Taser vs Pepper spray

Featured Replies

Hi ive been hearing a lot of talk about how people love pepper spray better than Tasers. Me personally think Tasers are way better than pepper spray because you dont always have to be close to tase somebody. What do you think?

I'd prefer using tasers, however they have been known to seriously injure and in some cases kill people.

One of my friends who happens to be a police officer invited me to come with him on some taser demonstration days as a volunteer, and boy oh boy. Getting hit by that thing will knock anybody down. You feel like your entire body is just stiff, and theres a numbness through your back, and when you hit the ground and the current stops coming through your body you feel this wave of relief, followed by some muscle pain.

However, pepper spray is a bitch too - mainly because after getting hit by that shit you'll need to spend quite a while trying to wash it out, and you may be forced to wait until you get to somewhere you can wash out. With tasers, the prongs are made to be removed quickly, although I wouldn't know since I was hooked up directly to the wires.

I hope you mean pepper spray

For me you can't like more then the other because they are used in completely different cases if you use one in the wrong case, you could cause harm to fellow officers, or similar.. For example... (I could go into deeper detail but I will dumb it done for now)

Take this test i'm about to type (similar to the test we had in my explorer post)

Case one: Man is running away from you, and he has his back towards you do you...

1.) Taser the man

2.) Pepper spray

3.) Shoot the man in the back

Taser is the right answer.

Because the mans back is away from you, so how are you going to
hit him in the eyes? Man is not posing any threat to you or others, so there is no need to shoot him.

arg...

Case 2: Your trying to get a man out of a vehicle, he is refusing and you see he is trying to turn his car on to flee from you do you.... (assuming his window is down but his door is locked and you can't get it unlocked)

1.) Taser the man

2.) Pepper spray the man

3.) Let him go with a warning because you are to damn lazy (yes that was a option on the test I took)

Pepper spray is right because...

If you taser the man and he still takes off the pongs that can off the

taser will be in him, and when he takes off he could yank the taser out of your hand or the pongs could come ripping out of him and causing him bodily harm.

There not knowing for causing harm or killing people...  The only way a taser will kill you if you have a very very very rare heart condition and even then there has to be different conditions for it to kill you. Basically if you get killed by a taser its a freak accident... (assuming proper force was used)

Its actually not that uncommon for tasers to kill and one that many Canadians know is the following:

Granted, it does seem that exxtreme force was used.

during my 5 years in the army, i was exposed to alot of different less than lethal force types. The easiest and in most cases, most effective, is a taser gun. the x26 is the one that we used. Using a taser is the safest route to take because you do not have to let a subject get inside your personal space to use it. and pepper is bad, becuase 1 they have to be within 10 feet, and 2, if its windy out, then you are getting a face full of pepper spray too

i would rather be tazered than pepper sprayed, pepper spray burns for sometimes hours on end and makes u gag and cough and spit everywhere and snot just runs down ur nose. Tazer on the oher hand does well i guesss hurt but it only last around 5-8 seconods

I don't know what you have been readying but taser deaths are uncommon, they have done million of tests and found the only way a taser can kill you if you have a heart problem a really rare heart problem and also the weather conditions need to be right. (that's if reasonable force was used)

That man was older and he got tased 5 times, those officers were dumb asses if you can subdue a man that isn't on crack after tasering him once or maybe twice at the most then you shouldn't be cops.. 5 times could kill you if you head just a reguler heart defect, but I think this guy had a pace maker, so it probably stop the pace maker...

Tasers can also kill if you get injured while falling. There's a reason they are called "less-lethal", not "non-lethal".

If I had to pick one to protect myself with, I'd pick a taser since it's usually a guaranteed take down if both barbs hit. Some people are immune to pepper spray or will still fight with it anyway. A taser is meant to immobilize someone to stop resistance to arrest and it does just that. You could argue that someone on crack could be resistant to tasing, which is true, but pepper spray wouldn't fair any better on that same guy. Ideally having multiple tools (gun, taser, pepper spray, baton, hands & feet) to do the job is best.
