ELS is Horrible w/ Backup?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I'm really not sure if this has been addressed or if anyone else has noticed this, but I'm having issues with backup using ELS. One of two things will happen. For one, the backup will show up with their takedowns on... either day or night. This doesn't always happen, but when it does it just looks silly. And another thing I've noticed is that the LODs (I guess it is them?) are terrible on most ELS vehicles. When moving just a little bit away from ELS backup, I see lights / coronas where there are no lights such as on the side of the doors or in the middle of the windshield. This has to be the case for 75% of the vehicles that are in my game, including many of the new 2015 Tahoes. I know the LOD / corona issue is probably an issue with the model and can't really be fixed by a user, but does anyone else have this problem? Also does anyone know how to make it so backup will not appear with their takedowns on?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same man, same!

I really wish someone could figure this out. ELS is such a great feature but it seems to just mess up how the cars look from a distance.

I'm glad this isn't just me.  I recently updated my Sheriff vehicles to ELS, and my Tahoe is having this very same issue.

I need donations to help fund my food addiction. DM for details 😂

The takedown issue just seems to be on @Thehurk's Explorer, but the LOD issues are on many models.

LODs can only be fixed with the model itself. Which is why I stick to more experience developers.

It's odd because even the more experienced members, even their cars' LODs seem to be messed up with newer ELS cars.

LODs and coronas are two separate things. you are talking about els coronas. either the model developer doesn't really know how to properly set up the coronas, or he was limited with his amount of lights and placed them where he thought was appropriate.

sadly even some of the experienced devs dont properly setup LODs.  Its either nothing at all or just a copy of the L0.

are you talking about the els coronas or vehicle lods.

the vehicles lods wouldn't change at all for els. still the same setup.

That's because he forgot to enable extra_11 in the ELS config, so the takedowns are acting like traditional GTA extras.  Just use notepad and change <Extra11 IsElsControlled="false" /> to <Extra11 IsElsControlled="true" />

I'm not referring to LODs then... I guess I was getting confused because it only occurs when you're moving away from the vehicle at a distance. But mainly it is the coronas... like some appear on the side of the door instead of the light bar. Other times there will be amber coronas near the blue and red section of the lighter. And then other times there will be coronas where there are literally no lights at all, like the windshield.

Thank you! I will give that a try.

No problem.
as for the ELS coronas that's on the modeler.  I know that the ELS coronas shine through the car so like a corona on a rear TA will show through on the front side (that's because of ELS, so there's nothing we can do about that), but for coronas showing up out of place (i.e. the windshield), besides the takedown/scenelight coronas, is totally on the modeler.  If a corona is showing up out of place it means most likely that the modeler doesn't know how to setup ELS extras for V properly.  Just some advice, I find that most of the modelers who constantly throw models out like there's no tomorrow tend to have major issues like coronas being out of place, incorrect/ missing LODs, clipping issues, or major material issues, so I usually avoid those models and stick to people who spend more time making their cars, because it's all about quality over quantity right?

I don't think you got what he says.

The lights look beautiful when you're next to the car, nice coronas, nice and bright red and blue lights, looks pretty awesome. As you start to walk away from the car, the lights become milder and milder and look all washed out. No more shiny red and blue lights, no more coronas. Although the reflections are still there. You know how in real life you can see police lights from miles away, that's not the case with GTA V and the problem started after ELS came out. BxBuggs original LASD sheriff light looked so realistic from far away, it gave a great realism to LSPDFR. But now even his newest crown vic ELS version looks crappy, like the rest of them do from far away. Chases look stupid, all you see is reflections but no decent police lights actually shining.

Anyone else agree with me on this? Or do I live in LaLa land

LOL, if you can even see the cop car... the lights are on
