AMD or NVIDIA

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Just one more question which of the following video cards would be best with GTA IV

AMD Radeon™ HD 6470M (64-bit) 1GB Graphic

or

NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M (128 bit) 1GB

The laptop is going to have 6GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory and a 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor 2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz

Thanks in advance for your recommendations...again.

Personally, every NVIDIA card I've used has been rock solid. Thus, I'm a little biased. However, you generally want a card with a higher bit interface. With a 128 bit on the NVIDIA, I would choose that.

On a side note, I'm a little skeptical about GTA IV on a laptop, but a second gen i5 may be able to handle it, even if it is a mobile platform. Don't expect killer frame rates with high detail though..... GTA IV is not meant for a laptop at all.

Been building computers for years, Intel + NVIDIA has always been my go-to combo.

That's what I've always heard: that NVIDIA cards are rock solid. I don't expect to have great frame rates though, I unfortunately need a laptop for college that I can also use to stem my video game addiction, XBOX is staying at home, and I've fallen in love with LCPDFR, because my plan is to be an MP in the US Army after college. So I'm trying to find the best possible solution without killing my wallet.

I'd say that this would be your best bet, then. Best of luck to you.

I must agree with the people here, nVidia is clearly my favourite, for me it doesn't have to be an Intel CPU with it though, I'm fine with the AMD CPU's. I just don't like their graphics cards.

im no expert but i have an nvidia in mine and have never had an issue. my brother is an amd fan and i dont know why since he caught his computer on fire last year playing battlefield 2 because his graphics card fried.

Well, In my opinion both are good but it really depends on how much you pay the more you pay the better you get. It really depends on what you are looking for if you ask me i'd go with nVidia.

Thanks for all the input guys,

I'm going to go with the NVIDIA card. Hopefully I'll be up and running in a few weeks, my parents are going to throw in the 300 bucks I still need. Gotta love having a July birthday.
