The Beast from the East.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

So in the UK, we are experiencing some troublesome weather, snow. The news is calling this 'storm' The Beast from the East due to arctic winds being blown over from Siberia. This is causing some serious snow fall for some areas and it is being said that this is the worst snow fall that the country has seen for years. If you live in the UK, you will know exactly what I mean if I only say 2010.

2010 was the last time that the country has severe snow and they are saying that this weather front is going to be like 2010, if not, even worse! Because the wind is coming in from the East, it seems to be totally drying out the snow to make it like a fine dust or powder, it kind of reminds me of tiny polystyrene balls!

People in the worst affected area are being advised not to travel. Usually they say not to travel unless necessary but this time it is just a categorical DON'T! Most of the schools in the central Scotland region have been closed due to this weather and rightly so. I have only heard of one school being kept open in Edinburgh. How raging must the teachers and pupils be, good luck to them!

This morning, my girlfriend needed to take her car to the garage to be fixed, I followed behind her in my car to drive us back up the road once we had dropped the car off. I can confirm that what the news and police are saying, do not travel, it is a very wise statement as I lost control of the car more than once, also fucked my alloys!

For our emergency services though, that will have having a hellish time over the next few days, probably weeks. Digging peoples car out, responding to cars who have crashing into each other due to the roads being slippy. I would applaud them all if I could, but I can't!

Now this snow is nothing compared to what other countries like New York and Canada get. To them, this is just a light flurry. Here is a story that the Edinburgh evening news has written that gives a bit more info on it:

Stay safe people.

I'm in Central Edinburgh, and it's not anywhere near as bad as people are making out.

But hey, I've been to Geneva when walking was difficult and the snow went half way up your leg, so maybe my opinion is biased.

My thoughts go out to the homeless, though.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

It's snow problem, the really issue here is the fact it's freezing cold. I don't do cold weather, it's too cold as of right now.

🕵️‍♂️ Always watching, always waiting.

What made it worse was, I'd drove from the back end of Liverpool all the way to Keighley in Bradford, and the place I was collecting from was shut. 145 mile round trip for nothing.

See, if we in Great Britain had this sort of snow, I'd expect travel disruptions and people not being able to get into work. But we get 5 inches, and the whole country shuts down and shits itself.

To be honest, this sort of snow causes a collapse here as well. To quiet the crowd, our city managers refer to what happens in NY and London during snowstorms as examples :D
