How do I add modifications?

Featured Replies

I'm new to LCPDFR, and.. I'm just wondering, how do I add modifications? I've watched tens of thousands of video's and I still can't figure it out! Could you help me?

Mods are easy to install once you have LCPDF up and running.  Most of the mods have two files that you simply copy/past to your scripts folder, located in your main GTAIV or EFLC directory.  Others you simply copy to your main game directory (not scripts folder).

Cars are just as easy to mod, but you need a 3rd party installer called SparkIV or OpenIV (SparkIV is much easier to use).  Open the vehicle file up and import the new car files, rebuild, save and your done.

It's pretty easy to do, especially if you have been PC gaming for awhile and familiar with modding games in general.  Even if you're not, it's really easy to do.

For modifications a golden rule is .asi folders go in to the main root folder, .net.dll mods go in to the script folder, always read the read-me that is included with almost all modifications for installation instructions.

For Car mods, I know a lot of people use OpenIV, but I prefer SparkIV for the ability to edit sound files.

Considering you're new to GTA, don't follow others advice on installing cars their way right now. I suggest trying to find a automatic installer, you just select your folder the car is in and bam, it's done. However, for custom peds, sounds, textures, etc you'll need to use Spark or OpenIV (Spark is generally simpler IMO) .

I wouldn't recommend using some auto-installer, actually. Installing cars with OpenIV is really really easy (it's just drag and drop; I'm honestly not sure why *anyone* finds SparkIV easier to use), and it also lets you do much more with your mods (as it also lets you install texture mods).

No, you don't get my point. YOU may like OpenIV because it lets you do more, but this guy just wants a few scripts and cars (That's what i think, correct me if i'm wrong OP) Also, SparkIV uses a simple 'Import' and save. OpenIV has to be in edit mode to be able to do anything, you have to add them in, then delete the original files (That's how it goes on my system/that's the way i know of)

You don't need to delete original files. It's literally drag and drop. Open, select file, click "Edit mode", drag in the files you want. It even auto-saves. And you don't need to close before running GTA.
