Slow Downloads

Recommended Posts

I usually get a 700kilobytes/s dl speed, but for some reason today I am getting 70 on here. Everywhere else, including on speedtest.net is fine. Is there an ongoing issue with the download server, or am I an isolated case of bad luck?

  1. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and advertised speed: A small rural ISP in Alberta. Advertised speed: 7Mbps down, 1 up.
  2. Your Browser and Version Latest Firefox
  3. Any other information you feel may be relevant. No antivirus blocking connection. Access to all other sites is 100%.

Most likely be a case of the download server. Try and ping request the destination server to see if you are getting any replies and the ms.

You conducted a speedtest on which server? Local or overseas?

You will get a full 700KB/s on local but lesser on overseas due to the distance or hopping. It is like you're from Canada trying to play a game hosted in Asia, your ping should be about 400 but a 1 or 2ms on local.

Try flushing your DNS cache or restart your router via CMD.

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

@LuciusAvette I did a speedtest to some server in France, and I still got a ping of 190ms. Download 3Mbps, Up 0.6

I followed those CMD prompts as well, and tried pinging LCPDFR.com

I got an average ping of 1054ms, Minimum 170ms, Maximum 2000ms

Is there a specific download server I can ping to?

Wow maximum 2000ms?

1) Are you using wireless or do you have a physical connection to your internet router? Something can be interfering with your wireless connection. Phones, or just your neighbor's wireless connection, etc. Also someone could be leeching your internet if they manage to connect to your wireless network.

2) Usually rebooting the router can help. Turn off your router, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on again.

3) Not enough bandwidth for your neighborhood. Think of internet cable as a water tab that originate from one end of the street to the end. Chances are you won't get much water if the house upstream using all your bandwidth. You can call your provider and complain about it.

4) Somehow the cable that's providing internet has been damaged. If you call your service provider they can check it on their end and hopefully fix it.

No, this isn't on my end. Every other service works perfect. Downloads, websites, etc. on all devices. I have restarted the router many times, the cable is in perfect condition. This must be an issue on LCPDFR.com server.

There are days LCPDFR server might be overloaded. So based on what you've said, you seem to only have issues on this website and it's downloads? Then yeah, it could be LCPDFR itself.

But it could be better to call up your provider and have them run a check on everything; you paid for their service, for a specific amount of speed and bandwidth after all

I can't replicate this. Our monitoring shows that our servers have not been over capacity recently.

It may be the case that there is a contention issue between our frontend provider and your ISP. In which case, only they can solve the issue.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
