CriminalActs mostly adds random car thieves. Problem is they really like patrol cars and will try to steal your car very often. Did you try Braveheart's script? Also there will be new world events and callouts available in next versions of PoliceHelper mod.

Oh, yeah, I value my patrol cars, lol. I tried braveheats script a while back, and it kinda confused me. lol. I may have to try it again. But if there are gonna be new callouts in the next PoliceHelper mod then I'm definantley gonna get that. I've been trying to download it now actully, but my desktop is really pissing me off and crashing w/the BSOD. Here's hoping it works long enough for me to download your policehelper and try it out!

EDIT: I downloaded the towing script, policehelper, and the new police station, wow! They are awesome! Keep 'em rollin!!

I dont know about some of you but i cant seem to get bored. Theres just so much that goes on in the city on a recurring basis that I always find myself doing things, or having different situations go down. Heck sometimes ill take a break stop at the burger joint "and in realife get me something to eat at the same time" and some times i even see npcs fight each other and I have to get involved. Would be nice if you could arrest two people at once and be able to put them in the back of the cruiser (future additon to mod :) )

But yeah theres always something to do.

I could never do foot patrol lol id get so bored

I just spent a while doing it in my last session and it was a good change of pace.

I started off just walking around the sidewalk in Hove Beach, ticketed some people for jaywalking, participated in some foot pursuit world events, then sometimes other peds swear at you so I used the PoliceHelper to check their ID, check for outstanding warrants etc, I caught one guy breaking into a car (Criminal Acts script) and another 2 drunk and disorderly (drunkpeds) then I spawned a sniffer dog (Abraxas k9 script) and just walked with it through groups of people. The dog has a passive search mode when it's on foot and it has a random chance of smelling drugs on peds which happened a few times when I was walking around Firefly projects. Then at one point a ped pickpocketed me and then pulled a gun out (criminal acts) so I set the dog on him and he surrendered, then arrested him and called for transport. It worked out well actually.

I've always liked to roleplay in video games, so when I'm playing as a patrol officer, I like to take it slowly, and attempt to act realistically. I almost never force callouts or world events, and usually try to do things that a real cop might do during a normal day, such as:

  • parking in an alley or parking lot while waiting for calls to come in from dispatch
  • conducting safety/welfare checks on houses
  • stopping for food periodically
  • frequent checks on known trouble/high crime spots
  • realistic Code 3 response runs (slowing down/checking intersections before I cross them, only passing on the left unless traffic is totally at a standstill, driving at a safe speed, etc)

Something else that I've found helps beat boredom is role playing as specialized units.  Here's a list of some of the different things I like to do:

  • SWAT: Patrol with a four man team in either unmarked vehicles or armored vehicles, or do high visibility counter-terror/crime suppression foot patrols in busy areas (star junction, downtown Algonquin, downtown Broker, the airport). While playing as SWAT, I usually decline the lower risk calls, and only respond to shots fired, suicidal suspects or shootouts.
  • Street Crimes Unit: Patrol in plainclothes in unmarked vehicles, looking out for officers needing assistance, road rage fights between drivers/peds, hit and runs, etc. As SCU, I'll usually only respond to drug deal or shootout calls.
  • Gang/Vice Unit: Similar to Street Crimes, but focusing on gang or vice related crimes. This means doing prostitution stings at night, checking out the strip clubs for any crimes, stopping "parolee" gang members or pimps and frisking them for contraband, conducting vehicle stops on gang vehicles, etc.
  • Bicycle Patrol: (Using the BMX bike mod (http://www.gtagaming.com/downloads/gta-iv/vehicle-mods/3491) to replace the faggio and the West Palm Beach Ped uniform with the yellow bike shirt ()) When doing this, I'll usually stick to Star Junction or downtown Algonquin, and just play it similarly to a normal foot or vehicle patrol. However, I normally only take calls that are really close to my current location.

It's also fun to role play as an officer in a specialist police department: (Note: some of these can be pretty slow paced and require some patience.)

  • LTA (Transit) Police: Foot patrols inside the subway/tram stations, or vehicle patrols from station to station or below the elevated rail sections. SWAT security checks of the subway tunnels, checking for intruders, hobos, or other suspicious activity. (or Ratman!)
  • Port/Harbor Police: Vehicle patrol of beaches and shoreline areas (Broker Navy Yard, Port Tudor, pretty much any docks or piers), or ship patrol of the bay. Sometimes I'll even do Visit, Board, Search and Seizure operations on some of the docked ships that have interiors.
  • Park Police: Foot patrols on the paths of the various parks in Liberty City, or vehicle patrols from park to park.
  • Housing Police: Foot patrols of the housing projects, doing vertical patrols inside the high rise buildings, or vehicle patrols around the projects.
  • Hospital Police: Vehicle patrol between hospitals, checking the lobbies for problems and the rooms for unauthorized people.
  • Airport Police: Foot patrol around the terminal, vehicle patrol around the runway, looking for unauthorized people or cars.

Love it!  I do the same, but not quite as many detail patrols as yours (now it will be).  I try not to do too much as far as patrol area for any one "work" day goes (8-12hr shift 5-7 days  a week...when done working at the cop shop, I go home and sleep or start my killin' spree and I do have a game-save slot for every day of the week).  I par it down to "traffic", "foot" or "gang" patrols as well and I keep the patrol area size and tasks smaller and manageable, this allows for more efficient and detailed patrols in high crime areas (using crime map and crime charts that are available).  I don't take every call-out either, just the ones that make sense for the duty I'm performing and location of the call-out.

Great post LandWarrior.  You should do some vids.

Good day,
