Thoughts About TeamSpeak 5?

Recommended Posts

Hopefully I am not the only one here that misses the old Teamspeak days... Don't get me wrong; I like Discord, but it has a different feel from Teamspeak. What do you guys think about the Teamspeak 5 announcement? Do you believe Teamspeak still has a chance to compete with Discord? If so what do you think Teamspeak can do differently? I was able to find some of the beta screenshots of Teamspeak 5 and seems to have a bit of a "Discord" like feel.

Back when TS3 was still the main one everyone was using and discord had just became a thing, I hated the idea of discord. I really did not like the fact you could access it from a web browser and that fact alone made it look very cheap to me. But later on I did download the discord app itself and have never and will never go back to TS. Discord changed the game by making a free voice server platform that you and your friends can play on that also combined things like memes, streaming, and other various additions to make it a full package. You really can't beat it. You can be in the middle of class or work and check your phone and see a gif or image your friend posted. It does sell your data to most likely marketing companies and the government but so does any mainstream website like google, facebook, etc, etc.

Discord > everything

In my opinion, TS3 and Discord have their own problems each.

Making Servers: TS3 requires you to buy a server through a third party to chat with friends. Discord allows you to make one for free and is easier.
Roles: If I remember, on TS3 certain roles could be given out by Moderators and you had more control over what roles could be handed out. Whereas, on Discord, anything under the role can be given out if you allow them to manage perms.

In all honesty, TS3 is good for certain situations, and Discord is good for others. I know when I play Island Life on Arma 2, TS3 is the better option. For me, I love Discord for just chilling with friends.

I think TeamSpeak were far too slow to respond to the threat of Discord, and I can't see anyone ditching their Discord servers for TeamSpeak v.Discord Lite.

Discord is absolutely horrible from a privacy point of view, but unfortunately there was nothing better, and that's what everyone has gone with.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
