Yeah, I won the lottery. You're staring at my spendings.

  • Well actually that is a movie prop for the Hungarian movie industry. It has magnetic decals and a few other lightbars. There is an almost authentic LAPD Caprice and some CrownVic taxis. ( Note the ,,U

  • My new CrownVic... got it today :D It will be painted and equipped with a lightbar soon :)

Not only were Crown Vic's sales failing, they just were too old too keep up with modern government regulations on safety, and more importantly, CAFE standards.

Ford was going to have to ditch the car eventually anyway.

Underneath, the Panther platform was still a 30+ year old car.

Here's my '03.  It soaks up potholes and bombed-out roads with ease, and while thirsty, moves like a champ.  I was glad that it was a street appearance package car, being that I love all of the chrome trimmings.  Bought it used in and brought it up from North Carolina; let's just hope it survives a few NYC winters while being parked on the street.

@FCV96 I notice the rear amber indicators. Did you swap it out yourself, or did they do it before you purchased it?

The standard model Crown Victorias had separate bulbs for amber turn signals until Ford changed to a single bulb, red turn signal setup in 2004.  The police interceptor models in '03 had all red turn signals (and I believe they made the switch from amber to all red in '99), but being that mine is a street appearance package car it was optioned from the factory for the amber ones, to resemble the civilian models.

I understand that changing them from all red to red and amber (and vice versa) isn't too difficult given that you have the correct parts.

Was doing some random searching of stuff out of boredom, came across this:

http://ww3.autoscout24.nl/classified/279952034?asrc=st|as

Anyone got €8000 I can have? Please?

Not sure if it's a legit one or not but don't care. All red bar visible in some pics is due to Dutch law banning functioning blue lights on public roads, outside of actual emergency service vehicles. Still, a blue cover is supplied by the seller.

So here we have it. The first ever issue with my P71. Code P0401. I'm no under-the-hood expert, but apparently it stops harmful emissions from polluting and potential engine damage. Should be a simple clean up, if not, replacement part is about $140 from what I've found. A lot of people have said this is typical in Ford vehicles, but what can you expect.

At least it's not replacing the transmission I own two P71s a 2003 and a 2008 and have had to replace the transmission in both of them. If you end up having to replace the part check your local junkyard I'm sure they have some Crown Vics and the price will be much cheaper. Hopefully though it'll just clean up P71s are very finicky cars but, they're absolutely amazing to drive no other car like them. I'll attach some pictures of my two Vics the white one is my 2003 and the Blue and Gray is my 2008.

You should replace the rims on the 2003. There was a recall on those being the structural integrity had problems. I believe you should've gotten a recall notice.

Also, why purchase an ex-patrol car? Any reason?

Yeah the 2003 has the 13 slot rims on the passenger side and the 7 slot rims on the drivers side but I've owned the car for about 5 or 6 years and never had any problems with the wheels plus if the department only had the passenger side replaced they must be fairly comfortable with the drivers side rims too. As for why I bought them it's because they're cheap as dirt and it's super easy to find replacement parts for them which are also cheap as dirt. I've put a ton of miles on my 2003 and the only issue was the transmission went out recently and I guess that can be expected out of almost any car with 181,000 miles on it. The 2008 had a bad transmission when I bought even though it only had 89,000 miles on it. I think the 2008 model years all have a tendency for the transmissions to fail early due to the fact they used transmissions from the 2007 model year and just leaving a transmission sitting for about a year without using it is going to mess up some of the internals of the transmission from lack of use and fluid circulation. They're great cars and can do just about anything they're big enough to haul anything a small truck can, the ride is super smooth it's like you're floating across the road not driving across it, and they have a ton of power and are an absolute blast to just floor it in them. (which is probably how I tore up the transmission in the 2003 that kickdown from 4th gear to 2nd when flooring it is terrible for transmissions.)

I'd still replace the rims. The 13 slot is what you want. That's probably why they're there. Not sure why they put them only on one side, though. It's best to be safe than sorry by taking your chances. I do agree, they're cheap as hell but if you want a car to last you, don't buy a patrol car unless you have the cash to spend on all the maintenance issues. They may look good on the mileage, but those 60k miles are 60k miles of straight cop driving. The worst kind. My '05 was used in extremely light duty, first started its tour in Sacramento, working for the Sacramento County Courts, then made its way to a local police department whom a Police Captain rode around, then to an auction where an ex Orange Co. Deputy picked it up and took damn good care of it, finally ended up in my hands for 5k. 103.8k miles when I bought it, now just reached 105.5k last week. Had her for 16 months now. Not a single issue until now. Once that's fixed, I'll probably get a fresh set of tyres and change the oil. Most major issue on her is the horrid "Ford Tough" paintjob. Not sure if I'll put the money in on that, though. I may just upgrade to a newer model come the time. Hopefully a 2010 if I can.

Yeah, I like the look of the 13 slot wheels better anyways. I've had the 2003 for 5 or 6 years and it's been my daily driver and I have yet to have a problem with it other than the transmission and I that happened well after I bought the car it had around 120,000 when I bought it for $800 at an auction and, it now has 181,000 so it's been a great car. I've never had an issue with the paint except for a small patch on the roof that flaked off but I have seen plenty of P71s that have the paint peeling everywhere it seems to mainly affect the white cars but I have seen it on other colors. My 2008 only has 106,000 on it and I got it for $400. I haven't drove it that much since I just replaced the transmission a few months ago but, it seems to be pretty mechanically sound. The 2009-11s  have some weird build designs to them since Ford knew they'd be phasing out the Crown Victoria the build quality kind of started to drop off a bit since they started to focus on other productions like the "next gen police interceptor" however, I rarely see any 2009-11s for sale with bad transmissions which is the most common failure on a police vehicle so idk if I'd believe the whole build quality thing.

Well for that price, I'd take 10. Yeah, you can see some of the corners cut from 2009+. Especially on that crappy budget door side moulding.

The side molding looks like the one used on the civilian Crown Victoria without the piece on the front fenders no idea what they were thinking with that move.

It's shaped a bit differently. I don't mind it, but it's cheap quality. It starts to discolour really quickly.

I prefer no side moldings at all. it's weird how many people believe the car was exactly the same from 1998-2011 and can't tell the difference between them even though they changed many things on the vehicles over the years.
