  1. You'd be amazed. Ferrari took down a free web game for using their name and images without permission and have gone after people making Ferrari skins before, they do not leave a lot of wiggle room. Look up what happened to BATRacer in 2009 (the game I was referring to), it essentially killed that site. Porsche have slapped modders with C&D orders and ordered those modders to delete code. So yeah it does happen, Ferrari's lawyers and Porsche's lawyers do not mess around at all. However, take comfort that if you're making plane models or skins, you have a LOT more room to do what you want (with a few, notable exceptions and even then there's ways around it), as airlines don't really care if you paint a British Airways 777, whereas Ferrari would throw lawyers at you for modelling and painting an Enzo without getting a license. It's double standards, sure, but that's how the lawyers operate. I was gonna say companies, but given it's always mailed from the legal firms....ya) EDIT: It doesn't need to get to a court though. All it needs is one C&D letter and/or DMCA takedown, no court needed, just the will to send a request or a letter. Whether the infringer agrees with the letter or follows it is another matter, you can be hit with a DMCA claim, counter it then go through the rounds of proving and claiming without setting foot in a courtroom if it's all done online. As for the whole is is it worth it angle? Yes to protect what is theirs.
  2. You reminded me how that game worked with the inventory. Though I think an inventory management isn't needed. However what I wouldn't mind seeing is 4 weapon slots. Baton 9mm Pistol/Tazer (always equipped) Heavy 1 Heavy 2 So say you go on duty, you walk out and pick your car, when you hit E, it shows a menu. Get Weapons Rearm Close Get Weapons would have the weapon names and Heavy 1 or 2 by it So, I pick M4, Heavy 1 and SMG heavy 2. I'm then locked into those as soon as I leave the station, but if I drive back into a station (any station's parking lot), I can swap out the weapons again. Is that asking too much or could it be scripted in by somebody already?
  3. Wasn't the ability to give orders in an old build? I like the other ideas. Is it easy to do this already by only giving a pistol with SNT and seeing if the other weapons are got through a trunk?
  4. Based on their cruisers? Their property, so yeah they have standing No but a PD that you are making a skin of or a car maker does, it is after all their property and they do have to take steps to defend it else they lose it. Though the NYPD seems to not care (that much) about people using their skins, whereas a Ferrari cop car would draw the lawyers in (or a Porsche cop car)
  5. For now, but if somebody like Nanners or Hutch or (God forbid) Pewdiepie discovered LCPDFR and tells people how to get to it, I can quite easily see that their fanbases would come here and start yelling and screaming and demanding changes. That is one of my worst fears for this mod. The classic example is DayZ, there's people who only got ARMA II for DayZ, who want DayZ in Arma 3, who want it ported to every game going (not to mention carrying on a zombie craze).. I'd rather not have Pewdiepie singing this mod's praises and his million fans rushing here to DL and post 'ZOMG THIS MOD IS SO EPIC'. I kind of like it's a mature community really that knows its stuff and is building on top of GTA rather than trying to change GTA The other one? Lawyers. Let's say the mod gets more popular, it'll attract attention both good and bad, all it takes is one lawyer to send a c&d letter to a modder (or you guys at G17 Media) and suddenly the floodgates are open. I know of a few police departments that are extremely protective of their stuff, designs, name and logo. I did a quick Google and found that there's been C&D orders before for other games, and a search for "grand theft auto" cease and desist shows this site as the fifth or sixth result. Which....isn't exactly ideal.
  6. Right, that sets up the game as far as your PC settings go. Once you've done that mission, saved and quit, run the LCPDFR installer as admin, and it should auto detect the Steam install directory since you ran the game once.
  7. Okay, first off. Complete edition, it includes all three games. Secondly, run the installer as admin. Right click, run as admin if you're on Vista/7/8 and if it asks you to confirm running it, select yes.
  8. Not at all. Steam is free to get and use
  9. Okay, going from a totally clean system. Ready? Good, here goes! Get a Steam account, since IV/DLC needs Steam either way. But whatever you do, don't buy the boxed copy. Instead, go to Steam and price up the complete GTAIV set (which is IV, TLAD, TBOGT). So let's say it's $50 US. Look around online, shop around for a cheaper copy. There's sites that sell it for $20 or $25 US, half the price of what Steam retails at. The best bit? You get a Steam key either way. Now go to Steam and either click install if you bought it through Steam, or activate the key you got, bottom left corner where it says + ADD A GAME... Then, while it's downloading. Go and install the GFWL client (though it's a piece of...yeah). Go download LCPDFR 0.95RC2R2, which is in the download area here. Once IV is installed, or TBOGT (you can skip TLAD as far as FR goes), load up whichever you prefer and do the first mission, then save the game and quit (or keep playing, your choice here but you do wanna play FR right? :) ) That will create a setting file. Now, if you're on W7/8, go to where you downloaded LCPDFR, and right click. Run as admin, say yes to UAC, if you got the four green checkmarks, you're good to go, if not, make a note of what you need, and install the missing items then rerun the installer as admin again. Okay, so you got to the choices, right? dsound or xliveless? Your choice, I personally prefer xliveless as I can run a 100% complete save and not have to worry about accidentally going into the storyline while playing FR, however dsound is the more stable version (but not by much). Hardcore or no? Your choice, depends if you want the blips on or off and to die when turned into Swiss cheese Callouts? Keep them on. You can turn them off later on. So, that's done right? Good. Now fire up IV or BOGT. Load your save game. You should be in between missions. Okay. Press the up arrow to bring out your character's phone. Scrll down to options, left mouse. Sleep mode. Left mouse until sleep mode is turned on. Now right mouse till you back out of the phone. Next up. Hit Alt+P. That turns on LCPDFR. Now head to a star icon on the map, enter the red checkpoint. That'll take you inside. Hit E, take notes. Then go play
  10. I'll resurrect this as I've been thinking how to explain my concerns about Youtubers bringing in an influx of....shall we say, 'kids' to the forums. It's frustrating but it happens to every game. As for Seananners, I'm tending to side ver so slightly with him here in that if people want to see LCPDFR they'll demand it, and it's up to him if he wants to put the vids up, he has other games and series on the go. My problem with the big youtubers is the people who ride on their coat tails and whine and bitch. I've looked at that lined video and seen people asking for more (myself included as I've been a fan of Gassy and I generaly know how he plays games), then you got people demanding games, asking for MP sessions and so on. However, the thing that I like about Gassy, Nanners and Diction and the rest is they have moved on from FR, they've gone back to regular IV and its built in MP. The issue though comes when the kids get on the forum and start trying to force their view across. A classic case is America's Army 3. The game (I hesitate to call it a sim) is paid for by the DOD, and the devs have access to the military weapons and what goes where....yet there's always people (and sadly it's usually teens) who pipe up wanting SMGs because they saw it in a movie or a game so it must happen in real life. Eh no. I don't want that to happen here to be blunt. I'd rather not wade through hundreds of 'ZOMG ALL COP DEPARTENTS USE CROWN VICS' style topics to find a mod, or witness flame wars because somebody thinks that all cops in NY act a certain way and it gets out of hand. Already seen in Youtube comments on some videos sadly as well. I'd also argue that simply because IV is a recent(ish, i.e. 2008) game, it needs a good system to run so it isn't as easy as grabbing a 6 year old system and slapping a disc on and playing (though I'm sure somebody, somewhere has gone and made and sold ready to run IV copies with LCPDFR installed. Really wouldn't amaze me sadly), that will deter people from finding it
  11. I noticed the real traffic mod link and emergency response links give a missing file error (among others on gta4-m)
  12. Sweet thank you, time to go grab them and save them EDIT: Wow, EPM caused my game to not load. Weirdness!
  13. Sweet, thanks. I did leave a coment on the vid about it though so both bases are covered. I was wondering due to the real car names/non ELS bit, the weapon pack he has on YT works fine but that's a smaller DL
  14. Quick Q Any way to download Carrythxd's Vehicle Pack V4 as the youtube links are dead, or can anyone point me to an alternative link since Mediafire's being stupid and telling me the files got removed or blocked or are missing.
  15. FWIW it's pretty common to use different stuff in private closed door testing then change it for the final version, least as far as the project I'm involved with (That had real, but rebadged cars/tracks that got badged once licenses were done or altered) so it's not just this game that does it.
  16. It shouldn't matter what graphics card I have. I can (and do) run IV maxed out with zero other issues. Scripthookdotnet.log shows this several different times when the script screws up: 2013-06-19 20:40:53 - Error during Tick in script 'Policing.Policing': System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. at Policing.Policing.activateEvent(Int32 incident) at Policing.Policing.Attend(Object sender, KeyEventArgs e) at GTA.KeyEventHandler.Invoke(Object sender, KeyEventArgs e) at GTA.Script.ProcessEvents() at GTA.Script.DoTick() at GTA.ScriptThread.OnTick() 2013-06-19 20:40:53 - Error in Thread.Abort: System.Threading.ThreadAbortException: Thread was being aborted. at System.Threading.Thread.AbortInternal() at System.Threading.Thread.Abort() at GTA.NetThread.Abort() 2013-06-19 20:40:58 - SCRIPTS TERMINATED! EDIT: Fixed, turning off resist arrest cleared everything up nicely
  17. I doubt that somehow though, I have no issue with the LCPDFR or PH callouts or models loading once I'm actually on patrol though, it's saying the person doesn't actually exist for the callout, can they be killed by the AI without my interveing or what? I did get one collapse call to work, succeeded at that, then a string of non existing errors
  18. I found a bug on my end here, I keep getting a lot of Code 4 responses to calls, looking in the console reveals a Person does not exist error. How to fix that?
  19. So you'll release a playable build when? :) This sounds really, really interesting actually and I for one want to see where it goes. I like the art style and I'm wondering if you'd considered a sandbox/free play mode aside from the main story, pick a time of day and just go
  20. Okay so I got all of those and a low poly carpack. However, it's fine when playing normally. As soon as I go into LCPDFR, all I see is taxis. I can quit LCPDFR, go play normally and disappear and then go let the traffic respawn, it fixes itself. (Yes I got trafficload enabled too) Any ideas? It's the Essential Car Pack V2 in the link in the first few posts, the http://www.gta4-mods.com/vehicles/the-extended-22525mb-car-pack-v20-f14175 one I'm using. It's fine in regular play but as soon as I go into a station, thud. Taxi bug and nothing fixes it. Trying the V3 pack to see if that cures it. EDIT: Gah double posted, anyone want to merge those posts? EDIT 2: Okay this is weird, it's like LCPDFR's overriding the car spawning which I know isn't happening. As a workaround, how would I set my player model and voices to a cop without actually going into a station?
  21. I was actually going to stay away from ELS as my system's not that stable currently, it tends to lock totally up under heavy load and I don't want the added stress of ELS adding to that though, so I'll go with non-ELS stuff for now. Aren't the ones in the FR installer the latest? On my old system I updated both manually and it broke FR and other mods I was trying to get working. Or putting it another way. If I update scripthook and Scripthookdotnet, will it break any mods I got working at that point? See I got told on Youtube by asking a guy who does LCPDFR videos that the PoliceHelper and Braveheart's scripts conflict if you have them both running at once since they can generate two events at the same time.
  22. That's a good list actually but I'm trying to narrow it down and see if any conflict with any others or if there's a way to stop script conflicts.
  23. So I'm redownloading IV and LCPDFR right now and I lost my list of mods. What are the 'must have' mods? I already plan to get Braveheart's script and PolceHelper (and the two scripts it references), but what else is a must have? I'll get to car packs as/when I want them, I'm only after actual addons/scripts. EDIT: Will any scripts conflict with each other, like if I got Bravehart's running will it conflict with PoliceHelper or if I got PoliceHelper running will it affect a towing script?
  24. Before the Texas City oil blast, people were worried about that refinery being hit by a terrorist attack. That turned out to be BP's own incompetence. Given that the fertilizer plant didn't have a permit and likely stored the chemicals needed on site, it was a disaster waiting to happen. It is very, very reminiscient of PEPCON in 1988 with the explosions (or threats of explosions)
