Of course, emergency vehicles need to be refuelled. In the lull period before the acts arrive, emergency personnel on site are reccomended to have their vehicles fuelled and readied for the day ahead. And with Friday night patrols and responses drawing fuel from ambulances and police cars, Saturday morning was mostly fuelling up cars, the acrid smell of petrol and diesel in the air when the Yellow buses began to arrive. RON stations were known to smell really bad.

Just before the gates were opened to the general public, meanwhile, the GLP were up and around the delivery bay checking the latest delivery - a lorry full of Logger beer kegs, due for the bar. The driver was stood outside, mouthing curses about lateness and puffing on a cigarette, while a team of four checked every nook and cranny of the lorry, which was eventually released without a hitch.

The next morning, as a First bus from somewhere up north drove out to the airport to pick up Yellow passengers, it broke down. Although another bus could be called out from the control point to supplement the lost bus, this still blocked a section of the motorway while workers tried to fix it on the fly, before being forced to call in the Arriva towing service.
