Real police officers - One state trooper killed in my state

Recommended Posts

On Tuesday night, a routine traffic stop for reckless driving turned out to be a tragedy.

Corporal Marshall Bailey of the West Virginia State Police was shot and killed by a drunk 22 year old.

Trooper Eric Workman was critically hit and is fighting for his life right now.

A Roane County Sheriff Deputy and a tow truck driver were also shot at, but were not seriously injured.

The suspect was shot and killed shortly thereafter by a local SWAT team.

That's the paraphrased version, here's the local news reports: http://www.wsaz.com/breaking/home/BREAKING-NEWS-Two-WVa-State-Police-Troopers-Shot-167774505.html

I know it's not really uncommon for this to happen, but when it happens locally, you feel kind of distressed and heartbroken.

I think it takes a special kind of douchebaggery to shoot - much less kill - a police officer.

Just thought this might gain some attention of the actual law enforcement personnel on this forum. I know being a police officer is like being part of a family, I've been around enough of them to know that there is a special bond that can never be broken between them.

And this could've been prevented if he didn't drink...

Condolences to the deceased state trooper and injured sheriff & tow-trucker.

Rest In Peace, i learned the other day that alcohol is prohibited meaning ILLEGAL in Northern Canada, being the iqaluit, anyway, an RCMP Officer was responding to a call, when he arrived at the scene to a man driving like an asshole, he shot the RCMP Officer dead before he even got out of his cruiser, the shittiest thing about it was, he was only a Police Officer for going on his 7th Month and, he was only 20 Years Old, i wish thing's like this never happened, although, i wonder what's going through their head's when they are pulling that trigger..

It makes me sad to see these headlines. Too many Brothers and Sisters have been killed in the line of duty. I am thankful everyday that I was able to perform my duties without some mentally unstable or murderous individual taking my life. Unfortunately so many have not been so lucky.

My heart goes out to their loved ones and colleagues. It is never easy to read posts like this.

Avs.

Unfortunately, I just learned on the local news that the other state trooper, Eric Workman, just passed away. Press release: http://www.wowktv.com/story/19431526/state-trooper-eric-workman-has-passed-away

The situation was already sad enough, now we get this news... Man...

It's a tragic event that I know will turn into a "lessons learned" for new officers in police academy's across the country. It's another painful reminder that officers need to always perform thorough searches. 3 lives could have been saved with just a proper search of the suspect, very sad indeed. I feel very sad for all the families affected by this tragedy.

The funeral of Corporal Marshall Bailey was today. I didn't go to the funeral, but I did happen to see the funeral procession. I would say over 95 percent of the cars had some form of emergency lighting, either as an actual police or fire vehicle, unmarked vehicle, or civilian with EV permit. Incredible sight to see. Probably over 1000 total cars, too.

Just to further mention the brotherhood between police officers: There was an officer that came in from Alaska to pay his respects. 3,200 miles. Incredible.

Wut??? If that's true it's a bit racist law, seems taken from the XIX century... there are white people that can stand more alcohol, and other that with 2 cup are drunk, so I don't see it can be a race problem...

And this could've been prevented if he didn't drink...

I don't think being drunk it's just the problem; I've been with people that had drunk a bit too much and they didn't have killer impulses, maybe carrying a gun is also a big cause of what happened, besides that the guy seemed to have violent record, even pointing with a gun some officers time before.

"Unit 6-6-5.... Unit 6-6-5... Rest in peace, Trooper Eric Workman. You will not be forgotten."

Those words spoken today over the West Virgina State Police frequency somehow managed to knock every ounce of breath out of my body. Even just thinking about it brings a tear to my eye.

That was actually the first time I heard a final call. If it's almost too hard for me to handle as a civilian who has nothing but respect for first responders... How does it affect an actual first responder?

Man...
