Right now my CPU is running at 88*. I just stuck a fan near it tho, dropped it down to 55 :/

Hey guys, So my CPU cooler went to dumps... or at least the fan did. Should I purchase a new fan for the cooler, or a new cooler itself? Also, is it even possible to change out the fans on CPU coolers, and if so is it difficult? My friend said it is but then again he likes to be right 99.9% of the time. Thanks guys.
