He's not really doing either of those two last things you mentioned. He's doing what the U.S.A. has been doing for years; attempting to keep the "right people" in power to keep the most "productive" relationship possible.

Yes, but either alternative is a rather shitty hand dealt. It's basically as BogdanM stated, "my dictator is better than yours" hand of cards. Although I'd argue if Russia is trying to keep one person in power over another, or trying to keep a relationship steady for one reason or another, why would Nato be opposed to this and try to stop Russia from doing this given their track record is none too shiny when it comes to this subject.

My point was however that Putin is doing something whereas Turkey and other Nato countries are virtually doing nothing to stop this threat. I think Obama is more hollywood than anything else, he talks a big game but outside of that there is really nothing there. Why would Turkey mind if Russia was using their airspace to stop a globally increasing threat to everyone who doesn't agree with their radical ideas and medieval mindset? Turkey seems to be doing absolutely nothing to help the cause, they certainly have a military and if they're opposed to using said military for whatever reason, then why not let another country like Russia use their expense to deal with it? Do we really need another 9/11 to have everyone jump in and say "that's enough" ?

  • I actually meant the opposite, that other NATO countries didn't do the same thing under similar circumstances, that Turkey's response was disproportionate to the level of threat. I don't believe Turke

The United States has been bombing and droning in that area for far longer than any other country. We spearhead NATO. France and Russia are new participants. Russia is bombing to keep their raw material connections in tact, we are bombing to keep our raw material connections in tact and to stem the tide of ISIS. Once Russia gets enough Islamic terrorist attacks on their soil, they'll probably go after these people more aggressively. Who knows how many it will take. Other NATO countries will likely have the U.S. do the heavy lifting unless its absolutely necessary they throw more of their might against the middle eastern militias who oppose us.
