If you could bring back any Game/ series
Nikopol replied to OfficerJessica's topic in Computers, Technology & Gaming
Sierra is back! Thanks for the great news! If they're going to release a Swat sequel, I really hope they don't ruin the series with a childish mass product, as other developers did: X Series, Hitman, Rainbow Six, Sim City and so on... It's depressing. -
Thanks, this is a great tip!

It is simply wonderful, thank you guys! The "check ID via radio" is lovely =) No more bugs/crashes so far, it works very well. AI behaviour in general seems better too (not seen those 30 cars on 1 suspect anymore: now they're 5, for real) Again & again & again: thank you!

Use the new LCPDFR Diagnostic Tool.exe in the LCPDFR folder. To me, it only works in "Advanced Mode" (bottom left flag of the window), otherwise crashes. Hope it helped =)

Pollution and global warming... Not that sure about that, sincerely speaking. It is not proved that global warming is caused by pollution. I think that pollution is just speeding a bit what is a natural earth process: world's temperatures have deeply changed during centuries, in a continous oscillation. But I'm not enough informed about that, so it's just my personal opinion. To be clear: not saying "let's pollute" here =) I agree with you: I don't think PCs are "the" impact maker. But it would be interesting to find data about it, maybe it's a wrong supposition. By the way, so the question is: what is an impact maker? I'm tired about the green trend: it seems that citizens "have to" change their lifestyle. It should be a great thing, but: why do we have to "pay" for others' mistakes? Why do I have to change the way I live while the real high polluters and consumers (industries) continue indiscriminately their non sustainable politics? (in Italy we say "pigliarla al culo", which may be translated as "taking it in the ass") Again, I agree with your view: is primary to regulate companies/industries/etc politics. In the end, regulating the way industries produce directly affects people lifestyle. For example the european directive EPBD (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive): changing the way we build is to change the way we live. And this is great, I think. But if we're going to live on Mars, in the future, it will not be because of pollution, it will be because of sources exhaustion: you can live with pollution, you can't without energy (generally speaking, food included). Honestly, in that case, I don't think we'll even emigrate: we'll simply die (the problem persists: where do we find resources?). That's what earth is doing right now: consuming itself slowly dying. I think that the point is: we can continue to run after the exponential energy requests (with exponential energy production which, nowadays, will anyway bring the earth to the overshoot) or we can re-think the way we consume that energy. ps: nuclear energy is not considered a renewable source (in Europe, at least - sorry, the link is in italian)

It is not the same topic: power consumption and waste treatment have very different environmental impact. Waste and pollutions, generally speaking, are not priorities for mankind survival. Energy production and consumption, on the contrary, is the real problem nowadays. I'm not talking about energy "green" impact, because the real problem human kind is facing is: where and how are we going to retrieve energy if we have not enough sources anymore? I know, it seems science fiction, but it is not: we are consuming sources faster than earth can renew them. It is called "Earth Overshoot" and it's valued by the "Earth Overshoot Day". You can study it in deep consulting the pages of the Global Footprint Network, here's an interesting link: http://www.footprintnetwork.org/en/index.php/GFN/page/earth_overshoot_day/ That said, I'm going to repeat myself: energy consumption is a priority and it is not a pollution problem. It's about exhausting planet resources. And this is why we talk about sustainability: we need to consume less producing more. Of course garbage and pollutions are serious problems too, but don't seem a priority to me, if compared. By the way, talking about industries: economical primary & secondary sectors, the "high polluters", are not world's majority (talking about percentanges). Tertiary sector, the one which potentially uses computers, is the world's majority. And this is incredible, because we are talking about a planetary average! "Evoluted" countries are not the planet's majority: it means that "we", evoluted citizens in evoluted countries, mostly work in tertiary sector, confusing the statistics. These are the GDP world's percentages composition by sector of origin (2013 est. from CIA's World Factbook): agriculture: 5.9% industry: 30.5% services: 63.6% Here a few link for consultation: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/xx.html https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/fields/2012.html So: even if we think about waste and pollution, we have to focus on energy consumption. What about Google? Servers and data banks are very high polluters! Just think about servers' cooling costs and energy consumption, not to mention the power every server rack consumes itself. A few interesting articles about: http://www.businessgreen.com/bg/news/2288738/googles-footprint-falls-as-users-emit-eight-grams-of-co2-per-day http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/google/4217055/Two-Google-searches-produce-same-CO2-as-boiling-a-kettle.html What about IT in general: http://www.itweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=70866 What about Facebook: http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/facebook-expands-server-farm-sweden-22815462 (This is not casual: scandinavian countries are investing a lot on IT. It's funny: being very cold places, servers' cooling is very less expensive)

That was interesting but, as unr3al said, is a waste of money. Nowadays "green attitude" is a trend, but in most of the cases it's just a spot, a commercial. Sustainability is a very difficult target which requires complex evaluations. Just to make an example: water recycling shower designed by Danish Design Centre http://edition.cnn.com/2013/11/11/tech/innovation/futuristic-water-recycling-shower-orbsys/ It is not sustainable, it does not seem to be. First of all: water is a renewable resource, it's not that necessary to recycle it. The shower uses filters and materials which require expensive (in term of money & work) maintenance. These filters and components are made of expensive non renewable materials. These materials require long travels to be delivered around the world. Travel means CO2 consumption. Travel means costs. Constant maintenance, as said before, is expensive. If it is not cost efficient, it is not efficient at all. These are just few evaluations, we can discuss about this shower's environmental impact for hours.

Both integrated, it seems. HP Notebook AMD Radeon HD 6480G DELL Desktop ATI Radeon HD 4200

Great. Now you have to find manufacturer's brand & products' model. As I wrote before, I suggest you to install CPU-Z: it will give you all the informations needed. (what you need to know: what slots are used and what RAMs are installed - you can find those informations under SPD tab) Here again the CPU-Z LINK
-
That is VRAM, dedicated video memory used & available. As you didn't mention graphic cards in your specs (& reading those low VRAM values), I assume that both computers have integrated graphics. Maybe the laptop one is better than the desktop one; for sure it has more memory =)
-
Beware motherboard's supported RAM: DDR standard (memory's clock standard - DDR2 or DDR3) and maximum supported RAM. Also, if you're planning to add RAM instead of replacing it, be very careful to respect memory timings between slots! (some info here). It is important that every RAM slot uses the same timings (and preferably also clock). Otherwise annoying random crashes may occur. If you don't know what kind of RAM is installed right now, I suggest you to use CPU-Z: a simple tool that gathers system informations. I remember you that, anyway, RAM slots work in parallel; for example: slot 1 --- A (4gb) slot 2 --- B (2gb) slot 3 --- A (4gb) slot 4 --- B (2gb) In the case your motherboard supports DDR2 only, and you're not familiar with memory clocking by BIOS, I strongly recommend you to replace RAM instead of adding it. That's because, as I remember, DDR2 (being an old not anymore "supported" product) costs more and hardly you will find a piece compatible with those you have installed. 8 gb of RAM is enough for gaming, web browsing and most of applications. 16 gb is pretty useless, unless you have particular requirements (such as "pro" applications). Good luck =)

That's what I'm using right now, never thought to scale it! Thanks for the idea, will surely try that =)

Thank you very much, but unfortunately the Whelen Vertex Super LED are those little blue dots used as mirror lights :(

Need advice on Gaming Computer
Nikopol replied to Nikesav120's topic in Computers, Technology & Gaming
I do not recommend HP laptops, as I've seen many of them (literally) die on coworkers & friends hands. They're very badly manifactured. In my personal opinion, ASUS makes the best laptops , quality / price speaking. Of course, if budjet is not a problem for you, there are many "gaming" brands with excellent products. Whatever your choice is, keep in mind that is anyway preferable an aluminium case laptop: both for shocks restistance & natural facilitated cooling (overheating & ventilation is one of the biggest issue for pc components). ps Not doing Asus' advertising here, but these laptops are highlanders =) They're the only ones to keep an everyday high stress usage (CAD, raster images modifying & laying out, renderings, etc...) without giving particular issues -
Architects "design" buildings, they don't "build" them =) again, I was just kidding. and again: yep, maybe I know about prices and stuff, 'cause I have to use those monsters (in the evil meaning) everyday =) [by the way... 3ds max is not used in studio: it's a prerogative of who makes renders, which is another job at all. 3D models are made with autocad / rhino / revit / archicad and so on, which are pretty different. it's useless and time wasting to set a render in 3ds max with vray, for example, while in designing process: you know what you're drawing. 3ds it's the final stage for client project showing. in fact, apart BIM designing, 3d modeling itself is timewasting] I'm sorry for the off.topic - As said multiple times: it was just a joke ps - about drawings (not buildings) touchability From "La tecnologia invisibile" by Nicola Sinopoli [The Invisible Technology], p 58 - A product first bought, then builded The buyer of a building product, the client of every initiative of construction [...] for a long time draw out money [...] without having seen anything else than "simulations" of the product for which has already paid a lot of money. [...] For every client to manage a building process is to manage a promise. (sorry for crappy translation) Essentialy: no, the client can't touch the building until it's made. The architect draws how it *should* be. During building process, many things for many reasons may change. pps After reading the post I realize that maybe I used an "asshole" tone, and I'm really sorry about that BUT you can't teach the plumber how to fix the sink =) [specially when you're wrong eheh]
-
Just kidding there, it was ironic =) they get paied to make something people can't touch (drawings) [and it's my job]
-
wo wo wo wo wait wait wait That's what architects are paied for

The worst thing is people reaction. In truth, I see how human kind is uncivilized. People too fast respond with unnecessary anger. As far as I can see, everyone wants to penalize. But I have to remember you that prisons were made as a temporary solution: the real target of a country is to rehabilitate his guilty citizens. And to deprive a human being of his freedom & dignity is surely not the right way (not to consider that prison itself is not a working rehabilitation method). I must remind you that ethics & morality are not the same everywhere. In Europe death penalty is rightly considered as "state murder", it's an offense against human dignity. That's how it works in Norway http://content.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1989083,00.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anders_Behring_Breivik -- On 22 July 2011, he bombed government buildings in Oslo, killing eight people. He then killed 69 more people, mostly teenagers, in a mass shooting at a Workers' Youth League (AUF) camp on the island of Utøya. -- Something to think about.

[API][WIP/REL] Callouts+ - Additional LCPDFR API Callouts
Nikopol replied to LukeD's topic in Script Modifications Showroom
I think LukeD needs to focus on the API issues itself right now, maybe not yet ready & useful to waste time (at the moment) in other mods compatibility (as it seems the API is crashing itself) By the way: keep on and take your time! There's no need to rush =) -
