[Resolved] GTA IV won't boot even after reinstalling multiple times

Recommended Posts

EDIT: Issue has been resolved . Thanks for all your help

I'm perplexed by what I did to my game. After owning the game for 6 days stable on 1.0.8.0, I got frustrated due to the lack of mod support. I decided yesterday, I tried downgrading GTA IV steam retail from 1.0.8.0 to 1.0.7.0. I ended up with the error message SecuLauncher: Failed to start Application [2000] after I successfully was able to boot the game on 1.0.7.0. I then went ahead and installed Scripthook, Simpletrainer, ASIloader, and Xlive.DLL. Unfortunately after doing all that hard work, my game would after the R* screen display the message SecuLauncher: Failed to start Application [2000]I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game 3 times and am furious that I still cannot get the game to work (same error).:verymad:
scripthook spit this error today

Could anyone please help me out Any sugestions on what I am missing? Its so frustrating to have to delete, clear all files in the steam folder and re-download again only to find out its not working. To add insult to injury, TBOGT boots up fine. Just not GTA IV

By the way I have a modded single player copy of GTA V on my computer but am unable to play that due to lent :(

Hi,

It is important that you go back to each step you did and find out what caused problem, not reinstall over and over again.

First, make sure you have a legit GTAIV copy from steam, make a backup folder to your desktop, this will be the folder that you going to put mods in and downgraded as well, but always keep your steam original game folder clean, in case anything happened you don't have to waste time reinstall.

Second, use backup folder to downgraded, make sure you use a legit downgraded that stable with steam version of GTAIV, after downgraded right click on GTAIV launcher run as admin, test if works well.

Tired, you want to install mods to your downgraded game, don't put everything in your game folder all at once, you have to install mods one by one. I recommend you download lcpdfr 1.1 zip file, then copy those scriptsHooks to your game folder, those scriptsHooks are the most stable files to use. Then install trainer, because you already have scriptsHooks when you install trainer, be careful don't replace the same files, use lcpdfr's scriptsHooks.

You CAN NOT use two asi loaders at same time, if you use xlives.dll, you can't use dsound.dll, same as if you use dsound.dll then you have to remove xlives.dll. For me I think dsound.dll is more stable than xlives.dll, but which one you want to use is your choice.

Please follow tired step to install trainer and scriptsHooks and pay attention don't use two asi loaders, as always, when you install mods make sure you install them one by one, then go back to game and test it, also, feel comfortable with make backup copies of your game, in case you can always go back to original if something doesn't works.

Any problems free to reply.

Peace

Thanks for the help:smile:

I'm under the impression now that I made the mistake of installing both Xlive and Dsound. In addition to that, I may have mixed up files from my valid steam version with a possible bootleg version I thought I could circumvent the downgrade method with (originally I had trouble installing Lessmsi).

Now, I learned my lesson how to downgrade and, spent that extra time installing Lessmsi to aid in the downgrade. Best of all, I am more experienced now with GTA IV modding and more confident in my abilities. This should help me figure out whats wrong. I'm re-downloading 1.0.8x now and, will check to see if it runs before fiddling around with anything. Next up will be a downgrade to 1.0.7 so I'm on a moddable version and if that works, I'll back it up :)

On the bright side, at least I am still able to mod EFLC and, in TBOGT, I already installed ELS, LCPDFR, and Dsound and I can confirm all is well :)

Glad to hear that.

I'm always spent lot of time writing those detailed replies... feel like I'm writing an essay

Anyway, it's always a good thing learn from crashes, even though you spent lot of time on it, but who doesn't? As long as you keep trying, stand up from falling and crashing, even #nosleep like a crazy frankenstein, but one day you will realize, as much as you afford, more and more success you get.

Thanks its weird in my IT university course, one of the top 10 most common mistakes is overthinking a problem by yourself. They say, its always good to collaborate with someone else when fixing a computer because a fresh set of eyes can identify a flaw the first man cannot identify. By the way, I was able to get both everything working again and now I'm following your advice.

I love that concept of do one thing at a time and, make backups (even document your work) because, that can help you out. Its helped me out before both in GTA V and EFLC but, this one time, those screwed up permissions got the best of me.

By the way, with savefiles, I have one in another profile than the one the game is using. How would I convert it to work again. Do I need to use the dreaded Xlive? I tried renaming it but, the game got angry at me.

You mean saved game? saved game works with xlives, you must have xlives.dll to make saved games works. But make sure use saved game file that stable with 1.0.7.0 path.

Sweet thanks :) This time i'll make sure to not install Xlives and dsound. that might have made my problem worse.

Have you resolved this issue?

Thank you for checking in ! With all your guys help, I was able to solve the issue.

As it turns out, during my troubleshooting, out of the 3 IV executables, 2 were on administrator Windows 7 compatibility and another was on administrator Win XP SP3 compatibility mode. The game also did not like how I had both Dsound and Xlive at the same time. I ended up turning off compatibility mode all-together since on my system, IV could be stable using Win 8.1 natives and, ended up sticking with Xlive so I could use custom gamesaves.

As always so far in my experience, IV is not as stable of a game as GTA V  but, hey in the end of the day, modding this game is totally worth it !
