  1. I've been poking around in vehicles.dat and have two questions. First off: Is it possible to have one vehicle type (say Admiral), but two types in vehicles.dat? Say I have a civilian CVPI as an Admiral and I want it to be used for an undercover cop car (Police2), how would I go about that. Is it as simple as copying one line over the other and saving? Secondly: Is there any way at all to do a traffic stop when not in a police car?
  2. It's Numpad 8, 4, 6 and 2 to navigate Numpad 5 to select, Backspace or numpad 0 to go back. F3 or F4 to open/close the menu
  3. Huh! I'll catch my local village cop and ask him about it while walking my dog. Though, admittely i'm up in the North and it's a case of sticking two fingers up at elf 'n' safety here mostly. I've had more luck asking the ambulance services and even then only got a meh, we'll get back to you on that....
  4. FYI, look around for a Steam key. There's (legit) sites that offer the game for cheaper than Steam. Say if Steam has it for £30, there's sites that have it for £10
  5. Ahem, Alan Wake (and AN which is decent) is now on PC. It recouped the cost of making it.....in 48 hours. Amazing! RDR was R* San Diego which never (aside from MC2) releases PC games. EDIT: Okay, seen GTAV keys on those legit Steam key sites, but maybe that's a misprint
  6. Suddenly I have the urge to create a meme pic based off of that.. But a 7 ft guy in a Camry? I'm gonna guess it was a sardine can in there TO PHOTOSHOP!!! So this one comes from a friend whose dad is an EMS in NY State, he often hitches rides home with cops afer their shift. I was laughing so hard when he told me this on the phone. For the purposes of this, let's call him Danny. He rides along with this cop an an unmarked blue CVPI on their way home as they live a few minutes from each other, and this Mustang pulls up next to them at the lights and the whole Stang is shaking with rap music, so the guy stops at a light and the cop gently nudges the back of the car to get the guy's attention. Nothing major, just a tiny push. So my friend's dad gets out and asks wtf he's doing (his exact words were 'HEY YOU ASSHOLE WHAT THE F--K ARE YOU DOING AT 1 AM BLASTING LOUD MUSIC?!), the guy in the Stang gets out. Nerd glasses taped together, sweater vest, he has a Syracuse student ID, let's call him John Doe for the purposes of this story, let's call this nerd Bob. So Bob gets out and explains the stero's been glued as a prank, and he's driving to get glue remover, so this cop asks if he can check in the car in case he's got drugs. Bob agrees so the cop gives the Stang a once over then tells Bob to pull over up ahead, so Bob does, the cop then tells Bob to get out the car. He does, the cop goes through the car after Bob asked the cop to. Why? Well, Bob wanted rid of his CD collection. And for good reason. Nicki Minaj, Beiber, One Direction, you know, awful stuff. He told the cop he had lethal weapons in the car, the cop was going to call for backup when Danny spotted the CDs and asked Bob what he meant by 'lethal weapons'. Bob explained the CDs were so bad they could kill somebody with bad music. So the CDs got disposed of, and then Bob asked for an EMT. Cue Dannny saying, and I quote I'm sorry, Medicine isn't advanced enough to cure bad taste in music. That'll be $500 please. I just about lost it at his reply, he's a 100% smartass....and the cop is no better. I do have more tales from Danny, but I need to clean them up a lot before I tell any more. I like being here thanks.
  7. So wait A seven foot black guy, in a tutu, blasting Justin Beiber?! I'd say the drugs got to his judgement. Though is it wrong I'm laughing so hard at the mental image of a seven foot black guy rocking out to Beiber in a tutu?
  8. My personal choice in a UC slot is.......well, something strange like a Trashmaster. I mean, it's perfect, you'd never suspect anything from a garbage truck driving down the road, perfect surveillance platform really.
  9. They can actualy, provided it has THREE significant changes. So, for instance. Different trunk shape is one. Shorter hood is two. Different shaped doors is three. Rebadge it? Bingo Or just do Carbon Motors cars, the E-7 was it? That hideous thing
  10. I'm confused on the whole permission thing. I know I have to get permission to convert, however I've a few worries about the system, so can anyone help me out here? Let's say I wanna convert a car from Shift 2, I get permission, but then it's revoked a few days later and I keep it for personal use, I don't release it or use it in any vids at all, that (least the way I understand it coming from other games) is fine, i.e. I don't go showing it off or posting pics or talk about it, it's solely on my system and stays there. So let's say I model a car and show WIP pics and then somebody comes along and starts stuff like 'OMG YOU STOLE X'S MODEL' when I know I made it from scratch. Is it really that easy to claim that and go aorund accusing people of stealing models or illegal rips from other games? (I've seen the Huyera from Project CARS in IV already and I am not happy about it, I argued there that the devs ought to make it harder on a technical level to rip content). Case in point, Forza. In the racing sim community people usually convert from games with the same engine, rFactor to Race series as they have the same game engine underneath it all. The problem though comes with stuff that's been ripped from game to game, it gets harder to track down the original authors and permissions. For instance, I convert a Porsche 911 from Forza to rFactor for my own use, then that gets converted to Race 07, then that gets picked up and converted to GTA IV then back to rF under another name. It'd still be my model but I'd have no way of proving it.
  11. But the Max Payne franchise is smaller and riskier in terms of a PC release however. Yeah they had two seperate games before but they were developed by GoD (I believe, I may be wrong on that), whereas something like GTA is a massive, massive hit.
  12. I don't get why GTA gets delayed but Max Payne 3 launched at the same time though. That shows they can launch the titles side by side if they want to.
  13. Actually....there's a speeder callout though, I've heard of kids racing against the clock from point A to B in a city, so there is that to it. Though I wonder how easy it would be to set up a script with a two car street race for instance?
  14. Traffic events are already in PoliceHelper, okay so it's one car right now but.....
  15. I'm saying what could happen if an agency did look into the IV modding scene, regardless of how it's done (after all the NYPD hit a pizza place run by ex-cops using the NYPD name and logo with a letter, and we all know how the crime rate is in NYC) and decide to take action, that it is very, very feasible they could wind up with a lot of reprucussions as far as mods and videos/video making goes however. Imagine somebody like Spiers or Airsoft getting their account removed or Machinma getting caught up in any possible problems due to skins and/or copyright. No, it hasn't happened YET, but to think it won't ever happen is dumb. All it takes is one incident of a PD (besides Ottawa that is) requesting removal or flagging several videos and bang, account gone.
  16. But.... What do they define as non copyrighted? Logo? Font? Name? Skin coloring? That's the thing, if I did an LCPD one with the same logo, font and paint color, but saying Liberty City PD would I be lin line for a letter?
  17. Thing is though....It doesn't have to be somebody telling them, if you have a youtube vid or pics out there it's easy to find. Let's say an agency goes and finds out their skins are on Youtube with some Youtuber going around killing everyone on LCPDFR on Youtube, and somebody at that PD or state trooper starts digging more into it on the job or at home and takes it in to carry on digging (which is plausible), it wouldn't just affect the skin makers.. It'd cause a LOT of damage and affect a lot more than just one site. It'd affect Youtube and Machinima (since there's people partnered who use skins). Let's say the LAPD requested the removal of all the LAPD patrol vids from Machinima, which they can do, that'd be a lot of deleting Machima would have to do, let's say that they then go and look into LCPDFR because of a link on a video or several videos, they'd be able to hit the site and forums for takedowns. Not just that, but they could easily get a lot of big LCPDFR Youtubers banned too under Youtube's strike system, somebody who does all 50 states, or all cities in a state is a hell of an easy target to hit with strikes as opposed to somebody who does one vid in one area, does another vid with a fictional skin, third one with another skin and so forth. Oh and....does anyone have decent non ELS LCPD cruisers then?
  18. You try making a game, ANY game with licensed content and try to simulate reality. Licenses will dictate that you must leave things out. Let's say you do go ahead and get the licenses for this example game...here's what you'd have to leave out without compromising. (And these are the examples that I've seen and read about) Car makers: Won't let you run people over (Ford is notorious for this, so good luck getting any licensed cop cars) Won't let your car catch fire (Most car makers don't want their cars catching fire) Won't let cars flip or roll over (which was often cited for the PS2 Gran Turismo series and confirmed by Kaz, the lead dev) Won't let your car be written off (in terms of the passenger compartment being damaged at all) (All car makers) Gun makers: Won't let the 'bad guys' use certain guns (The big gun makers) Will insist on no shooting civilians or friendly troops (See CoD) Will insist on only using certain weapons (again the big gun makers) Police: Won't allow police officers to be killed Will insist the good guys win (Since, ya know....it's mandatory the good guys win) Publishers: All of the above
  19. Is there any way that I can change the ped ID radius, like if I want to be closer to a ped before being able to check ID, is that something I can change or do I need to somehow get the source and recompile it myself?
  20. It isn't BS, there's sample C&D letters that can be mailed out. Sending one des not require a lawyer or a court case. For instance in the BATRacer case, it did not involve any lawyers at all, merely a letter asking for the content to be removed. It's the same at a city level. The Ottawa example on GPM? One call requesting a takedown. No lawyer. No court case. Just one call and it got taken down, no moneyt spent above and beyond what was normally spent that day Secondly: The GJPD is well within their rights to tell anyone using their image or name to stop. It is the GJPD's name and logo, if he'd have used a fictional logo and changed name, no problem. It's the same as using a McDonalds logo to promote obesity. I'm seconding the request to post the C&D letter as well, I'm willing to bet it's a standard 'stop doing this because....' letter. EDIT: Unless, that is, they can control what goes on in said game and have input. Being cynical, if it was a game where the GJPD were the good guys and you spent the whole game busting criminals and couldn't shoot anybody else other than criminals...they wouldn't have an issue with it aside from the unofficial skin making...but because it's GTA and because you're a bad guy, they aren't keen on it at all. The fact that it's their skins is a very easy and convenient reason to get it removed. It's like in FPSes, gun makers only allow their guns to be used if the 'good guys' use them, Totalbiscuit explained it in one of his videos (I think it was about the EA and MoH gun buying one), where if game companies license a gun....let's say an M16, Colt will come along and say something like this: Colt: Okay, you can use our gun but on one condition. Devs: What condition Colt: That the good guys get to use it and the bad guys can't You think I'm joking? I'm not, those restrictions do apply, it's the same with cars. I know I've made this point time and again, but you try finding a car maker for a game that will let you run people over or have the whole car crushed. I will tell you now, you won't find any car maker. Why? It's awful PR. It's also awful PR for a PD to be assicated with a game like GTA, even if it's through modded in skins, it's about image.
  21. Difference with the t-shirt is the GJPD licensed the t-shirt though and it's an offiical GJDP product, a skin isn't licensed or official. They can tell anyone to stop using their logo or name, it's their property (this discussion was over in the more exposure thread too).
  22. So is it an EMS equivalent to LCPDFR....and can both run together? Say I got LCPDFR turned off, can I run the EMS mod and the other way around?
  23. This looks decent. Dare I ask for any specifics like.....is it like LCPDFR in ters of you can toggle it on and off?
