New to the community with a few newbie questions

Hi, all. Great community and mod. I have the game installed and working fine, however I have experienced a few issues.

I'm using OpenIV and added the Massachusetts State Police Ford Explorer. I clicked on 'Edit Mode' and added the 2 files, then rebuilt the iso image. My directory is not in read-only mode. When I am at the car selection, only the default vehicles show.

Also, I have the 'policing script' installed. How do I bring up that massive menu that allows me to modify time of day, car damage, teleport, etc.? I thought it was the policing script, but could be wrong.

Looking forward to your response. Thanks for the assistance.

Welcome to the forums!

For the OpenIV issue, you need to replace the two original files rather than add them,  For example, if you want to replace police.wft and police.wtd, right click police.wft in OpeniV and select "replace" and then navigate to the car files you downloaded.  Then do the same for police.wtd.  Also, rebuilding the archive isn't required and sometimes causes problems (from my experience at least).

For the big menu, you will need this mod here:  http://www.gta4-mods.com/script/simple-trainer-version-65-f2115

Thanks for the information! That worked and I'm able to see the vehicle in the game now. Oddly enough, the commands for ELS v7.0-R130506 don't seem to work very well for me. Most of the commands either don't do anything or they make a sound, but nothing changes. I can see a shadow rotating on both sides, but no visible light being displayed from the actual vehicle. Other weird things happen, too. For example, when I press Alt + I, which is default for, "Browse SECL patterns backwards," a radio/phone falls from the sky.

I also can't initiate a car stop. I've tried Alt + G, Alt, and G, which I saw from the 'Policing Script' instructions. I've tried various commands using ELS as well from those default commands. Any idea why:

1. I can't initiate a car stop.

2. Most of the ELS commands don't seem to be working.

Appreciate the help! Some talented folks spending a lot of time to make things for us users! Thanks again.

Alt-I is also the key bind to take out a radio in LCPDFR. You should change the keys for ELS by opening up ELS.ini with Notepad (or something similar) and changing the key reference number next to each key binding in the Key Bindings section. The reference numbers for each key can be found in the user guide that comes with ELS. If you set keys that do not interfere with any other mods then all of the ELS keys will work perfect.

If you mean initiating a traffic stop (while in a police vehicle), you have to use shift. The traffic stop is handled through LCPDFR. Alt-G with Braveheart's Policing Script is used to stop vehicles while on foot for traffic control purposes.

Also, welcome!

If you're having issues with ELS V7, I highly recommend rolling back to V6.

I tried V7 the other day and I honestly didn't get along with it, its too complicated now although it is some of Lt.Caine's best work.

Processor: Intel i5-6600 @ 3.30GHz

GPU: MSI ARMOR GeForce GTX 1080 OC

Ram: 16GB Skylake

To cover the issues you are having with things spawning out of the air, you will have to disable the keybindings in the Simple Native Trainer.  To do this, navigate to your main GTA folder (where you installed Simple Native Trainer) and then look for trainer.ini (or trainertbogt.ini / trainertlad.ini if you have episodes from liberty city installed).  Right click on the .ini file and open with your choice of text editor (I recommend Notepad ++ for this but standard Notepad works fine too).  Then, search for:

KeybindingsDisabled=0

and set it equal to 1.  This will fix the conflicting key issues.  Note that the trainer files might not say .ini, if so, just make sure the file icon has a gear on it.

I too agree that V6 is much simpler, but if you manage to understand V7 it's quite good. It's shockingly stable, doesn't affect performance as much as V6 and allows you to tweak many, many more options.

EDIT: Ah, great. I restored my vehicles.img file and got the game working again. :) So far, so good, so please disregard the below!

Thanks all for the help. I was able to get most of the lights working with ELS v7, though the lights themselves don't generally look as good as they do in the trailers / screen shots. Also, shift works, too. I'm able to make traffic stops, etc. now while in the cruiser.

I downloaded the Mass State Police CVPI and using OpenIV in edit mode, replaced the two police files. I then opened the game back up and as soon as the game loads and I'm in Niko's apartment, it crashes and says, "GTA IV FATAL ERROR: Invalid resource detected - Please re-install the game."

I'm assuming it is related to the vehicles file, but I tried swapping the two police car files with others I downloaded and the same thing. I even tried deleting the two of them so it wasn't loading it at all. I know I can re-install the game, but it takes like 45 minutes to do so, so I'd rather not if it's going to just happen again when I add more cars. I've attached my debugging information below:
