Police Incidents

What's the one of the coolest/strangest things you've seen involving the police?

I've only ever seen one incident involving the police since Australia is pretty quiet when it comes to crime.

Okay, so it was about 12AM and I was in bed only to be woken up by shouting outside, I take a look out my window and see this guy running down the middle of the road with no shirt on screaming, he throws his phone at a parked car chipping the window. Suddenly I hear sirens and see a Commodore race round the corner going code 3, they stop and attempt to subdue the guy but he starts fighting with them. He breaks free and makes a run for it but the male officer tackles him while the female officer un-holsters her taser and calls for backup. Now I see 2 more commodores race round the corner also going code 3 to help out. They detain the guy put him in the back of the cruiser where the female officer calls him a "porkchop" for running, no joke. He then kicks out the window of the cruiser and the officers pin him to the seat until a paddy wagon arrives. (A paddy wagon is a pickup truck with a cage in the back http://farm5.staticf...6e88e1f5c_z.jpg)

All this happened directly outside my house in Brisbane, Queensland. I've never seen anything like it so far.

So what's one of the coolest/strangest things you've seen regarding the police? I mean personal experience not in movies/TV shows.

(P.S. I hope a topic like this doesn't already exist, I did a search but didn't find anything)

When I was on holiday in New York.We were in a taxi going to JFK when we passed a row of flats,2 seconds later a fleet of NYPD cruisers and unamrked tahoes stopped beside us and I just managed to see about 8 FBI/NYPD detectives along with about 10 NYPD officers running into the flat with their guns aimed but that was all I saw :(

Maybe not the strangest, but for me the most impressive thing I've seen and I've remember with police involved is a NYPD drill last year, I was in a taxi going through the FDR drive, direction to Battery Park, and suddenly starts passing by the other lane police cars with the lights on, I counted more or less 40 cars. We thought it was something like the shift change. Then, I knew it was a drill. I have a part recorded in video, with the last cars, not uploaded anywhere though.

Two OC Sheriff Cruisers collided(low speed) outside my friends house while we were skating. They were supposed to be doing traffic for a house fire down the street

I've had exposure to all the exciting and "cool" stuff (I worked for the Police) but one of the most impressive sight is when the blue brotherhood escorts my fallen brothers and sisters down the highway of heroes.

Truly amazing to watch as the majority of the officers in the procession and the ones standing on the bridge have taken the time out of their day to pay tribute to the fallen.

A breath taking sight to behold and be apart of.

Hmmm probably not the craziest, but i was sitting out on the deck when i hear screaming and suddenly a truck flies down the street going at least 100KM/H, everyone thought it was a drunk driver, but it turned out that everything in the truck, malfunctioned, meaning, no accelerator, no brakes, no steering, but somehow the truck accelerated to such a speed, in a 50 zone, the truck slammed into a tree at the end of my street, both the driver and passenger walked away from the accident.

Yeah, I hardly ever see a police car going code 3 but I always see Ambulances going code 3 down on the freeway.

Sounds like you guys have seen a lot of stuff, unlike me, I've only ever seen a few car crashes or when my dad got pulled over for going 30KP/H over the speed limit. (Lol)

Five 911 calls I made that I thought were important and the police either didn't show up on time, or they didn't show up when I was watching:

1.) A red Chevy pickup truck with two white male occupants speeding (I matched him temporarily so I could get his plate) about 80 in a 35, swerving in and out of the oncoming lane and nearly colided with a U.S. Mail truck. I called the police and gave them turn by turn directions of where the truck was going until I had to break off to go to work. No response on if they caught him or not.

2.) A two door mid-80's to early-90's sedan with a completely missing front tire driving down my street on bare rims around 1am, showering sparks everywhere and creating a groove in the pavement. It was too dark to see who or how many people were in the car. I gave a description of the vehicle and general direction since I was in my house looking outside the window. No call-back as to whether they caught the person or not

3.) A woman in an older sedan attempted to (and did) enter a road passing two "WRONG WAY" signs. She continued past them and came into oncoming traffic. I called 911 and gave a partial plate and description of the car. No response as to if they caught her or not.

4.) A friend of mine left a suicide note up on AOL Instant Messenger when I was still a teenager saying she was taking all the pills she could find in her house. I discovered it after logging in to see if she was on. I immediately called the police and they sent a state trooper over followed by an ambulance. He broke in the door and found her on the floor unconcious. They ambulance took her away and they gave her the choice of charcoal mix or a stomach pump. She elected for the charcoal mix. The police called me back and weren't allowed to give me too many details since I wasn't a family member, but made me aware that I most likely saved her life by making the call, which at the time my parents told me not to make.

5.) I observed multiple people arguing loudly in a local park (which is closed after dusk) around 9pm or later with two cars stopped, one of which was a Jeep Cherokee with the trunk lid open. I called 911 (mostly because it annoyed me since I could hear it in my house with the window open) and a couple of officers responded. It turned out to be a fight in progress between 8 people that involved baseball bats and crowbars. They were all arrested, and I got a phone call from the Sergeant thanking me.

I've also personally seen a few "neat" incidents bit they weren't as exciting as pursuits.

1.) A traffic stop conducted outside my house on a day off. It was a beat up car with a broken out tail light. The person driving was a "kid" in his late teens or early 20's. After a lot of talking I didn't get to overhear, the officer called in backup, and pulled the kid out of his car. The lead officer and his newly arrived back up searched the entire car. Floorboards, seats, glove box, trunk, underneath the car, etc. They failed to find anything, and then gave him a ticket to let him go. The kid briefly asked for directions, and the officer instructed him how to leave the area.

2.) On the way back from a late night shift at my job, the entrance ramp to the route I normally take on the highway was blocked off by a series of orange barrels. I was forced to take a highway leading south towards Boston. While driving south, I observed a van being completely torn apart by several police officers, multiple cars on scene, spotlighting the van. After passing that area and finding my way back north on a highway that was an offshoot of the one going south, I saw multiple patrol cars from different agencies (local, county and state) all along the way, combing the area for something/someone. One was even in the #4 lane doing about 30, and then flipped a u-turn over the grass median. I never found out what happened that night.

3.) A pretty bad car crash. Some lady ended up totaling her vehicle pretty badly into a light pole after smashing into a guard rail at the beginning of an entrance ramp above a bridge leading to a highway. One officer was on scene and another was arriving as I passed it. Never found out what caused it.

4.) During my first ride along, the officer I was with attempted to stop a white Honda Civic for having expired tags (2 months past). They were reluctant to pull over, and eventually pulled into a gas station. I was watching their movement in the car, and noticed the passenger digging fairly franticly into a purse. I told the officer, and he told me that they were probably looking for I.D. (this was about 30 seconds after the stop). I informed him that the passenger was a male, and asked why he's doing it instead of the female driver. He then promptly grabbed his hat, jumped out of the car and got up to the driver window quickly. lol He came back after giving them a warning, and got into the car, telling me that there was an extremely strong odor of purfume in the car, making him think they sprayed it to hide the odor of drugs, but he decided to let it go.
