Any Flight Sim fans here?

Recommended Posts

Dovetail Games just announced a replacement for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, well, 2 sims, one of them will just be a basic intro to flying for newcomers while a more detailed product will follow some time after.

The Intro sim will give DTG a chance to show off what will possibly be new flight sim features that will be featured in the new full sim to be released later.

Dovetail Games is the company behind the current Train Simulator series and has purchased the rights to Microsofts Flight Simulator franchise and technology.

Press release here: http://www.dovetailgames.com/news/2016/feb/11/dovetail-games-presents-the-flight-simulators-of-the-future

"

Chatham, Kent  8th February 2016 Since acquiring the rights to develop and publish new titles utilizing Microsoft’s genre-defining flight simulation technology back in 2014, Dovetail Games has been clear about its intent to make headlines in the flight simulation category. Today, it is pleased to announce that it will launch two brand new flight simulators in 2016.

Dovetail Games Flight School is first to arrive, and is set to release in April 2016, with Dovetail Games Flight Simulator scheduled for launch in the latter part of the year.

Flight School is a carefully crafted and rewarding experience designed to teach would-be pilots the basics of flying a light aircraft as well as the essential premises of flight simulation. It will offer newcomers to flight simming an engaging and accessible introduction to aviation, whilst also being highly realistic and authentic. Players will learn to fly in iconic training aircraft, undertaking a series of tutorials and training missions, which will provide the perfect introduction to the genre. There will also be a Free Flight mode, for those players who want to head off and explore the entire world.

“Flying an aircraft is a rewarding, awe-inspiring experience unlike any other and we want to give more people the opportunity to enjoy that by breaking down the barriers that make flight simulation feel inaccessible,” said Stephen Hood, Creative Director at Dovetail Games. “By empowering players to handle the controls of the aircraft, we will help them to immerse themselves in the very best and most thrilling aspects of flying in an up-to-date and technically cutting edge environment.”

Paul Jackson, CEO at Dovetail Games added, “People have always dreamt of being able to fly and through Flight School we aim to satisfy that dream and give people the opportunity not only to learn to fly, but to really soar as they explore the world. Flight simulation has always been important in the world of gaming but it hasn’t kept up - the core experience hasn’t progressed since the launch of Microsoft’s Flight Simulator X back in 2006 and that means we’ve missed at least one or maybe even two generations of players who would have adored flight simming, but for whom it wasn’t appropriate. Our aim is to get back to that place, to restore the former glory of flight simulation as an enjoyable and engaging pastime. Consumers today expect a much slicker experience across all genres.  They want simulations that are realistic but also accessible.  They want to be led to a place where the focus can be on reaching great levels of accomplishment, rather than struggling to get to grips with the operational aspects.   And that’s precisely what Flight School will deliver.”

Dovetail Games Flight School and Dovetail Games Flight Simulator will both be available on PC.

My thoughts:

I do hope they follow the tradition of letting third party addons be allowed to be made and/or sold via various outlets like for FSX, If you do not know, DTG's Train Simulator series has very few third party addons.

Why do I recognise the name "Dovetail Games"? What else have they made?

Dovetail Games Euro Fishing and Train Simulator 2016. You're probably thinking of Telltale Games, which does The Walking Dead, Minecraft Story Mode, Game of Thrones, The Wolf Among Us, etc.

Yes, they are responsible for Euro Fishing and every iteration of Train Simulator 20XX

One thing they are known for that you might be thinking of is all of the DLC for Train Simulator 20XX would add up to over $2000 USD which many people have the misconception of thinking that having all of the available DLC will make the game complete, This is wrong, The Train Simulator 20XX is very much a complete game without any DLC and DTG knows that not everyone will buy every piece of DLC for it as the DLC caters only to certain people.

As for me, I prefer passenger trains, so you will not see me running out to buy freight train addons, I also do not care for steam trains, again, will not buy, Just the same, not every passenger train offering is appealing to me, For I think every United Kingdom Passenger EMU looks the same lol.

Nope, I was definitely thinking of Dovetail, and it's because I've owned their Train Simulator games since... not sure, actually. Possibly Train Simulator 2011. I keep getting free upgrades to the latest version every year which is nice.

Ah'm orderin' you to STAHP!

I see Dovetail's at it again with a new "simulator". Knowing them, they'll bog that down with DLC as well...

(For the record and those not aware, the current total cost of DLC for FSXSE [80 items]...)

(...and TS [256 items!].)

Quite frankly, Dovetail may make a better (or more optimised) flight simulator than FSX, but until they change their damn business model I won't buy it.

Another game with insane amount of DLCs for insane prices! Wooohooo!

You should look at what is being made for FSX,(some stuff still being made as we speak)

Not much different, What Dovetail has on the FSX Steam Page is possibly not even 1% of whats out there for the 10 year old game.

Those are just a few examples, Like I mentioned above, I am hoping that they will allow third party addons both free and paid using the same tried and true methods of how aircraft and scenery have been made for the last 10 years.

I have enjoyed flight sim since FS95 through FSX. I finally made the move to Lockheed Martin Prepar3d v3 and have been very pleased. The addons that I use are Orbx FTX Global, Orbx FTX Vector, PMDG 737 NGX, PMDG 777, Fs2Crew, REX 4 Texture Direct w/Soft Clouds and Opus FSI. Although FSX has been a stable flight simulator platform, I am hesitant to believe that DoveTail Games will produce anything more than an arcade style flight simulator. It is my opinion that if you want a flight simulator with complicated systems and real life procedures, go with FSX, Prepar3d or X-Plane. I also hope that DoveTail will allow third party addons.

There also appears to be another flight simulator in development here:

According to steam I have played 659 hours of X-plane 10 and can say it is better than a default FSX. Like someone said before, you throw in a few visual mods to FSX and that can enhance it a lot more.

I recently added my first freeware scenery with sloped runway into FSX :3
