Ongoing Incident:

The Turkish Military have supposedly began seizing power from the Turkish President, there are tanks driving up and down the road and the Turkish President is missing and the Military have stated they have seized power and have disarmed the Police Force.

I'll update this when I read more.

Let's hope so. I'm reading up on him and the PM and they are really terrible people. The PM called for literal segregation between males and females.

And this is how it begins.

Soon they will pull out of Nato, and Russia will have their warm water ports.

Doesn't Turkey contribute the most to NATO right after the US? If so, this will spill bad news for NATO in terms of power. Plus, I expect that the US will be kicked out of their air bases which are in Turkey. That means that anti ISIL air bombing will be put on hold.

I also really wouldn't be surprised if the Kurds start something now. Civil war will come soon.

I actually wouldn't blame the kurds if they attempted something, they have been persecuted so much, by the turkish government on one side, and by ISIS on the other, they were literally one of the most fighting frontlines against those mad people... :(

I agree. They deserve their own land. However, that doesn't mean that they should do anything, especially now.

I'm not going to pretend to understand Turkish domestic policy. What I do know is that the PM of Turkey has been leading the country away from secularism, which is a bad direction to go in, especially for the middle east. I've got no love for the current Turkish government, but stability is the goal. Violent military coup isn't exactly what I call stability.

The Turkish Military has always been the protector of the secular Turkish government. (as written into their Constitution).

As Ergodan as not only been providing backdoor support to radical Islamist groups in Syria and Iraq, he has been moving Turkey towards a more religious Islamist government.

Personally, if the coup is there to protect the traditionally secular Turkish Constitution and Government, I hope it succeeds.

Absolutely, I'm not a huge fan of the current government's domestic law. I am hoping, however, that the military stays with Nato

Well, I have a strong disliking for the Turkish goverment, but what that region don't need more of is unrest and spilled blood.

So true, I would much prefer a peaceful transition into a Pro-Europe/Pro-Secular government.

I would like a secular Turkey, but I do not really want a pro-EU Turkey. Due to their location and large borders, I don't trust them to be able to check everyone at their borders, and their country is pretty corrupt.

True, maybe the coup will help that, as of right now the government isn't doing much about ISIS.
