I understand people's pain but a lot of you act really childish about it, you need to understand Rockstar don't care about mods, or anybody making them, and no, it's not intentional, it's not 'the man' killing the community and wanting to destroy people's fun, it's them not thinking about mods when they make their game, because like i've said a million times, they don't support mods, it doesn't mean they hate them or love them, they just don't acknowledge them because it's not their problem..

Modding is a big part of PC gaming, but if Rockstar doesn't support modding,i'm sorry, but tough shit, we're still going to mod and I LOVE mods, don't get me wrong, but you all need to quit the entitled shit, the multiplayer is real fun with friends, and the updates are really cool, they could of ditched the game on PC updates wise, or NEVER released it in the first place so accept we have this great body to work with and that you're getting mods in the first place.

I'd genuinely like to see where you're getting this sort of information from, I mean, besides from your ass.

  • Why will it break the mods folder?

  • First, let me say I fucking despise what GTA Online has done to this series. With that said, you shouldn't have to worry. I've checked through the files, and it just added two files named "mpluxe2" un

Except they ARE doing the shit on purpose and they DO hate modders. Look at LSPDFR for example. x50000 more fun that shitty ass GTA Online and its FREE. Not to mention things like trainers which allow you do to WHATEVER you want in the game and have any type of fun you want for as long as you want. What did rockstar give us... a lousy infinite health cheat code that lasts 5 mins. This latest DLC is even more proof. The lowrider cars aren't even available for single player. People would rather get the PC version of the game, mod it to their choosing, and play and have fun. Not be restricted to the garbage console version with nothing to do that gets boring in 2 months.

Now, take a look at GTA 4. The game was out for years, no updates that ruined modding, even the file structure was easy to understand, now we have 30 different places to put things in Open IV and its a pain in the ass. GTA 4s online was free and fun, then Rockstar realized they could make money off of it from little kids and here we are today. You wake up one morning, and are forced to download a DLC patch that you don't want, and boom... your game wont even start anymore. So I'm stuck with a broken game, and for how long... who knows. My only option is to reinstall the game from scratch and lose all the 100s of mods that took me days to install. Yeah, no thanks. Might as well play the shitty console version.

My point is, Rockstar SAYS they don't care about modding, but thats it. Their actions prove otherwise. They hate modding because it takes away from the GTAO playerbase, which costs them cashcard $$$. So they release updates that break the game for PC modders like myself. ARMA 2 and ARMA3 are good examples of game companies (Bohemia) listening to their fans. %100 mod support, and their patches and updates dont break the game for modders on purpose like rockstar does.

So you're telling me they intentionally throw out updates to kill modders?

I really doubt that dude, and you don't understand, they're not doing this shit to fuck with us, they just don't give a shit about the repercussions on modders and their work, also you seem to think every person who bought it on PC uses mod's and all that jazz? If we went with your options of ditching updates, what about the people who enjoyed gta online like myself and a hell of a lot of other people do too? And wouldn't you be just as bad as rockstar, stopping one player base from enjoying a game it was intended to be made like, even though modding was NEVER intended for GTA and we're pushing everything past the boundaries?

Accept this is how it is bro, they're not here to fuck with us, they're tending to the larger audience, there's a whole three consoles they can provide for and make profit from, and you make it sound like their updates are trash, from what i've seen they've all been solid polished updates, adding to the original game, which is like 2 years old now.

It's selfish to think 'our type' of people are the only ones who should be tended to, and at the end of the day, rockstar's a business, they're not nobody's friend, they're going to make shit thats going tomake money, I hardly see mod support making them any money, as anybody who was going to mod gta 5 or use mods on gta 5 has already bought the game and it'll just be wasting resources as they're not making anything back.

IF they wanted to kill modding, trust me, you'd know about it.

I got you, that's why I said (or rather wished) that there was literally a singleplayer only version of the game to tinker with, or like some "offline" version, that way you please both sides. That said, I played GTAO for almost 2 years non stop on X360 and X1, and it just isn't fun for me and alot of other people anymore. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to reinstall the entire game and try to get my mods working again.

Unless you can cite a credible source that remotely says Rockstar "hates" modders and all that mumbo jumbo you're spewing, all you're really doing is talking out of your ass. Last time I checked GTA Online is free, the Shark Cards are completely optional and aren't needed to play, or have fun with the game. You also stated you played GTA:O for 2 years, yet apparently it's pointless in your own words. So what is it? Pointless or something that you actually found fun given you sunk 2 years into it? Don't be a hypocrite.

What actions prove that they're targeting the modders? Are you seriously arguing something that is FREE, would you rather them charge money for all the content drops they've released thus far? I'm sorry if this sounds rude, but any moron arguing against free content is just that, a moron.GTA IV was god awful, they didn't support that game whatsoever, they received backlash from the PC crowd because of this, they literally ported the game and dropped a huge unfinished turd onto the PC's doorstep, awful, awful optimization, piss poor support all around. Then, they release GTA V, a complete 180 turn. They're constantly doing updates, fixes, content releases despite the game being nearly 3 years old now. To add onto this, GTA V broke numerous records....one of them being the most sold game so far. This means the console's alone generated more than enough money for Rockstar to not even have to release the game on PC, or even update, fix, or do any of what they're doing now.

ArmA is not a good example of mod support, at all - if anything it's a bad example. And by the way, patches for ArmA 3 do break mods, not all of them, but it most certainly does break some of them dependent on the mod. ArmA relies heavily on mod authors to create content for their games, in fact a general argument that floated around was the only reason ArmA sold the way it did to a rather niche market is because of the DayZ mod. A huge fundamental part of ArmA is the fact that modding is generally what makes the game fun, which isn't necessarily a good thing, nor a bad thing at the same time, however there is something to be said where the only redeemable quality to your game is the fact that mods are the reason your game stays afloat isn't necessarily a good one.

Last but not least, you have to be incredibly naive to think Rockstar would spend their development resources on creating additional content years later for all the platforms to specifically target a minority group modding their single player experience. It took me about an hour (using the mod folder method), to add certain stuff back in (granted I basically modded 80% of the game too, so), it was a small inconvenience and really isn't worth getting bent out of shape for.  Also, I spent about $10 bucks on a couple Shark Cards, mostly because I don't have the time like I used to anymore juggling a wife and a newborn son, however I thoroughly enjoy GTA:O with friends, does this make me a kid?

All I'm saying is these "free" updates should be optional. Thats like having a perfectly good running car and then the car company says "hey we are gonna go ahead and rip your entire drive train apart and install a new one, so yeah, step aside please"

You got to understand, R* is giving us free servers to play on, how else would they pay for the server and such?

And your point being? If Toyota came to me and told me that there is a new and improved Engine for my Toyota Supra and said that the update would be free, I wouldn't complain. On the flipside your analogy doesn't really make any sense, you're comparing apples to oranges and not something directly related to the industry. Keep in mind that the DLC wasn't just DLC, the update fixed a lot of issues, it wasn't just an update for new cars/addons. A lot of the update covered issues and fixes with the stability in both GTA Online and Single player, among several exclusive issues fixed for the PC only. I would highly suggest to go look at the patch notes.

I think that Tank guy pic avatar doesn't know what his talking about.

GTA 4 patch break most mods several times and it needs to update ( well duh, its common sense because each patch contains a different version of the exe so most mods that were only compatible to the previous version needs to have an update for the new version ...)

Besides, its always recommended to use mod files and Rockstar latest patch only changed one rpf file which is update.rpf.
