Using a Xbox 360 Controller.....Question

Featured Replies

I'm new to the LCPD:FR mod and have only used it once. Just curious if it will work if a game controller is hooked up

to improve the driving?? Are the keyboard commands still all valid in this case??

Yes it will work, but you'll still have to use the keyboard for almost everything. I'd suggest trying to get a feel for how driving on the keyboard and mouse is otherwise you'll be stumbling around your keyboard and controller trying to do different things.

If you at least want to be able to arrest without messing with the keyboard, I posted a method

controlmk u can arrrest and pull over no problem just assign keys

I use a 360 controller myself. I will never go back to keyboard driving. The only thing that kinda sucks is having to let go to the controller to activate lights or sirens or a similar function.

I've been futsing around with a program called JoyToKey, however, to see if I can trick the game into mapping the light switching/other LCPD:FR commands to buttons on the controller... I'll post my findings if they're worth anything.

Try the keyboard if you can stand it. It's away more accurate.

you can use xpadder and map els lights onto the control as well as the pull over key i use rb for j and x for k and the down for pull over

The controller is actually a recent purchase of mine, I used a keyboard up until maybe a month or so ago.

I prefer using the triggers for better throttle/braking control over the keyboard. You can't really 'cruise' with a keyboard, unless you do some sort of tap dance on the key.

Interesting, I'm definitely gonna have to try that. I think you might've just saved me a lot of frustration!

its very nice you can map any keys to any button on the controller...pretty simple to the thing you have to remember is everytime you turn your pc on you have to open xpadder then close again otherwise some of the keys wont work...just added f9 f10 and f11 to the left right up dpad...hell of alot more easier now heh

Theres not really a dance involved, just press they key every now and then, but if that really bothers you, there are mods that can put you on cruise control. During normal traffic though you should be hitting enough traffic lights where it gets to the point that you're not tapping very much at all. And there is no more precise control than a keyboard with a short response distance. It's been proven in shooters, RPGs and driving games alike. That being said, that's just my preference, not necessarily yours.

A low speed rollby is pretty hard on a keyboard though. I struggle to think how a keyboard could be more accurate than a trigger, especially for driving. I find using the controller gives me much smoother gameplay. To each their own I suppose, I know I'm never going back to it. lol

Didn't know Xpadder was payware, so I didn't bother with it. Luckily though, I figured out how to map those controls with the freeware Joy2Key. Gotta say, the difference is day and night. I use L/R on the Dpad for ELS secondaries and primaries, respectively, down for traffic stops (so much better than letting go of the controller to hit shift), and right stick click-in for the arrest button when I'm aiming at a perp. So much more efficient.

xpadder was freeware last i checked works great ;) but yea controller or go home for sure
