  1. I'm not enjoying it. I want this to be over and these guys caught. Whether they live or die isn't important. Catching them is and for the love of all that's holy I'm hoping it's just Boston and nowhere else. EDIT: I was due to be in Mass last month, missed my flight but I'm now finding another way in. I just don't understand it at all, why attack Boston? Why attack a marathon?
  2. If you mean downloaed via Steam, then no, however you can in theory reinstall easier. Having said that, Steam doesn't always play nice with mods
  3. No the original APB was an arcade police game back in the 1980s, see here also made for DOS: Nothing to do with RTW/APB:R which is a different game entirely. The arcade/DOS version that I linked to did not cost a million dollars to make, it cost less than 200,000. Tengen's APB (who converted the arcade one that I linked to for DOS) enjoyed good sales of that game. If it is so hard to break out of the mold, then why do 'different' Kickstarter games do well? Why did Minecraft take off before it got 'cool' or 'hip' to play? I would love to see a Kickstarter funed actual police simulator out there, much like LCPDFR, without a publisher insisting that stuff like big explosions or Hollywood stuff goes in.
  4. Falcon 4.0, niche game (hardcore flight sim), sold upwards of 300,000 copies. Okay, Microprose at the time marketed it heavily, but it also stood on its own two feet as a great game, niche market or not. M&B is a niche game, indie market, it sells well. Gand Prix Legends was a niche game released at the same time as Falcon 4.0, that sold well. IMO there is a deinite market for niche games, just look at all the German sims coming out, street cleaning, delivery vehicle, oil platform, I'd call those niche as much as an LCPDFR sim. Also, look up the original arcade APB, that was sort of like LCPDFR.....in the same way a Subway roll is like a sandwich.
  5. However, let's assume a kickstarter for an LCPDFR type game was started and given a generous deadline and easy coding (Unity for instance), could it actually be done, marketed, and made very well? Some of the best games I've played aren't for the general public (ARMA series, M&B, RUSE, Wargame, NR2003 and mods, Falcon 4.0) Problem with their idea, great as it is.....is there's already a bank robbing game out, PAYDAY and while its good, it has flaws. I can't see PW staying strict to what the devs want as soon as people get influence, they'd want to mainstream it, bad, bad, BAD idea. However back to my kickstarter game, I would love for the LCPDFR team....or another team, I don't mind, to make a police sim that isn't all SWAT or explosions or action, I want a game or sim that actually simulates police work, the boredom, the tedium of it.
  6. Showed this to a few friends in Belgium, they're now getting TNT programming Mission accomplished! EDIIT: Wow, who would have thought Belgians on both sides would come together in support of this vid? (Or, making a long story short, a carpet firm I know buys from both Flemish and Belgian suppliers, they have all said the video is brilliant)
  7. It's Belgium. I've been there often enough to know that stuff like that is normal where I stayed
  8. This is one of my pet peeves that really bugs me currently. Gaming, or what is wrong with it? I'll preface it by saying yes, I am a gamer, I play most games that come out, I'll give any game a fair shake, but its some aspects of it that really get to me. First off, the whole GTAV hype and stupidity surrounding it. No, this is NOT a V topic, but I find the hype and lengths people go to pathetic, they figure anything must relate to GTA. Which, no, seeing a V on a clock doesn't relat Secondly, game design in general, I got talking to a good friend who worked at Bioware during ME1/2, and kept an eye on ME3, they made the point that regardless of what you do in a game, it's still the same result, your choices don't matter period, you are in effect locked into what the designers want, even the open world isn't open Thirdly, how games deal with sensitive issues, BioWare (again) got a lot of flak for one of their staff and their position on social issues (I forget which one), which IMO is stupid, then you have Activision bringing out CoD every year which, being blunt, brainwashes kids into thinking war is a game and they can sign up and do the same dumb crap they see in the games.
  9. Love the callout ideas, though I think the drunks ought to be random and not just around bars, is it possible to make one of them get in a car? Thinking though that the gang warfare would be more NOoSE's area. How about expanding on a few of the existing ones, maybe in the domestic call the suspect doesn't always give up when you point a gun at them, some males like that are full of adrenalin and bravado and figure they can take a cop, or may want to be killed by a cop. Or, for the armed suspects, more than one car. For the star suggestion I doubt that'd be added in honestly,
  10. I'm biased for pistols, person I share a house with has a .45 M1911, so that's my vote, the only handgun I've actually shot, the other guns have all been rifles (for rifles, a .22 and a .308 hunting rifle....which makes holes in the woods round here)
  11. I'll add my 0.02 here about cops that just want the power and cops who actually care about people. I saw both sides in 2010 in London. I was in London in 2010 coming back from dinner with a friend when an officer walking the street in a high visiblity jacket and hat stopped us for what seemed to be no reason, yelling at us to stop and if we didn't we were going to be arrested, that carry on. He then went and interrogated my distraught friend about her nationality (Israeli by birth) and beliefs (Jewish) simply becaus she said she doesn't like the whole Israeli-Palestinian war and wants it to end. The best bit, they gave her (A US national) a police caution for, and I quote 'hate speech'. Thankfully she was able to go to the station and talk to the sgt on duty who cleared it up and got rid of it, the cop who gave her that caution was known for such a thing then removing the cautions. Totally and utterly illegal, but (and I mean no racism here), he saw himself as part of an Asian 'quota' to be hired to keep the Met multicultural, so he tended to pull the race card whenever he got into trouble (which I learned from the desk sgt telling me this, that he hed a few people a month come in and ask WTH they got a caution for when they did nothing, the desk sgt and I both agreed we hoped he got fired. Karma got him, he got stabbed to death sadly responding to a call) Then, on the flip side, same trip and a few days later staying with my relatives they got into a fight in a pub over drinks when somebody pushed past them, so my uncle who was pretty blotto at the point, decided to shove the guy back and got a punch, the police got called and didn't just arrest both of them straight off, they took statements from everyone in the pub, and then stayed to ensure we were all okay about it, the police didn't have to stay and help 50 or so pubgoers out and collect statements from everybody in the pub (even the kitchen staff who saw nothing), but they did, they stayed longer than they had to and I could tell they genuinely cared about the people and the job. Worth noting that the police officer in my village falls squarely into the 'Cops who care about people' aspect, he looks out for all of us, somebody in a stolen car smashed into a war memorial and he got up at 3am to arrest them and hold them there until a squad car arrived and went to get a torch to write down the registration plate of the stolen car.
  12. Huh? I can use taxis just fine with the mod if off duty, I hit E, taxi stops, hold F, get in, it works fine for me with LCPDFR running and not on duty. Though, I can't speak for anyone else...and if you're on duty why are you taking cabs anyway ya expensive....:P
  13. no Boxer, as it happens regardless of model, its happened on R* default models and several other models i tried, it isn't car specific at all
  14. Thinking about the VIP escort mission posted up there ^ made me consider how it could be done. A Stretch could spawn waiting, then when you get within a certain distance of it, it drives off, your task is to stay with it (think riding in the Lost in the beginning of TLaD, with the marker), being in that marker would repair the cop car. This is where it branches into a simple run from....let's say....Westdyke, to Francis International with no problems at all, or Masionette/Hercules clubs to the airport (or the airport to any of those) Or it could devolve into an ambush/shootout call
  15. One more from my village Porsche Boxster S (driving through late at night), guy was yelling at his GPS loudly so I figure he got lost.
  16. Yes to the first one, it will be a problem. But, don't those sites also carry a lot of non-infringing content too? And what about stuff like Linux that use such sites/torrents to distribute updates? IMO it'll come a point where the US will try to make downloading ANYTHING a crime. Have fun with that US government.
  17. No but they do style themselves as 'THE BEST AND ONLY MODDING SITE GOING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111ONEONEONEONEONELEVENTYONEMILLIONANDONE', so when stuff like this happens, it does tend to generate topics. As said it's not the only modding site, but they've been styling themselves as the only site anyone needs (and enforcing that too) Same as what'd happen if Digg or Reddit got hacked, just on a smaller scale really.
  18. For GWB, it was about finishing off what his father started in Desert Storm Obama has to clean up what GWB started, I honestly feel GWB/Blair ought to be tried for war crimes, exactly the same as Mlacic/Milosevic/Rako were and are being, they are no different to any other war criminals. Clinton did not take the US into any illegal or unconstitutional conflicts at all while he was in the White House, to my mind he was pretty much the best President since 1950 for that (putting aside his closet escapades for a moment), he stayed out of wars and had the guts to say 'No, we aren't going in' Also, Iran has refused to negotiate thanks to cultural differences, going to war will only result in a nuclear war, something I for one don't wish to see thanks. I fail to see how having them at home and still fighting wars will reduce the debt however. You cannot expect in todays climate to not fight wars, it's the way of the world. Even the UK with its slashed military is making noise about the Falklands (the fact they'd get totally wiped out however...), if anything, having them at home would make wars more impractical given travel time. No different to here, the three big parties here are working for lobbyists. But over there, at least you got the choice of independant candidates. I find it scary how Romney and Obama have the same top few lobbyists. $1.3 million US dollars is a lot to Germany. I may be off on the figures, but Germany's also in a lot of debt along with most of the Eurozone, they would gladly take those Euros to pay off the debt, I looked up earlier how much a base is in the UK. Approximately
  19. I'm gonna dispute that. The 'same policies' are not appearing over and over. They are a recent development. Did LBJ have the same as Kennedy, Clinton the same as Bush, Carter the same as Ford? To say that the country is on the road to ruins due to the White House is not true. There's been bills proposed that either party has blocked that would help the US, it is not as simple as to lay the blame at the President's door. But, key thing, early 1900s. Not early 2010s, times and the world have changed though. You simply cannot expect in today's climate,to have a small army and successfully defend a nation with it. Ron Paul is actually a Democrat, running Republican to get more votes. I expected Obama to try hard, but if he does not have a lot of influence in both houses, he can do all he can and not have a lot to show for it. Wrong. The 200 bases in Germany, the Middle East and Eastern Europe and the Pacific contribute majorly to the economies of those nations in both money, and jobs. By closing them, you'd leave the nations worse off by a large factor, those nations you said are in debt and need every dollar or euro or yen or whatever currency they use. To illustrate, Angela Merkel stated in 2010 that the US bases generate in excess of 1 million Euros in money for the German economy. Closng them would harm certain countries and likely hurt diplomatic efforts. Let's take a base in Dachau as a hypothetical example, I already quoted Merkel as stating it provides a lot of cash/jobs for Germany, it is also ideal, logistically to be closer to any front lines than to have to fly from the US in missions. Suppose all the bases do close, and the US has to go into Syria to keep the peace, would you rather the troops make a round trip from the US, or from a base nearby? I would rather have troops on the ground nearby able to get there quicker, than waiting 14 or more hours for a plane.
  20. Yes, the MoD had their defense budget slashed...while the nation's millions in debt. There's a lot of other ways to save money besides making more people unemployed.
  21. I see a problem with Ron Paul however. While his ideas may be noble, he is simply out of touch with the modern world. For instance Okay, I'll give you a smaller government, however, how would such a smaller government be achieved in the current economic climate? Not gonna happen. The existing laws from 1777 on were drafted to work with the constitution at the time. Do you actually think he and his gov't would be able to work with every single constitutional amendment without breaking several laws, laws the media would leap all over him for? Exactly the UK's reasoning. What are they doing? Firing 3,000 soldiers and scrapping the entire Navy for a start. That's 3,000 people in the Army who can't find work any more, several hundred thousand in the Navy who are either reassigned or let go simply because of a politician's wants and whims.
  22. I'm now jealous of your guitar skills....
  23. I've stopped sanitation trucks before.... Unless that's a whole other vehicle
  24. I hit E then immedaitely clicked log out yes, I was able to conduct a trafic stop as normal up until the bit where it said get back in the car to use the database Happened again just now in a R* default vehicle (the cruiser) now
  25. To add to the info I've not got any ELS enabled cars at all on my two installs. (IV 1.0.7.0 or TBOGT 1.1.2.0 I think it is, least that's what OpenIV says), and I ran in front of a taxi and went to hit F, the animation just played over and over and over and over. Interestingly, my partner's door was open at the time, but hitting F to get in it didn't work, it had the animation of running to the driver's door instead of getting in the passenger side. I can try to recreate it if needed
