Need Help Tweaking Settings, etc to fix FPS

Featured Replies

Hi, I just downloaded GTA V yesterday, and my FPS is all over the place. It seems completely random as well, at times it is is at 60 and others it is at 15, the average seems to be about 20-25 FPS. I've turned V-sync off, have AA on FXAA and am running medium-high settings. Note: I did try to optimize using GeForce Experience, but my framerate was just as bad.

Specs:

GTX 860m (2gb)

4Core Intel i7 Haswell @2.4 GhZ

16gb RAM

Thanks.

It is strange how just restarting the game can improve fps sometimes.  I spent a couple hours testing different settings to get a decent look and the car drives reasonably well.  But some times the game doesn't start out well and I have to reload.  Tinkering is about all you can do because every computer is so different.  Start with everything low and slowly add things in and try your other options.  You can definitely tell when the graphics card starts getting hot.  The small text goes all fuzzy on my computer after about an hour. But restarting can sometimes improve it drastically and last for a couple hours.  Memory fills up I suppose.

I lowered my resolution to 1280/720 , lowered draw distance and vehicle density  and turned down to normal a lot of the options.  Better fps and made it much easier to drive.

I have a 765m and get 50-60 average. I have everything on high except shaders and shadows(soft shadows are on soft,  with no aa, tessellation, or ambient occlusion. anisotropic filtering on x16 because it doesn't really affect fps, but you can mess around with that. Draw Distance, Peds/Ped variety are all at 50%. no advanced settings on.

Maybe it will work better if not tweak it further you should be able to find that sweet spot.

Thanks, my laptop is on high-performance mode, but for some reason I can't get Nvidia control panel to open to make sure I am not using the integrated graphic card, any ideas on why that is?

Hello

I have the same specs on my laptop and able to get a solid 60fps (sometimes dips to 50ish).

I'd definitely look at whether you're using the integrated card. Are you saying you can't get into the manage 3D settings from your nvidia control panel? Maybe try a reinstall of all nVidia drivers and software?

Well, Ill Gotten 2 has been reported to have introduced FPS issues, and I am definitely noticing them and it's unbearable at times. My i7-4771, 16 RAM, and GTX 780 had been smooth as butter on High-VHigh most times before the last update.

Update- fixed the issue by uninstalling my Intel GPU drivers and getting the game to register my Nvidia. Reinstalled GTA 5 and voilla- it was silky smooth. Currently running on GeForce optimized settings and its fine. Thanks for all of the support!
