud schemes and running illegal gambling. The 70-page indictment also alleges the gang trafficked drugs, including cocaine and prescription painkillers. Joshua N. Bowser, the first suspect named in the indictment and among those facing the most charges, was described by authorities as the gang's enforcer. Another suspect is a hospital employee accused of being involved in trafficking prescription drugs, investigators said. The suspect still at large, 28-year-old Terrell Adams, is being sought on drug charges and isn't a member of The Lost, prosecutors said. Investigators used a variety of ways to infiltrate the gang, including wiretaps, drug buys and an undercover agent who posed as an extortion victim, Toning said. "Basically, the District Attorney and other law enforcement agencies threw the kitchen sink at these folks," he said.

Two State Police Officers and three Metro Police Officers were injured in the ensuing gun fight. All four men in the SUV were heavily armed and all died from wounds sustained in the gunfight with police. Dames was injured but removed from the scene by AMPD officers. THE LIBERTONIAN MUSEUM, Algonquin — The Libertonian Museum of Liberty City has beefed up security measures with the Algonquin Metropolitan Police at the tourist attraction that attracts more than a million visitors a year. The museum has installed walk-through metal detectors in the lobby and has posted signs out front near the parking lot telling visitors that water bottles, backpacks and weapons are not allowed inside. Museum spokesman Rob Bardua said the museum determined the metal detectors could be used more consistently, but the museum has not received any recent threat that prompted the move. “Security checks are always ongoing and random,” Bardua said. “The AMPD procedures are always reviewed on a regular basis. The operations officer for AMP believes this will be another good measure for us to take.” AMP conducts daily patrols at the museum, he said in an email. “The metal detectors, which were installed last month in the lobby, are used previously to screen guests for events such as presidential visits,” he said. “The metal detectors are another way to protect museum visitors, staff and volunteers, as well as our collection from a potential incident,” he said in an email.
