  1. I had a similar problem with my AMC Matador. The dummies ended up being messed up.
  2. I read this in the paper this morning, and normally I'd be on the side of the cops, but if what the FBI says is true, then I have to say that the behavior of the deputies is inexcusable. Have they forgotten who they have sworn to protect? http://www.latimes.com/local/la-me-sheriff-arrests-20131210,0,451958,full.story#axzz2n5ld55V8
  3. Yes, and then you can add switches like -nomemrestrict to the file. Refer to this guide for more info. Also, if you have the steam copy of the game, you can just click "set launch options" under the game properties and put the switches there.
  4. It looks pretty awesome, but I didn't gather much of what you are supposed to do in the game from the trailer.
  5. How in the world did it occur to him to rip a sprinkler out of the ceiling? Not once have I thought, "Wow, wouldn't it be fun to rip that fire sprinkler from the ceiling!"
  6. The problem is that your computer is running out of video ram to store the world textures and car models in. When your computer tries to load the "third" car into vram, there isn't enough space, which causes it to unload the world textures, but the game will just freeze because it can't spawn the car. Your specs should be sufficient to run the game, but the only way to fix this would be to use a command line, upgrade your computer, or use lower-poly models. Also, you should make a backup of your un-modded GTAIV folder so you don't have to re-install the whole game every time something gets messed up. If you have steam, you can also use the repair installation button in the game options, which only re-downloads the files that you've changed (though it doesn't remove any files that you added, like any asi mods or script mods, you have to remove those yourself). I'd recommend making a backup over the repair installation, as it's easier in the long-run (for example if you just need to replace your vehicles.img)

  8. I agree with you that we should stop milking the Sandy Hook, but not about 9/11. The Sandy Hook shooting amounted to 28 deaths. In no way is 28 deaths a minor event, but compare that with the 3,000 people that died on September 11th, 2001. The attacks on 9/11 spawned two wars, and 9/11 is going to be remembered as the Pearl Harbor of the War on Terror. The events of September 11th hold huge historical significance, while the historical significance of the Sandy Hook shooting is negligible. The impact of Sandy Hook was largely emotional and so was 9/11, albeit on a larger scale. The difference though is that while emotions fade over time, 9/11 greatly affected the following decade (and onward), and we are still feeling the repercussions 12 years later. Eventually 9/11 will lose its emotional value, but like the Alamo, people will remember it because of its historical significance.
  9. You can do what WassiRossi said, or if you want to manually do it, open up visualsettings.dat and mess with the values under #Other emissive lights.
  10. This issue (texture-popping) usually happens when the game runs out of/low on memory. Since you have a laptop, sometimes to save energy the manufacturer will include a switch on the side of the laptop that enables the graphics card. Other times you can individually control what programs use the GPU. Since your GPU and CPU should be able to run the game pretty well, I'd check to make sure that GTAIV is actually using your GPU.
  11. That's a LOT of cars. (on the news they reported 62 cars were involved)
  12. I'm not sure what you mean by "intensity", but I think the only way to make it readable is to make it a higher resolution.
  13. If you are using Chrome, I'd try Firefox. If you are using Firefox, I'd try Chrome.
  14. I don't believe someone has released the pillar mounted outer edge, but there is an upper exterior mount version that traumapak released: http://gtapolicemods.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=2147
  15. This issue is usually caused by a setting that makes vehicles despawn when they are more than a certain distance away. I forget where the setting was, but I believe it was either an ELS setting or an issue with traffic flow. I'd try removing any taxi-bug fixes you have installed (like traffic flow).
  16. Actually they will be doing the last beta test on the 7th of December starting at 8:00 UTC according to the message box that pops up if you try to launch it.
  17. I don't understand how they don't work together. Don't you just combine the extras from the avenger with the other light's extras?
  18. I love Garry's Mod because of the sheer enormity of possibilities. Coupled with a huge modding community, gmod allows you to do pretty much whatever you want. Check out the steam workshop for maps and addons that interest you. Since this forum revolves around role-playing a police officer, I should mention that there are some great role-playing gamemodes if you like role-playing as a cop (or other jobs too). The biggest difference between roleplaying in GTA IV and in gmod is that everybody you interact with is an actual person, not derpy AI. I find that pulling over someone for speeding or responding to a break-in is much more challenging in gmod than GTA IV. One gamemode that I personally like is PERP, which is really robust, but requires you put in a lot of time (on the same server) to get good jobs and decent cars. I play on the hellsgamers PERP server myself, as it is a legit copy of PERP and there are usually a decent amount of people on (especially on weekends). There are also some other neat roleplay gamemodes like DarkRP (which requires less time to get good jobs but can be less serious and less realistic) and countless others.
  19. Maybe I'll see you in game! No, it is still free, the developers are just releasing it on steam (probably to get more publicity and alleviate the need to install the mod manually).

  21. Thanks for the heads-up, good sir! I was lucky enough to snag JC2 for 3 bucks during a sale a while ago. I was already pretty far in the campaign on xbox 360 so I never really played the PC version, but now I'm glad I bought it!

  23. Yeah this is plausible with scripting! Nice idea! The game doesn't really support treads and I'm not sure if you could make the arm movable. I'd imagine you could use the APC slot from EFLC and rig the arm so it moves as if it is a turret, but I can't think of any other way to control it.
  24. Keep in mind that GTA IV is one of the worst PC ports ever, and modding it makes it even less stable. Try removing some mods and see if that fixes it.
