2 police officers, 1 sheriff's deputy shot

Recommended Posts

This happened in my local community and I thought I'd share it with you. I really hope all these men of the law enforcement live to see tomorrow.

I have so much admiration for members of the Police Forces around the world. They put their lives on the line sometimes to protect us and get no recognition what so ever. We take them for granted. They work in the background to protect us from the very people who want to harm others and those who have no respect for human life. The persons who were found guilty of the most disgraceful crimes are locked away because of them. The men and women in the various police forces deserve the utmost respect, not being spit on, ridiculed, or killed. It makes me so angry that people are so disrespecful to these amazing people. I know that this will never stop, but I do hope that the level of violent crime lowers and this becomes rare.

I hope to, one day, join my local police force and do the best job in the world. I want to make sure that the streets in my area are safe and sound. One day, I will do my best to protect the people of my area from violent beings even if that means I am harmed. Let this topic be a place of thanks, a place of respect but most importantly, a place of remembrance. I can't imagine what the families of those involved are going through right now, their family member leaving for work in the morning and not returning home, this is something I cannot comprehend, it is disgraceful. I hope that we as a community respect the lives of the officers and sheriff's deputy and there will be no arguments in this topic about anything, if there is, it is shameful and disgusting.

May we, as a community, remember the lives of those killed in the line of duty.

May we ,as a community, celebrate the lives of those killed in the line of duty.

May we ,as a community, respect the lives of those killed in the line of duty.

May we, as a community, pull together and wish the APD officers a speedy recovery and may we hope the Sheriff's Deputy pulls through.

Well stated sir! +1 for that!

UPDATE 2: The APD officers are fine. Sheriff's Deputy is currently in surgery. She is not expected to make it as she has lost a lot of blood.

this is very well stated. I could not have said that better myself. My dad is a cop and when he tells me the stories about how one of his buddies got killed in the line of duty, I want to find the killer and strangle him to death, or when he tells me he stopped some guy was gunna give him a ticket and the dude decided to fight. the person could have just gotten a ticket and not a trip to jail!

More information has just come about. Some rather infuriating information, in my opinion.

The suspect had asked a by-stander to call the police, so they did. The by-stander had no notion of what was to come.

The officers arrived to assist whom ever called for help, obviously. The suspect then opened fire on these two officers hitting them both. A total of fifteen rounds were fired by this man, and none fired by the police. The suspect stole the patrol car and lead them on a high speed chase through downtown.

This makes it even worse, that fact that that suspect had planned to harm an Officer but also that he got others involved. The by-stander did the right thing, if someone tells you to phone and they sound in a panic then you phone, they did not know what was to come. When someone plans an attack on an officer, it shows that they are hated by some people and that confuses me, they are doing their jobs. It is like going into Morrisons (a large supermarket) and spitting on a shelf stacker for stacking shelves.

It sickens me the length that some people go to to harm others.

That's shocking here in Scotland we have not had a police officer murderd since the 1990's I believe. Yet Glasgow is the knife crime capital of Europe...don't get it.

Glasgow isn't as bad as people make it out to be, yeah where I live there have been fatalities, knife crime (in my opinion) is far more dangerous than gun crime, probably just because I live in Glasgow!

Mate I'm from fife and If it's any consolation everyone from the ages 12 to 18 carry knifes around here except from me and a select few :-) this shooting kind of reminds me of the one in Manchester a few years ago. He called the police and shot them at his doorstep then threw a grenade. Very strange perhaps a copy cat except from the he fact he nicked the polis car.

My area is starting to see more and more bb guns or air rifles, not sure what you call them

Luckily the officers didn't die, but this should be a wake up call to all departments in the US. They need to do more training with there weapons, a few months ago we had a shoot out and the officers sot 28 times, and hit the suspect 2 times. I know its not a video game but still either shoot if you have the shot or don't shoot because you could miss and hit someone else.

They've actually done studies on this. The brain actually works differently in ultra-high stress situations such as a firefight. Combine massive adrenaline running through your system, with extreme tunnel vision (sometimes, people simply don't notice anything except the suspect's gun; an officer whose mind can't process their torso can't hit it), and the need for instant action, and you get bad shooting.

It can be changed, but it takes a talented firearms instructor, an officer truly wanting to learn a valuable skill, and constant repetitive training afterwards. A majority of police departments will only qualify with firearms 4x a year, and most of that is done standing still in as perfect of a stance as possible at a fixed distance, while knowing that the gun is about to be fired. Additionally, most cops do not shoot outside of their qualifications.

One of the needs for strong training is that when fecal matter hits the fan, the mind stops working and it becomes muscle memory. One example where this was apparent was the Newhall Massacre in California. At the time, it was standard at the range to pick up brass after firing in order to keep it clean and to resell. After one of the slain officers fired all 6 shots from his revolver, he stopped to pick up his brass instead of reloading due to muscle memory.

The ex Arizona DPS officer I've referred to a few times worked with 2 FBI agents to develop a training program that focuses on possible scenarios (imperfect stance, moving target, simulating stress) as much as possible. As he puts it, a police officer involved in a shooting that plays out like most training might as well have won the lottery. Since his training has been implemented, 11 of the 13 cops he has trained that had to pull their triggers on a suspect have not missed.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

That's a good point, cp702.

I've been shot at before, and the feeling is incredible. Your only priority is to stay alive, and you loose all regard for anyone around you. Even looking at the suspect is difficult. When you're running for cover, your glycogen glands open up beyond belief and you are able to run, and run, and run. There is really no stopping when you're fired upon. In video games you may jump a bit, or get a little frightened by the gun shots, but in reality, when your adrenaline is beating through you so quickly you can't even hear the shots consciously, you just know they're flying towards you. I don't think it's really fair to blame officers for firing and missing, being able to hit anything when your in that situation is more difficult than anything else you'll ever encounter.

That's because of the lack of training, with most people that can be changed but the Police departments don't have enough training to get to that point.
