Lowest settings...WHY?

Featured Replies

So ive really been enjoying GTA IV mods. However not that enjoyable on lowest settings and a bad resolution. I went out ask for help b/c i couldn't run without frame skipping. I was told to put in a commandline.

So been playing with that without skipping frames but i dont like it, the thing is i have a pretty decent computer.

System type: 64 bit Windows 7
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7450 (Memory: 1675 MB)
Any help would be appreciated, but please dont comment if you dont know what your talking about :)

  • Yup, looks like your card is not that great.  Same make as mine, not the same model.   That's where your problem lies.   Good luck!   DrDetroit

  • It depends of your computer case, having enough space to put the graphic card (it's a dual slot), and your motherboard, but if your motherboard handles a 7450 it should be ok for the 7850. If you are

You have a pretty decent rig, you should be running smooth as silk at medium/high settings and you shouldn't need command lines at all.  Do you disable your anti-virus before playing?  I get the same thing, intermittently, when I don't disable my AVG.  Another place to start; look at the background programs that are running.  Also try going into your Catalyst Control Center and turn down Mipmap and VSync, lower those gaming settings and see how that effects performance, lower game resolution to 1600.

Good luck!

Thanks Dr (if I may call you that), I thought I had a pretty good rig I will be giving gta permissions in norton security when I get back home. I thought that using the command line for my rig wasn't needed I hope this works. Thanks for the reply!

UPDATE: Try it on medium works great but its still slower then my commandline anybody help? Run great just game goes fast then slow and repeats fps is f up anybody help?

Try using the search function, you may find a solution.  I seen a few other recent posts of folks having the same problem, not sure what their solution was since I never had that problem.

You have a beefier machine than mine and I run about 25-30fps at medium settings with car density at 40.  Did you mess with your Catalyst Control settings for your vid card?  Most of those settings should be set to "Use Application Settings".  Turn down and/or turn off things like SmoothVision, disable CatalystAI and see if that helps.

Also, could be a mod like an ENB or HD textures, if you're using those things.  You can also check the sticky in Support section and lookup how to run on Win8 (assuming you're using Win8).

Good luck!

Did you try lowering or turning off shadows and lowering the water quality setting?  Those will make a huge impact on frames.

do i need to change my cpu processor speed or what? Im kinda stuck...

Go to Preference > select advanced view.

Once you do that, on left hand menu you'll have 9 options to choose from instead of just the two (Pinned and Presets).

Choose Gaming.  Then on the main menu you'll see a bunch of selections described above.

Good luck!

Question..... I know it can be simple, but, just to ask you, do you have the mod called Traffic Light Fix, which prevents the poles from braking? If so, delete it. I've used to have that mod and on a clean install with no other mod, I've tried and it makes the game skips frames.

I do not have that mod but thanks though.

OK :) Sorry I couldn't be any helped, hope you find a fix

Hi, here is a screenshot of my Control Center.

I have a HD5770 so maybe it's normal that we don't have the same items.

But moreover, you have to know that your card is a low profile one, even if it has "a lot" of memory. The HD7450 is an OEM card for office usage. Maybe it's why you don't have the gaming panel ?

Of course it can handle some video games, but on low settings, or medium for some. And as you know GTA IV was poorly ported to PC so it makes it harder.

Your computer is good but the GPU is a bit too low.

About automatic updates, AMD disabled it because it was buggy. So, go here and grab the latest driver for your card. Should be 13.1.

I don't have any other idea right now, just those informations, I'll come back if I have something interesting.

Okay I'll try that, it weird b/c I can play like tf2 on high just fine, how much would it be to buy a card that can run gta? On high

Oh and thanks for all the help guys I do appreciate it.

Don't know where you live, but in France a good graphic card costs around 150-250€, but you can find +400€ GPU as well, of course.

For the AMD GPUs, don't look at the first number (HDXXXX), the three or two last numbers are the most important.

The GB of the card is not the most important factor too, you have to look for a good clock and frequence (don't know if these are the correct terms in english, sorry).

A 1GB or 2GB GPU can beat a 4GB GPU.

You can see my specs and my graphics settings on my profile, my HD5770 runs on high. But I have tweaked my system to run smoothly and I know what to do.

What is your budget ? It should help us (maybe not me as I don't know if GPUs are more expensive in $ or whatever currency in your country).

Personnaly, if I had to upgrade my GPU right now, I think that I would buy a Sapphire HD7870 2GB GDDR5, which costs 200€ here. But I haven't thought about the question so it's just a rapid idea.

Sorry for my rusty english, I'm tired ^^ Hope that I helped you a bit.

EDIT : high graphics are nice, but it's better to play smooth, so don't push your PC too much. And as I said GTA IV is technically a crap on PC :/

EDIT2 : oops I forget to advice you to see if your case and your motherboard can handle the card that you'll buy. A lot of people buy a GPU and can't put it in their computer lol.
