Retail or Steam best for LSPDFR???

Hey guys, First time back here since the LCPDFR days and finally decided to buy GTA V. One question tho, Does LSPDFR work better or favor one of the two versions of the game? I was planning on picking the disc version up in the morning when we go to town but wasnt sure if it causes more problems than downloading from steam or somewhere else online? Thanks in advance I appreciate it and look forward to all the upcoming amazing work here at LSPDFR.

Steam is less of a hassle when it comes to modding and backups.

I personally use the retail version as it was quite a lot cheaper than Steam and I have slow internet, which means downloading the whole game isn't an option. There really isn't much of a difference when it comes to modding though, apart from the fact that it's (apparently) easier to stop the game from updating if needed. 

The only real upside to the Steam version is the fact that you'll never have to reinstall the game at all unless you delete it from your steamapps folder (After a fresh Windows install for example). Installing GTA from discs is a pain in the ass, especially when you have 7 of the damn things followed by updates....

It doesn't matter. I have the retail version, there is no difference in modding or backups.

I've the retail version, and I prefer the retail version anyway. Because if you try to mod something and you screw it up, you have the CDs to reinstall/repair the game. While with the Steam version, you have 65GB of download. Choice is easy.

They're really both the same. Both versions can be fixed if modding goes wrong, both versions work the same. the only difference is ones physical and ones digital. Modding wise there's no difference. if you have decent internet speed then go for digital if not then go the disc version.

No, the steam version doesn't check your files and attempt to redownload portions of the game if it detects modified .RPF files, unless you implicitly tell it to. Also with steam if you need to revert to an earlier version, it's just a matter of copy and paste, and you don't have some intrusive launcher trying to repatch your game every time you play.

If you're using a mods folder with the OpenIV.asi, the launcher doesn't check the modified files there. So the 'auto-scan' thingy isn't really a valid argument.

Not a problem for me, but a lot of people are tight on space, or they don't want to use a mods folder, and at least with steam, it's an option and not a necessity.

It seems like the OP already had made up his mind anyway, so I'm not sure why this is even a topic. Buy the game wherever you want.
