I doubt something would work like this in the U.S. by 2040. The best selling vehicle is the Ford F150. SUV and Truck sales are at all time highs, small car sales are dwindling (including green cars an

  • I think its one of these things that it will all die down in a few years. I think politicians are ignoring the bigger problem - IMMIGRATION AND SUBSEQUENTLY POPULATION. You wouldn't have the problem i

It is somewhat of an urgent issue, but it's not at the top of the list.

To be quite honest, I would say the fact that my toilet is clogged is at a higher point than climate change right now on that list. Why, you may ask? Well, because my toilet being clogged has a direct impact on my life at this very moment, whereas climate change holds more long term consequences; consequences that we won't see for quite some time. Or at all in this lifetime and several after.

Pretty sure global warming and climate change is pretty urgent, but what do I know.

Okay... fine. I'll be honest. It has had a direct impact on my life in one way thus far...

So, for you to decide it's time to do something about it, you first need to wait until it actually has a direct impact on your life? But the thing is, once it'll have an impact on your life (a decisive one, not only a few more degrees on the thermometer), it'll be too late to change anything about it and we'll be pretty much doomed. That's a very US thing, to think that as long as it doesn't impact you, it's all fine, a very... selfish way of life, which does not surprise me, actually.

Well I probably won't be here by the time that happens, friend. On a personal note, I don't really care about anything in that sense because even if I did, nothing would change. I can't speak for the US, but I guarantee you that most Americans really don't care. They'll say they do but do they really? Even if I did care, we'd still be doomed because most others don't care worldwide. They'll post rants on Facebook, share memes, and like YouTube videos but they won't actually go out and attempt to do anything productive. They'll continue to wake up, drive their gasoline vehicle, throw their gum wrapper on the ground, say "that's terrible" to commercials of starving children, and go to bed. Then it's just rinse and repeat the next day and that's how it will always be. Nonetheless, if our environment doesn't kill us, we'll kill ourselves regardless. Humanity is doomed and it doesn't matter what we do or don't do, we're all doomed man. Once you've accepted this reality, you find much more peace and harmony in life. So long as I need a jacket in the winter, I'd say we're fine for now. Humanity won't thrive forever, it will end, and that could quite possible be sooner than later.

Oh well. I suppose we should all sell our cars and buy Tesla's to make you happy. Put all of our lives on pause and put the environment first.

Ever consider what those batteries do to the environment once they're trashed? And what we mine out of the earth to make batteries? There's going to be a shortage of minerals for batteries, more so than fossil fuels. That will drive costs up for batteries.

Well if the energy would be produced by solar panels and tidal powerplants... Why not. However if not they'd better consider how much traditional power plants harm the environment.

On the other hand, today it looks nice on paper and by 2040 no one would remember it. Besides, you can extend some deadlines, delay that for another 10 years...

I suspect that it's an attempt to appear more eco-friendly. Air in London is at potentially toxic levels of pollution, so they're under a lot of pressure to do something (or to be seen to do something) about it.

That's also why they're talking about charging diesel cars to come into the city.
