It's easy to hate on DayZ, however I also know people who bought ARMA2 for DayZ, who later discovered the tactical shooter aspect of the game.

Arma3 would also have a substantially smaller budget had it not been for DayZ.

I do think it's good for both the tactical shooter players and the DayZ players that DayZ will get a stand-alone game, the mod has a lot of bugs as far as what I've heard.

I also think that DayZ helped build the massive ARMA2 community, the popularity of the mod also increased the awareness of ARMA2.

I do not think that DayZ brought in anything that wouldn't have happened had ARMA2 generated the same level of interest as DayZ did.

I bought it for DayZ and found that ARMA itself is way more fun.

Don't worry Harper, I'm sure someone will be willing to give you a free Alpha Lite code next week :p. Too bad it isn't the full thing...

Okay, so I spent some quality time with the game, here's my verdict;

Positives

  • The underwater feature is fucking epic. I love swimming under the boat, sabotaging it then picking the occupants off from under the water
  • The driving is much better / easier
  • The graphics are stunning
  • The sounds finally sound realistic (at least the weapons do)
  • The AI is much smarter and actually can run & gun now
  • You can steal the uniform of an enemy and just walk into their base without them knowing

Negatives

  • I fucking suck. I'm so accustomed to the AI in ArmA 2, time for some intense training
  • The tires make an awful generic screech when you stop a vehicle on any surface although I suspect this'll be changed when it heads to the beta / full release

For those changing from ARMA2 to ARMA3, G IS NOT THE INVENTORY, it throws a grenade, you will kill many, many teammates with this change.

Too late i killed way to many teammates already :unsure:

Thought I should update my post from eariler;

You cannot steal the uniforms of enemies anymore, it was removed after it was showcased as the developers realised it broke the geneva convention of wearing the uniforms of your enemies

Lol, I knew it was forbbiden by the Geneva Convention! I was about mentioning it the other day but then I started doubting  :tongue: I am not sure if the Geneva Convention prohibites to use enemies' uniforms, but it does in fact forbid using neutral armies uniforms.

Well, gotta say the game looks good, although I am not into the half-futuristic theme. If they release Cold War Rearmed mod for Arma 3 then I might consider about getting it. Something that, in my opinion, they haven't improved much are the explosion effects. And something that has impressed me, the animation of changing of weapon, it's truly well done:)

I think they did it just right, the vehicles aren't too futuristic, they look different but they do look somewhat real.

I am looking for a mod that converts the vehicles from ARMA2, hopefully they'll add a few more to the mix while they're at it.
