Computer taking longer to respond (Help! D:)

Recommended Posts

Hi, this has only started almost a week ago, about 4 or 5 days ago, but everything from web pages to folders is taking way longer to respond than about a week ago. For example, when I clear all history it takes 2x longer than usual to do it. And just in general everything, like when I'm typing something in, it just stops (the whole web page) and then suddenly becomes OK, and does this about every 30 seconds and becomes very annoying (also happens when I press Enter) , and when I'm watching a video roughly about every 2 minutes or so it stops, like I said, (the audio is still playing) and resumes about 15 seconds later. If anyone has suffered this, and/or knows what the problem is please tell, it would be much appreciated.

P.S. I've got a Windows 7 Ultimate.

Try rebooting.

Just some generic Windows advice.

Rebooting? Umm, I've had the problem for almost a week... I've tried rebooting.

Have you made any changes to your computer since it started (downloads included)?

Not that I can remember...

normally i find it happens the more stuff you download

You wouldn't think so, Considering I have a 2TB Hard Drive.

I just decided to cancel it, it was taking far too long, longer than 6 hours... Although I will try it in the future, in the meantime I will play some Witcher and Portal 2 :D.

lol if you dont let it finish, then you wont know if it can fix your problem. Sometimes thats what it takes is a full disk defrag. really every 6months to a year (if you do more then just office programs and serf the web) you should do a full reinstall of windows and wipe your harddrive. that will keep everything running good. Also invest in air blasters and electric safe wipes to clean your computer. use the air to blast dust from fans and what not and the wipes to clean solid surfaces (NOT your MB/GBU, just stuff like fans, case) my friend had a laggin laptop and he had it for 3 years. he was gonna take it to a comp shop who was gonna charge him 100 bucks x_x so i grabbed it from him one morning, sprayed all the dust out of the fans and what not, then it ran like a champ again. Computers take maintenance, you cant just buy and neglect or they wont last.

Take a look under the task manager (Ctrl+Alt+DEL) performance tab and see what CPU usage percentage is and post here. When You Click on a Folder does it take forever to show, or when clicking on my computer do the drives and folders show?

Sorry I haven't been replying for the past 2 days, couldn't go on this website, well basically every website.

Have you tried doing a full virus and malware scan?

Yes, and there is no viruses whatsoever.

Yeah, when I come to think of it, I click on my folders and they take about 10-20 seconds to fully load. But my CPU Usage Percentage only goes to 0-4%.

OK so I decided to do the defragging again, I use Defraggler, and it turns out 61% of my drive was fragmented, I completed it, well almost, the rest of the files won't finish (only 3% left). And so far I don't think it's freezing anymore !
