  1. The only way Rockstar's hand might be forced is if some third-party fake info is leading to a competitive disadvantage or a huge PR disaster (e.g. a former developer says that the game has a mission where you shoot up an elementary school or something, and mainstream news reports it as fact) [to be fair, it's not like Rocktar really cares about PR], in which case they might specifically say "no, that doesn't happen". There's no reason leaks of PC testing results would force their hand; there's no disadvantage to just not acknowledging it.
  2. I'd be surprised if Microsoft had an emulator, seeing as they have as many Xboxes as they want and can modify them however needed without worrying about 'warranty'. Commercial developers have access to development kits, which are specialized hardware produced by the console manufacturer that are disigned to develop and debug code on. Emulation is stupid when the manufacturer is able and willing to supply you with modified hardware to handle the needs of development. Also, based on my rudimentary knowledge of these systems, I'd be *shocked* if there's an emulator that can play commercial games at reasonable speed. The PS3 and Xbox 360 have highly specialized processors with different architectures than the x86 processors in general-purpose computers. While I've heard that the first Xbox was literally a standard x86 computer running an OS based on DirectX (hence the name 'Xbox'), the 360 is much more specialized. That's really hard to quickly emulate.
  3. First off, that isn't really surprising. Second, even if it's been in development, doesn't mean it gets released. While it'd be odd for Rockstar not to release it, it'd be possible for them to work on it for PC before deciding that it isn't worth the cost to finish development. Unlikely, but possible. Hell, I'd be surprised if RDR was never even tried on PC: I'd imagine that they began a port process before deciding not to port it over (that way, if they did want to port it, they'd be somewhat far along). Theory: Maybe part of the reason R* holds off on announcing PC till console ships is because GTA's really expensive to make, and if it doesn't do well on console, it's not worth the price to bring to PC.
  4. As it turns out, though I don't have a useful console to play it on, the people in the suite across the hall do have a copy. Hopefully, I will wind up able to play it.
  5. Hate to burst a bubble, but it took 7 months between IV's console and PC releases. 6 months doesn't even come close to "better port than IV". In fact, the reason we're guessing 6 months is *because* that's roughly what IV had. Also, IV was apparently announced for PC in August 08, also after its console release.
  6. Or, more likely, by using a cheat engine-type program (which I *believe* basically latches on to the game as a debugger, and directly modifies memory values, though I may be totally wrong)
  7. No, I think I like the notion of "perspective". Here's the thing. Terrorists in the US are realy good at one thing - buying supplies or getting info or generally telling their plans to undercover federal agents. Other than that, they basically fail, and have historically basically failed. The more people working together, the more lilely this is to happen: more people, more chance of a leak. Daily or near-daily open combat (i.e. murders in dark alleys don't count, unless as part of an organized campaigm) seems like a necessary condition.
  8. Oh my! 50 WHOLE members? Why, that's almost 0.00002% of the population! You're right, this IS like a war zone!
  9. MY DOG IS THE PRESIDENT OF VIDEO GAMES.
  10. That's the thing - he has no information on GTA V. It is quite difficult to script a complex, involved mod for a game without actually having the game or having any info on it. I think someone is not telling the truth.
  11. I HIGHLY doubt he's working with Rockstar on this. What is the motivation, from their perspective?
  12. First, from pictures, a whole lot of different federal agencies were onscene. DC has tons of them. Joint Base police, military police, US Park Police, Capitol Police, ATF, FBI, NCIS, US Marshals, and probably others. DC is crawling with feds. Second, this can fall under FBI or NCIS investigation, or, for that matter, probably any number of other agencies. The FBI has the expertise on this sort of thing, so they take lead. It's not like they work at cross-purposes: I highly doubt that the investigation will be all FBI agents, and other agencies will likely also be involved. That's not to say NCIS has *no* experience; they do, and would likely be perfectly competent to handle this. Whoever said "civilians dying aren't their jurisdiction" is wrong: the NCIS can investigate ANY crime that bears *some* relation to the Navy. Even "being near a Navy base" can be enough for them to help, and anything on or in a Naval facility is *absolutely* within their jurisdiction. It's just that it's also in the FBI's jurisdiction.
  13. Yes for sure to 2 and 3, HOLY CRAP A NON-LORE YARD1 SKIN to the first ;)

  15. Why in the world does a beat cop have a role in fighting off an invading army? For that matter, how does arresting muggers lead to an invading army? I think you misunderstand both the concept of this mod and of police-criminal relations. First, this mod simulates a first responder. You aren't a supercop. Combat is not your main focus. You are an everyday officer working a beat. You make plenty of arrests; you aren't fighting a war. Also, this mod strives for realism. One of the most fundamental police-criminal things is that the police have greater firepower available than criminals (overall). In some cases, criminals have more firepower than police, but those are scattered cases against one or two cops. Organized crime groups are less likely to go after cops, because killing a cop brings the entire weight of the police down on the group (and the police always win those fights, at least in the US). Large-scale organized crime attacking the police happens rarely.

  17. Steam? He's talking about V, and PS3 Digital, not PC IV with Steam.
