  1. Did you set AI not to use ELS in the ELS.ini? Also, I go through and deactivate it individually on each vehicle that doesn't use it and haven't had issues with AI using it when it wasn't supposed to.
  2. Here it is, the ELS Impala Lights vs the Non-ELS Impala Lights
  3. Yes, I said I use ELS 6. ELS 5 is more stable, however, with the AI not using it, 6 will work just fine. The car's lights look different (when they're on) yes, but its the absolute closest you're going to get. The stock GTA squad cars look woefully different, and these modded cars look markedly better. The difference in the lighting isn't enough to distract or ruin your immersion into the world. In fact, I was using these Non-ELS cars before I discovered that they had ELS versions, and these Non-ELS cars are actually pretty good. This is mainly for people, like me, who don't like the lightbar R* put on their cars and who want a more traditional Red/Blue lightbar (not to mention an actual CVPI and Impala).
  4. Hey guys, I had a separate post that I made talking about a couple of cruisers that are Non-ELS that also have identical ELS-H versions. In order for this to work you have to have ELS installed properly. I use V6 and have had no problems whatsoever. Just make sure to disable ELS for AI in SP mode in your ELS.ini. They won't need it anyway. Non-ELS Chevy Impala Non-ELS CVPI Ok, using these two cars make the CVPI your police and the Impala your police2. I got this idea when Break said he didn't mod his police and police2 with ELS enabled cars, and it helped his stability. These cruisers are not ELS enabled, so you won't have to worry about the extra load on your system when you acquire a lot of back up units. These will be the police vehicles that all the AI drive. Second thing you want to do is go to C:/GTAIV/Common/Data (or wherever your GTA folder is located). Find the file called cargrp.dat. Scroll down until you see the line that starts with police, police2... Delete the other cars behind police2 so that the line has only police, police2 in it. This will ensure that only those vehicles are driven by police in your game. These will be the units that respond to your back up calls, the Non-ELS modded cars we added in Step #1. ELS-H CVPI ELS-H Chevy Impala Ok, these cars are identical in every way to the Non-ELS cars you added in the first step, except that they are halogen only versions of the vehicles. These two vehicles are going to be the vehicle that the player drives. One goes in the FBI slot, the other should occupy one of the stockades. You'll have to edit the handling.dat and vehicles.dat to make the vehicle you replaced the stockade with handle and act appropriately in the game. Also make sure to edit carcols.dat to change the FBI and whichever stockade you use to be white. Make sure that you enable the halogen only option for these vehicles. Last thing you want to do is edit the popcycle.dat file and replace every value you see for perccopcars column to a 1. This will reduce the number of modded police vehicles found throughout the city, and as a result lower the polys to make your game run more stable. For textures, I use LCPD Themed Livery it gives some nice looking textures for the LCPD. Well there you go, you now have continuity in your livery, none of your cruisers look out of place, ELS or not, and you have the functionality of ELS in the cruisers that you, yourself drive. I haven't had a crash since doing this.
  5. I actually found a GREAT combo that works really well for me. On GPM I found a CVPI and Impala that are non-els, fairly reasonable for poly count. Further looking found an IDENTICAL CVPI but is ELS-H. I use the non-ELS CVPI and Impala for police and police2. The ELS-H CVPI for my own cruiser in place of FBI, with ELS V6 installed. With the edited popcycle.dat file to cut down on native game police population (thus also cutting down on polys) and also editing cargrp.dat to make sure the only units responding to backup (unless NoOOSE is called for) are the Non-ELS CVPI and Impala. I have the LCPD enhanced livery installed on all vehicles, they all look identical, until the lights are turned on. It's a great set-up. I have had zero game crashes, and unit continuity. If anyone is interested I can make a post of the downloads.
  6. Don't quote me on this Russ, but I believe increasing the probability of russian, italian, irish, etc. gang members in areas will probably increase the probability of peds guns.
  7. Actually, credit to Iconography too, who told me where the file was to edit in order to cut down on the police presence. When I edited I cut it to a max of 1 cruiser in each zone's subzones. It may be that is too few, but I have had positive results with it.
  8. I wish I had taken a screenshot of the chase I was in last night. When it was over, the suspect was surrounded by 10 police cars, 20 cops who all got out of them, and lasted about 2 seconds once they all opened fire.
  9. First of all, I never asked the devs to do a thing, secondly, I'm using a 3.2ghz Quad Core and Win 7 64 bit, thirdly I don't have FPS problems, I have 10+ back up unit problems due to the game's native police population joining my pursuits uninvited.
  10. Whether I'm running 10 poly models or 500k poly models, 10-15 back up units in a chase is completely ridiculous, especially if I'm not even calling for it.
  11. I know you did, just reporting that it works on cutting down on the ridiculously excessive backup. You were right about how painful it was to edit also. lol
  12. I know its happened to me a bunch, and its extremely annoying, 15 backup units and you all chasing one guy and crashing into each other. I found out (painstakingly tedious finding out) that if you edit the popcycle.dat file in GTAIV/Common/Data and change all the values for police cars to 1, it drastically cuts down on the amount of police in the game, and also makes it so you don't start a train of police cars on every chase. I had a chase that normally would attract at least 10 back up units (that I didn't even call, they were just roaming LC) only attract 1 straggler. The chase ended with 3 units and myself in pursuit, two that I called and one that was randomly picked up. Editing the file is very tedious and very time consuming, but worth it.
  13. I'm running traffic flow right now. I've edited the popcycle.dat file to drastically reduce police vehicle population, going to fire it up and see how it goes. I'll report back.
  14. I do agree whole heartedly unr3al, the chases get WAY out of hand. I had a chase going earlier with 9 other units. A little ridiculous. Not having ELS cars helps a lot. When I was using non-els, but modded CVPI and Impala, I had zero crashes. I have found that editing cargrp.dat in the GTAIV/Common/Data folder and removing the models you have modded makes it so you never see another ELS car on the road unless you F12 it into existance, this also seemed to help stability quite a bit. I can't stand the stock noose cruiser though, and a road filled with Polpatriots is probably not a great idea lol. Just how do you check the poly count on a vehicle? I'm thinking about modding in some non-els, low poly vehicles into my FBI and Noose slot for normal police traffic and keeping my els units to call in for chase back up.
  15. Is there a way to cut down or eliminate the spawning of Police1 and Police2 in the traffic spawn rotation? It just seems like sometimes I can see as many as 5 or 6 police units in a 360 degree view, that's a little ridiculous, and also cutting down on the police spawns will help with people who crash from too many modded cars on screen.
  16. Well does anyone have any links to low poly models?
  17. Well I decided to try something new with ELS V6. It seems that if you use cars that haven't been updated since V6 was released it is much more prone to crashing. Bxbugs notes on his mods if the car is compatible with a particular version of ELS. I've used two of the newer models, that are V6 supported and so far no crashes and very nice frame rates.
  18. At this point it's kinda lookin like I'm goin back to ELS or I'm boned.
  19. Nope, I got rid of ELS V6 because it was crashing too much, and the AI doesn't use ELS properly with V5, so I decided to just get modified cars that use the in game lighting. I found a couple of nice models that look pretty nice, however, when I conduct a traffic stop,I have to do it without lights as the in game siren causes cars to pull over and mess up the traffic stop. Also when I leave the lights going after I get out of the car, when I get back in the siren sets off. I'm just looking for a script of some sort that will allow the lights to flash without causing traffic to pull over, and activate the siren when I want them to while not conducting traffic stops. Probably a tall order, but I'm so fed up with ELS, even though it does make the game look simply amazing, its just too unstable in V6, and V5 is utilized properly by AI.
  20. The / key? Yeah, that does just lights, but unfortunately it still causes vehicles to pull to the side fo the road, which screws up traffic stops. Was hoping for something that just turns on the lights but doesn't cause motorists to react.
  21. Hey guys, I've been looking everywhere, does anyone know or can anyone make a script that will allow the regular GTA IV emergency lights to operate independently of the sirens, and if you know of one or can make one, can it be so the lights don't cause people to pull over, and lights with sirens will?
  22. Hmmmm I did, still not working. I did change the keybind in the script to Numpad- and Numpad+ from Numpad0 and Numpad1, maybe that's my problem. Sorry for the double post, I can't edit. Just an update, the script does work, however its horrible. Just having the lights on still causes cars to pull over, which causes the suspect to pull over all whacked out, and then on top of that, it also for some reason completely mutes all of the cops speech. merged
  23. Olanov, this is what you're looking for here It has CVPI, Impala, Charger, Tahoe, and Transport (swat, buses, etc.) all enhanced with unit numbers, divisions, precinct info etc.
  24. Ok, so totally fed up with the crashes caused by having ELS lights. The one thing that got me down about the normal in game lights was that you can't operate them independently of the siren, but I found a script that does that. It's called siren.cs. I'm not sure how to use a script with a CS extension, can someone enlighten me?
