2013 Police Interceptor

Featured Replies

NYPD has no choice but to replace their CVPIs eventually. You can't make a car run forever, especially when it's treated like shared patrol cars are treated.

As well as their Impalas; the Impalas seem much more prevalent in the outer boroughs when compared to the abundance of CVPIs in Manhattan.  All cars will eventually be replaced of course; the CVPI stopped production on Sept 15, 2011 and the Impala has been redesigned while GM pushes the Caprice for police duty.

If any car would run forever with the proper maintenance, the Crown Victoria would be one of them.  You'd be hard pressed to kill a member of Ford's panther platform.  Also, saw one up my block the other day; being that it was unoccupied I got to gawk at it for quite some time and snap a few photos including the one below - a beauty for sure, especially up close and in person.

  • Thats why im buying one HWP CVPI asap.

  • i just drove one on the job never had one as a pov but you can get good deals at the brooklyn navy yard auction  although after driving one for so long I don't think I would buy an ex police car unles

That is the replacement for the crown vic, I believe highway is sticking to the Charger and the Department has a few of the new Caprice's (saw a black(bosses car) on the news during Sandy coverage so I guess they are testing that car which may be used by highway either with or instead of the Charger I know they are training on the interceptor already

lol he didn't waste time that should be out really soon

So far I've seen multiple unmarked NYPD Tauruses around, as well as a few Port Authority Caprices.  I have yet to see a 2011+ Charger though.

the NYPD unmarked Taurus 's you have seen have probably mainly been in black (brasses car)I have not seen a 2011+ charger in person but there is one on flicker taken from the most recent shooting at the empire state building it was also a bosses car most like detectives

I would assume so; I've seen three Tauruses recently, two in black and one in a light blue colorscheme not dissimilar to what was offered with the CVPI.  They all are unmarked and relatively new at that.  The Charger is very nice, though its relatively small trunk when compared to the Taurus and Caprice will possibly be its downfall.

And awesome at the actual ownership of a Crown Vic; I hope to get one sometime in the near future.

Hatzolah is using the taurus  also with a full police light setup including blue/red on the deck lights

you have probably just seen the one's with the street appearance package (well actualy the are not interceptors)the actual PI should be out shortly though

That's correct on the Street Appearance Package bit; discreet antennas as well.  Thanks for the recommendation; I've been meaning to check out auctions here as well as around neighboring states [Pennsylvania, Maryland, NJ, etc] to find one - I also have family down south and may have access to nicer LX models there as well.

It's a pretty good car....except it's Utility counterpart. I was hoping my local agency would get the Taurus, but they got the Utility Interceptor instead  :wallbash:

The Crown Vic has served police agencies well, but there's always that time for change.
