Recording with new GPU

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

As per a topic I posted recently titled Upgrade Time, I have upgraded my PC. My new specs are down below in my signature.

However, I did a test single player video in GTA IV the other day, since I figured I'd take advantage of my new GPU, and try start doing some GTA IV Single Player videos, that I could never do with my previous GPU, with decent quality. However, the video I uploaded here is the video I recorded that day.

Notice, how my voice is fast forwarded, and sounds like a chipmunk (lol), and the movement of the game, makes it seem like I have a crap system, which I do not.

Any thoughts on how to remedy this? My recording software is Bandicam (My own personal preference), as I have never gotten along with FRAPS, since I started with GTA IV & LCPDFR.

From what I understand, when you record its more about RAM and CPU than about GFX. Your card should be able to record just fine, but idk how many Cores you have on the 3.5GHZ CPU. Should have more than enough RAM there and possibly the R/W on your HDD could be a bottleneck. I am able to record GTA IV SP, I have a 2.4 GHz Quad Core 8GB of Ram (2 X 4 sticks) but recording GTA V causes texture loss and crappy video.

One last thing to try is finding a new program, I have found that some work and some don't

Hi guys,

I'm not sure why Bandicam would do that (but it's absolutely hilarious lol), but I think you should try Shadowplay, instead. It comes with the drivers for your graphics card (Nvidia cards) and allows you to record and "Shadow" record, meaning you can save x amount of time prior to pressing the button. It's very useful for capturing epic moments that you weren't expecting or recording.

It is also one of the lightest recording programs available, meaning it doesn't steal resources. This means that you won't have any noticeable lag while recording, which is nice.

If you don't have it already, here's the link: http://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience/shadowplay

That's incorrect, all are a major factor and the GPU matters a lot because it takes work load off of things that might otherwise be passed onto the CPU. Professional video or graphic editors have large GPUs in their work station computers for this reason. Oddly enough, the 960 isn't as great as a lot of people think it is.

I have a GeForce 670 right now. Note that the overall score in 3DMark is only a 5% difference, despite the generational gap. The 670 actually has more memory bandwidth and a higher texel rate. What all of this means is that the results with recording will likely be the same as what I get, depending on what graphical sacrifices you're willing to make for the sake of smooth video. The 970 or the 980 would yield a much more noticeable overall difference (44% for the 970, 80% for the 980).

It has four. i5's don't have hyper-threading.

That might be true to an extent (a solid state drive would certainly help), but recording and playing on the same PC is a tall order with advanced game engines. Your best bet in general is to have a second computer to record the video onto, that way the video card in the gaming PC only has to render everything on screen once, for display only, and not record it to a raw video file at the same time.

I'd suggest ditching Bandicam and trying something else. I use FRAPS but you get some performance loss. You'll have to adjust your graphics settings to match it, or get a different video card.

So, I've taken a look at ShadowPlay, and its settings.

If you've had experience with it, does it record audio from TeamSpeak as well, or just based on its settings (In Game, In Game & Mic, Off)?

I chose Bandicam, because I know for sure it will capture TeamSpeak audio as well.

I'd Google search for the answer. Or you can just try it right now and test it. I'd imagine it just captures in-game only since it has less performance impact than traditional recording software, and it was patched in to older nVidia cards and comes standard on brand new ones. It only records for 20 minutes at a time, also. FRAPS can record audio from other applications and your microphone if you tell it to do so in the settings panel.

ShadowPlay does exactly what it says, records ingame and mic, ingame, or nothing.

That's only true for the 'shadow' feature. It will record as long as you want it to when recording manually.

Yeah, I know it'll record my mic.

But, I'm wondering if it'll record other people talking to me on TeamSpeak, since I hope to upload Multi-player games.
Footage won't be that great, if you can only hear myself talking

Then test it.
