Well I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking about this, I can guarantee you. Every time I come to this one side, something always reaches my mind, and that is what is going to happen to LCPDFR. Recently, a major change has struck us, packed with negative and positive effects. And this 'new family member' if you will, is going to cause a huge change to our community very soon. Ever since this new family member was announced, one thing has always been on our mind: what is the fate of this massive empire Jay and Sam have created all from scratch? I'm sure you all know where I'm going with this.

Ever since the release of GTA V it's all been on our minds. This one thing. It's certainly been on my mind and I've been thinking "Will there be any use of any of the mods we've got now in our GTA IV community?". R* has developed a brand new game that has so many features added to the programming of the police and its subsections, that it makes me wonder whether any of the mods we've got now in our present community will be carried over to GTA V. These are some examples:

The emergency lighting has improved in GTA V. A LOT. The whole point behind ELS and that other one (yes, I call it that other one - by that Featherstone guy) was to enhance the experience of the emergency lighting in GTA IV and add an element of realism to the emergency lighting right? Well it seems Rockstar seem to have taken this into account and they have made the default emergency lighting in GTA V a lot like what ELS does with the ELS enabled lightbars - they have really added an element of realism and an enhanced the experience of using the emergency lighting, right? So with that in mind, is there really any point of carrying ELS over to GTA V? Does Lt.Caine really want to update his amazing mod again when and if there's a PC version of GTA V? I'd really love to get in touch with Lt.Caine, and the LCPDFR staff to get their opinions and future plans.

Another example, our little peripherals we've got. For example, spotlight mod. With GTA V, all the standard police cars have spotlights, and fully functional ones that really light up the road very well actually. Now all we need is a control panel to move the light around. So what will happen to the existing spotlight mod? Will it just turn into some sort of script that allows you to use some keys on the keyboard to move around the light? Here's another example of a peripheral that is no longer needed - strobes mod. Now although this was made for people who didn't want ELS nor ELS enabled cars or the invincibility thing when the lights are on, I still used it briefly. Even with ELS enabled vehicles, because it was pretty cool and it was another wig-wag pattern for me before the release of ELS 7 where you can now change the wig-wag pattern. Anyway, back on topic, the police vehicles in GTA V have headlight and taillight wig-wags with some really nice graphics too. So strobes mod will have zero use now as well. There's another nice mod in the trash can.

And another example again, vehicle modelling. Although it will still be around, there will be a whole new way of doing it, and there will probably be another software now, or even if there isn't, we'd probably have to use Zmod 3 now.

There are just so many complications that we have to think about now, or this amazing community that has been created could just crumble to the ground and go into the history books. It's really not a very pleasant thought.

I really want to know what you guys think will happen and Jay (and Sam) what do you think will happen to this massive empire you've made? Do you guys also think that GTA V and all this new stuff coming out will decide the fate for GTA IV police modding? I really hope this community will go on, because I think it's too young to die.

You know, back when everyone was modding San Andreas and we had the ELM mod back in 2006/2007, before GTA IV was out, you could have probably said the same thing.   GTA IV's emergency lights were an improvement from the ones in SA.  GTA IV had better mechanics, graphics, driving, etc.  Heck, GTA IV even had multiplayer.   So, surely the assumption would be that SA-MP would die, ELM would never be needed, neither would weapon mods, neither would graphic enhancements, neither would ENB series.  Oh, and one of the main things people used to rave about was how awesome the police ped models had improved in GTA IV.  They had decent looking equipment belts now with batons and radios.

The thing is though, as these games evolve so to do the mods that come out for them.  San Andreas Multiplayer (SA-MP) is actually to this day, still somewhat more popular than LCPDFR is.  They have over 30,000 players on right now, and just last year they were pushing record highs too.   The same goes for most other things too, we still have weapon mods, we still have ped mods, we still have script mods.

Granted, everything in GTA V is a big step forward (perhaps excluding the vehicle physics), but that doesn't necessarily mean that mods won't be popular for it.  Just like we were able to use GTA IV's resources and assets to make great mods, we'll (hopefully) be able to do the same with GTA V.  Does GTA V offer better police lights?  Absolutely.   Does this offer us better police lights for modding with?  Probably.

Nice post, and some excellent points being made. Although on a massively downscaled game (and completely different community to this) I know Mojang (developers of a popular sandbox game, Minecraft) have been incorporating things which were originally seen in mods made by the community, effectively "ripping off" the community mod makers. The way they cope is by expanding the core features to make their mod stand out above the very badly done version the developers did.

(PLEASE NOTE: I have never played GTA V, nor have I watched ANY user content videos of it on YouTube, I'm saving it all as a surprise for when I have the money to buy it. Therefore everything below is speculation)

Ok so my point? Well hopefully the LCPDFR team will take these huge changes made by Rockstar as a challenge to beat them.

Yes ok ELS is likely to be pretty much redundant now given what you say about how lighting has changed in GTA V Maybe he can adjust the default to give us nicer control over it? Think ELS control panel for a no longer constantly refreshing car state (no more funky doors)

In other words ELS plus the improved lighting could equal the best ELS we've ever seen.

In terms of other mods a few smaller ones will go bust, sadly. Unless they can thrive off what has been taken from them and make it better than the new default, only time will tell.

Car models? nobody will give up with these, there are too many talented artists out there. And yes, you are artists, texture makers and modellers. GTA V might have nicer, better cars which are more obvious to the eye as a car we know in real life. but Rockstar have always been known for breaking the potential for scandal by removing subtle features of their cars. Why? Licensing. God knows how much it would cost them to get rights to put a car brand in the game.

This is where our modellers come into it. They don't have any licensing to worry about, so we will always get our branded, better car versions from them.

LCPDFR, the big one. again I have no idea how Rockstar have done the policing, I don't even know how it all works. But LCPDFr is big. Hopefully we'll see an entirely new approach to the mod in GTA V, something less reliant on hotkeys and more integral and part of the system or maybe something more realistic? Who knows.

Those are my opinions, and speculation.

One thing can be garuanteed from my perspective though, "if" GTA V never comes to PC....GTA IV will always have some disk space reserved.

Those are some good points made there. Although as LukeD was saying, some mods will be made redundant, but the same has happened with SA on the switch to IV. And it's very reassuring to know that this probably will go on. I'm glad!

Thanks! I wrote it a first time, my internet had a spasm attack and then I had to write it again :P

ELS being redundant is like a 50/50 chance. I have no idea whether they are still rolling out updates for ELM (if anyone could help me on that, that would be great).

Well, I think it's for sure strobes mod (and other really small ones like that) will not be able to thrive off what has been taken from them, because strobes mod literally did one thing - made the headlights and taillights and the four-ways flash simultaneously flash, pretty much nobody liked the four-way flashers (they would always stay on when you turned the siren on) and in GTA V the headlights and taillights flash in a wig-wag pattern, so I can pretty much tell unless the developer does something really smart, it'll be gone.

I agree with you 100% on car models. What I was saying in the original post was that it would probably take a lot of time to get used to modelling for GTA V. I took up GTA IV modelling not too long ago (still practicing before I release an amazing model publicly) and I won't leave GTA IV modelling, but I might do GTA V modelling a bit more when there are mods out for GTA V like the ones in IV.

Well said. I won't delete GTA IV from my PC either, and even if I do, I'll leave some space for it.
