Will I be able to run GTA IV?

Ultra ABOVE 60 FPS? Holy crap!

And you're sure this CPU will do fine?

Now I'm not 100% sure on Ultra 60, but with the right combination you'll have some pretty high settings (at least very close to Ultra) and the game will look really good, I mean really good.

And yes, the CPU will do great. There is no need to worry, high-end i5's are just as good (and sometimes better) than i7's when it comes to gaming. Unless, of course, you bought some several thousand dollar CPU.

the GPU should do fine, i believe the 970 had the failure with VRAM only being 3gb and not 4gb (can't remember exactly what the issue was) although with that card you should be able to play on high- very high settings.

my 780Ti runs GTA V on the highest settings (except for the extras which are disabled due to it heating up my graphics card) and i get 60fps. you should have no issues running it at that.

3.5GB, because one of the memory controllers was ultra slowed down, meaning that whenever that is used, your FPS eats the shitter.

Could anyone supply a video of their graphics card playing LCPDFR?

With an ENB such as Cry or EyeCandy running at high settings, as well as the game at high settings (of course with some sort of CPU counter). No crazy playing, just normal patrolling LCPDFR.

It would *really* help with my research and documentation stuff for buying this.

I'd recommend staying away from the i5-4xxx series, this computer with a i5-6600K and a Z170 chipset is a win.

It's expensive and performs lesser than the other model.

Plus it's a DDR4 board and has expensive ram. I'm not wanting that skylake CPU anymore as it's just upping the cost.

Skylake still has compatibility with DDR3 I believe, with DDR3 boards available last time I checked.

It's not exactly apples to apples comparison. Skylake has a smaller process, meaning quieter operation, less fans needed, less power and better per core performance. Not to mention that it apparently comes in a sweet looking box.
Oh and this,

Look, once again I'm not interested in a skylake processor simply because the RAM is more expensive with a Z170 board. I might consider an i7 4790k if needed but I'm probably still sticking with the i5 4690k.

Hey bud, I have a i5-4690k, MSI Z97 gaming 5 motherboard, 8gb 2133mhz ram, and a MSI GTX660 2gb DDR5 and I have all settings on very high with exception of textures is only on high. Drawing distance is all the way up and I run MXAA x2 and TXAA on for nvidia cards and my game runs fine. So if you get what you have listed you wont have not a single problem running it at good frames especially since your getting a 980 and I only have a 660.

Gotta use pcpartpicker, makes sorting everything much easier, also compiles prices from the reputable stores. Here's your build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/XRXMsY

1. Unless your doing video editing, you don't need 16 gb of ram

2. You can buy a B-stock EVGA 980, they're refurbished by the manufacturer and cost much less w/ warranty. http://www.evga.com/Products/ProductList.aspx?type=8

3. You don't need to buy windows 10, you can buy 7/8 which are usually cheaper and use the free upgrade.

My edit

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/DRXMsY

Total: $1234

Also look out for sales as were getting into the holiday season. i.e the samsung evo 250gb is frequently on sale (don't be fooled by the amazon 'sale' price, $90 is pretty much the regular price for it on there). and should drop below $70 before christmas multiple times.

I'm using Amazon and that's it.

I'm also not using pcpartpicker due to that it's pickings on certain retailers are not the best prices.

I'm buying Windows 10 so I can have the box and the USB there. I am certainly not buying an OEM.

I do need 16GB ram.

And I am definitely not buying that graphics card.
