How do you make a plugin?

Featured Replies

So, I've been playing LSPDFR for quite a while and I enjoy everything about it. Love the community, love the amount of work that a lot of content creators put into their work, and I love the creativity behind a lot of plugins and vehicle models.

It wasn't until recently that I started using Basic needs by Ashishcw -> https://www.lcpdfr.com/downloads/gta5mods/scripts/21785-basic-needs/ I like the idea behind the mod a hole lot, personally, I feel like with a couple more things added, more bug fixes, and some assets, this plugin could be HUGE.

Then I got to thinking about how I would improve on the plugin if I was the creator of it and found myself thinking of a whole bunch of cool ideas. I looked online for guides on how to make LSPDFR plugins and only wound up finding how to make callouts. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough or maybe google hates me. But I was wondering if anyone had any resources or documentation they could point me to, I'd love to get involved and start making contributions to LSPDFR.

EDIT: I do know about https://docs.ragepluginhook.net/ But I'm talking about things aside from this. Guides, tutorials, tips, etc.

Talking a whole lot of nonsense - since 1999

Since most people develop callouts that's probably also most of the tutorials and code snippets you will find. But it shouldn't be too much of a problem, you can still learn from the callout code whilst creating something else. The best way to get started is to load up the game and mess around with the various RPH functions.

Please do not PM me unless really necessary (knowing you helps). If you think you need my attention in a topic, tag me.

For sure, I'll give it a shot. I come from a basic understanding of LUA, so C# and project oriented programing in general is a pain to wrap my head around.

Based on this I would definitely recommend picking up a few generic C# tutorials. But if you want to dive straight in I would definitely grab the API Example plugin (see the links thread pinned in this forum) and start reading it. Anything you don't understand google, anything which google doesn't give you a reference for just ask.

Creating an LSPDFR plugin to do something other than a callout isn't too difficult at all. But having a basic pursuit callout and tweaking it bits at a time is a great way to quickly learn what everything is doing and how it all runs together.

Definitely check out all of the resources in this forum section if you get stuck. Welcome to the plugin modding scene and best of luck to you 🙂

PS. Never be afraid to ask, some of the best devs here still need to ask questions every now and then.

So I've been doing some minor changes with StopThePed questions (both traffic stops and general ped questioning) using xml editor software. It's fairly simple to do (took only a little research on how to make/write xml) most can be done from copy paste existing question tree/answers then edit it.

So for example I've added a ped question: "Why are you carrying a concealed weapon without the correct licence?"

Possible Answers: "Because i want too" or "Self protection" or "It's mine, I do what i want with it"

I've also added extra citations and a charges using the same procedure in CompuLite (xml editor)

Think you or anyone else interested should give that a go first before looking deeper into creating your own plugin. It's helped me personally understand the basics of the layout needed.
