lately, i've noticed considerable slowdown of my browser, whenever i open this site, as well as increased system use by "plugin container". this occurs ONLY on this website. when i kill the plugin container, i do notice that some of the sidebar ads are flash-based

once I reenabled adblock (I had previously whitelisted this site), the performance issues stopped.

I therefore conclude that the flash-based sidebar ads are detrimental to the site users... perhaps it is time to look at some alternatives?

i'd really like to be able to re-whitelist this site again...

yep I was going to say this site is awfully slow then I realized I had adblock turned off so I could use the captcha; sure enough turning it on makes the site go much faster.

You should report which ads make the site go slower.

Using ad-block will only cause us to use more ads, as we need the revenue. Be fair and more considerate, or consider make a donation. I'll let Cyan reply to the technicalities behind this.

A couple questions for you regarding ads:

  • If one makes a donation, are ads disabled for their account?
  • Have you considered signing up for the Amazon affiliate program? You could have a page where we could click your Amazon link before making a purchase, giving you anywhere from 4-10% of the purchase. A lot of us buy a lot of computer hardware on Amazon so it would be an easy way to help you out.
  • Have you considered bringing your ads in line with AdBlock's acceptable ads policy, thereby getting on the default whitelist? You might get a lower CPM for the ads you show, but would be reaching more people.

Thank you for your feedback! I will raise this with our partners.

If adblock activity continues, we may need to take the route of other websites and block users blocking ads. Otherwise I can see no way of us funding LSPDFR or the site. Like blocking ads is your right on your side, blocking adblockers is certainly a right we have on our side. Hopefully it won't need to come to that.

We have no 'premium' programme at this time; there is no option to donate to hide ads.
