Proud to finally call myself a Registered Nurse.

Featured Replies

"Holy shit, I can't believe I actually pulled it off" is all I can think of when I hold my license in my hand; it is just so surreal. After four years of hard work and dedication , I can finally call myself a "Registered Nurse." I have constantly doubted myself all throughout nursing school and at times, I honestly didn't think I was going to make it. But I did, and I have never been happier.

It's amazing how only a few weeks ago I could still get away with, "Hold on, let me go get your nurse" if a patient needed anything anything beyond a bed bath; a phrase that I will have to retire since, well, I am the nurse now. I'm not exactly sure how I feel about it. On one hand, I'm excited, but on the other, I'm morbidly terrified. However, I do know one thing for certain: that I am damn proud to be able to put "RN" after my name, and the amount of responsibility that goes along with it.

Congratulations man, never give up. Always strive for higher accomplishments and NEVER give up. When you give up, you've only defeated yourself. Don't worry about what others think or say. One day they'll be dead, then what? Are you still worried about how they called you an idiot in their grave? Absolutely not. Good luck!

Congratulations! Pursuing a career in medicine is a bold choice, considering that a hospital can be a very harsh environment. But there's a big need for good nurses and I think you'll do a great job.

As a med student, I know how helpful nurses are, especially when they're very experienced and you're just out of university. It is a hard job, but I think it is as satisfying as most of the jobs in medicine are. You'll be making people's lives better, even be saving lives and that is something you can draw a very special satisfaction from. It is dirty, there's blood, there's fecies and every other body fluid - but still - a great field to work in.

Do you have any special field in your mind you wanna work in? Like ICU?

Yeah, I was a nursing assistant for the past year and there were days where I just wanted to hide in the clean supply room and never come out. I remember when I had a patient rip out their bloody IV and chuck it at me, or when I had two patients code right at shift change. But then there are those days where a patient will tell you how much you've helped them and how they genuinely appreciated it and that alone makes up for all the god awful days. It is honestly the best feeling in the world.

I am currently very interested in oncology, but I'll be starting my new job in Medical Telemetry on Monday. I was interested in the ICU for a while, but I don't think I'm even close to being ready for that at this point.

Quick question do they really call an ambulance a bus in New York?

I don't work in NYC, so I couldn't tell you. Everyone calls it an "ambulance" where I am (upstate). I'll let you know when I finally get a job in NYC, haha.
