Storm watch!

Featured Replies

Everyone and anyone who is directly or indirectly affected by the Hurricane*Judas Simone, post in here! Sweden is scheduled to be hit at 4 PM ( CET - Central European Time). SMHI (Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute) have issued a class 2 warning which means that flying debris is a likely hazard, power outages, damages to property and local transportation gets delayed or cancelled.

Be safe out there!

I will update the OP whenever it's needed. Feel free to add information, I'll add it below when I see it!

EDIT 1, 10:45 AM CET: Class 2 warning has been upgraded to Class 3 warning. Generally means that sh*t is about to hit the fan and the news should be follow at all times. Even higher risk of flying debris, transportation via car is not recommended.

EDIT 2, 11:35 AM CET: Man killed in Watford, England. Also a girl has been killed. Both by falling trees.

EDIT 3, 12:24 AM CET: Department of Transportation in Sweden have decided to close the outer bridges in Göteborg, Sweden in the afternoon.

EDIT 4, 2:18 PM CET: Going to take the bus, and later tram, home from work. Will update the OP when I get home.

EDIT 5, 6:56 PM CET: Got home safely, no sign of a storm. Not even rain. Eerily calm outside.

EDIT 6, 8:43 PM CET: Winds are now increasing in the city (Göteborg).

EDIT 7, 10:08 AM CET Next day: Storm is over. Wasn't that big of a storm. Thanks for tuning in to storm watch though!

http://www.smhi.se/vadret/vadret-i-sverige/Varningar. It's in Swedish, but look at the map and you may gain some understanding. Red = Bad. I'm in the middle of the red.

*= Actual wording can be: Heavy Storm, European windstorm, Storm (Swedish word is "Orkan").

Class 3 Warning definition:

Highly extreme weather is expected which may pose great danger to the public and  large disruption of important community functions (power, etc). The public is encouraged to heed new information on the Internet, radio or television.

  • As usual the UK has over-reacted. So far all I've had to avoid was a tiny fallen tree whilst driving into town. Other than that, its pretty bog-standard British weather

I heard nothing about Sweden and about a hurricane? Its here VERY windy (The Netherlands, Friesland, Leeuwarden). The wind is now around 90km/h, today in the afternoon it will go about 100 - 140km/h.

Be safe!

(but serious? A hurricane?)

Well, this house lost the sat dish about an hour ago. Glad no one was standing below that when it happened.

"Fun..."

No better weather in Germany. At least the West.

Yes we have heard much about it, I'm from Denmark, Copenhagen and we will also be hit badly

Be safe! Be indoors as much as possible, basements are nice if the winds increase more.

Updates: Updated the OP.

I live in a class 1 (yellow) zone, so it's not that severe. I live on the east-coast just below Stockholm, it's mostly the areas on the west coast of Sweden that are severly affected.

lovkal

Here in Denmark, we have record high readings of up to 200km/h.. People are injured, trees and rooftops flying everywhere, it´s pretty insane!

Storm is over, Göteborg wasn't hit that hard. It was mostly the southern parts of Sweden that got hit. Thanks for tuning in to storm watch though! :)
