I couldn't read what you said too much because it's difficult to read when you don't know how to properly space out paragraphs, but as I live near the area I am aware that they thought he said fucking coon. It was later determined he said "fucking punks", which is exactly what he said. I somehow doubt that you are an officer of the law though, because you should know that if you ask someone to tell you about an event that happened, every 6 months for 5 years (just as an example), especially a traumatizing event, that they will recall something a bit different every time you ask. Memories change.

They also did determine how he was able to shoot him with the use of the dummy.

When Trayvon approached Zimmerman, he asked what his problem was. He replied he had no problem - Trayvon at this point should have said something like "okay cool" and headed home, or better yet had not even approached Zimmerman. I know Zimmerman shouldn't have followed him, but when you see someone matching Trayvon's description (not skin colour, if you're confused by what I mean) in my neighborhood, you go check it out.

By the way I've noticed a few people in this topic remind me of Mike Tyson

Maybe it's because I proudly exercise my concealed carry permit, or maybe it's because of my interest in law enforcement, but people need to calm down for a second and acknowledge some basic facts abo

  • BULLSHIT!! That MOTHERFUCKER should have gotten his ASS locked up! I bet you that BITCH is going to get killed soon!!!

  • THANK YOU!! Thats my point. I'm so FUCKING pissed right now!

Well Mr. Landonw, first off my spacing has nothing to do with my ability to articulate myself and my spacebar was sticking, and second off how dare you. I've been in this profession for twenty five years and don't really care if you believe me or not. thirdly for a tramatic situation like that i could remember word for word and i'm sorry if you can't. Of course they used a dummy to determine it. Because he wouldn't have been able to reach it unless he was on top or Treyvon was getting off. I believe Rachel because even a year later she can still tell word for word what she and Treyvon said, not Zimmerman. And as brutal as her words were they were the truth. So i don't believe a word he said. So in conclusion do your homework alittle more and i hope my spacing is better for you.....A**hole

You better preach it son!!!! speak your opinion!!!

...A**hole

That was completely unnecessary.

OK, people. First, please PLEASE stop saying "Agreed". We have an upvote button, you don't need to make a whole post to say "agreed". It's cluttering the thread.

Second, please use actual capitalization and punctuation. Please use paragraphs. It makes things easier to read. Seriously, long posts without paragraph breaks are actually painful to read. Presumably you want people to read what you say, so take the bit of extra effort (it isn't hard) to write in proper English, with spacing, complete sentences, capitalization, etc.

Third, cut the personal attacks. In general, stay on-topic. A reply to a post should be about the ideas expresses, not the person expressing them. From this point on, instigating and personal attacks will be met with warnings.

Fourth, do not reply to this post. Stay on topic; this thread is not about proper posting etiquette, even though this post is.

This will explain a lot of where you're confused. The media got the story wrong in a lot of places so I can understand why you're confused about it.

Here is the call to help aid you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Trayvon_Martin_Shooting_Call1.ogg

At 2:23 he says under his breath "Fucking punks". At no point in this call does he call him a coon or whatever you stated.

Now if you'll also listen to this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Trayvon_Martin_Shooting_Call3.ogg

This was unable to be proven, so this is just my opinion, but listening to both I believe it sounds like George Zimmerman is the one yelling for help before he shoots Trayvon Martin.

I also re-read what you said earlier, and what you're saying just isn't adding up. You said he'd be on his back - he was. You said his arms were under him - they weren't.

I also find it funny that you said I should "do my homework" when I clearly have.

Everyone here needs to calm the fuck down and stop the abusive behavior.

The next time I see anyone here insulting another member, the threads getting locked.

Due to the graphic nature of this post, reader discretion is advised.

Ok listen, my apologies for my derrogatory statement i made earlier to you  but i wasn't referring to what the media said but if you look at the  trial

right here. The first citizen at the scene and officer. stated that when they arrived on scene treyvon was indeed face down with his hands under him. The picture you showed me is the second picture they took after they turned him over and tried to revive him. If you look at the testimony of the citizen and the officers. This should clear it up for you alittle. Now as far with the screaming if you listen to zimmermen he stating that treyvon had his hands over his nose and mouth. So how can scream loudly and clearly. It's in the closing arguments, here's when they also tell you again about how it was impossible for zimmerman to reach his firearm and the lies he kept telling.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FyOuQTKj3E, and the rebuttal
and this is rachel jeantel's testimony. no matter how much the defense tried to get her to lie she never changed her story

As you can see, his arms are not under him, this is the first picture which was rather difficult to find. At best his hands are under him. Also Rachel's story would not have changed because she didn't experience anything extremely traumatizing.

I can picture the scene myself, and if I was being pinned in the way the defense showed, I would be able to get my weapon pointed to shoot in the same area that George Zimmerman did.

I also must ask - as an officer of the law, do you live to protect and serve the law, or your own common sense and desires? Evidence will always prevail over "common sense" because evidence is factual.

But did you hear the citizen and the officer's testimony saying the hands are under the body. And as you can see in the picture treyvon's arms are not spread out like zimmerman claimed he did. And it is tramatizing to know your friend was murdered and you were the last person to speak to them. But yes evidence always prevails over common since. Sometimes when i'm at a call i have to use my common since and better judgement in certain situations when there's no evidence.

I personally think that he is guilty. I mean if you look at the physical attributes of both parties, Zimmerman is clearly a bigger person.

Now I know that doesn't mean much however if what everybody is saying is true (again correct me if I'm steering from the facts here) but he was on top of Martin. That in itself tells me that if you are on top of somebody with a weapon and the person that you are on top of doesn't have a weapon that kind of tells me that something went seriously wrong and personally think that Zimmerman should do time for this. IMO

I remember this from the very start, and got into an argument with my coworker over it.  I told him to jump off the bandwagon and let him (Zimmerman) have his day in court.  You can't be like the rest of dumb Americans and try a person just on the information that the biased media releases.  Maybe in other countries that's how it works but here in America we have a system and everyone, regardless of what they look like, are "Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law".  The prosecution went after Zimmerman with everything they had and they just didn't have the evidence for a conviction of 2nd degree murder or really anything for that matter.  "Child abuse"?? "Felony Murder"??  Really??  Now we're just getting desperate.

I don't think we have any law experts in here, so I have to side with Alan Dershowitz (Harvard Law Professor) who stated plainly this was a classic case of self defense.  In fact he said there wasn't even enough for a case!!  There were a lot of details never completely figured out and furthermore he stated that Zimmerman really can't civil violate anyone's civil rights.  That's really something along the lines of state or government.  He also stated that if anyone should be investigated it should be Special Prosecutor Corey and her conduct throughout this case.  It's turned into a DOJ witch hunt and I think everyone sees the political strings involved here.

In the end, getting out of that vehicle that fateful night was a mistake that Zimmerman will live with the rest of his life.  Dealing with taking someone's life can always be difficult and the way this one has played out I think only amplifiy's that.   His actions were never criminal, both individuals had a role in the way those final moments spiraled out of control and ultimately lead to the tragedic loss of life.

I'll start by saying I don't have any idea what happened, and that I'm relatively certain both Zimmerman and Martin made bad decisions (but "bad decision" != "criminal"). I looked at Florida laws, and there are provisions that say that you can't normally claim self-defense if you start a fight, but if you are in fear for your life AND make every attempt to retreat, then you *are* allowed to claim it. The fact that this wasn't in the jury instructions implies that either the prosecution utterly failed to claim that Zimmerman initiated force or threat of force, or that they utterly failed to claim that Zimmerman didn't retreat or wasn't in fear for his life.

Given that, the relevant question is: Did the prosecution prove, beyond any reasonable doubt, that Zimmerman wasn't acting in self-defense when he shot Martin? The prosecution can't just try to poke holes in the defense and introduce doubt - they have to conclusively disprove that it was self-defense. I was actually confused on this point, and thought self-defense was an affirmative defense that shifts burden to the defendant; I was wrong. Self-defense, in every state but Ohio, just requires the defense to make a reasonable claim (which they did here), and then the prosecution has to disprove it beyond a reasonable doubt. It's a very very high bar for the prosecution, and one that a jury of 6 who heard the entire case unanimously found that they failed to meet.

Even if Zimmerman was guilty, he still should not go to prison unless the state can prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. Period, end of story. Why? Because the state having the power to punish people on anything less than proof beyond reasonable doubt is far more dangerous than any harm caused by letting a guilty person go free. Public opinion that someone is guilty doesn't replace the obligation to prove it with actual evidence.
