'GTA IV has stopped responding' (During gameplay)

Recommended Posts

Hey, firstly I'm new to modding, so go easy on me, if I come across as a little slow at times.

Basically, my issue is this: I can launch the game, start LCPDFR, and play for anytime between 5-120 minutes without issues, however my game will just inexplicably crash without warning (no frame drop, no stutter, it literally just shuts down) and then show me the 'GTA IV has stopped responding' message. Now I know that it's a poorly optimised game, however surely I should be able to play for more than 5 minutes.

Here are my system stats:

GTA IV: 1.0.7.0 Steam Version, LCPD:FR 1.0d

Mods: Smooth ENB (Found here), Yard1's LSPD GTA V police pack, ELS V8

System: Windows 8.1 64bit

Asus M5A97 Evo 2.0 Motherboard

Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX750 ti GPU

16GB RAM

1.5TB HDD

250GB SSD (where GTA IV is installed)

My PC is pretty much brand new, about 10 days old, and I could run GTA IV + the mods listed above without any issues about 3 days ago, no lagging, stuttering, and only 1 crash in about 12 hours playing. However now my game seems to crash. I have tried running it as an admin, but then I get the SecRom error

The best way to avoid random crashes like this is to play with as few mods as possible (no ENB, no ELS, no car mods).

But I could play with them without issue a few days ago. I installed another pack over the other police cars, and thats when things started to go wrong. So I reinstalled the pack I was using before and the troubles continued. Just seems stupid that now suddenly the game is really unstable when before it was fine, and my PC is good enough to run it with relative ease.

That's pretty much GTA IV modding in a nutshell.

I'm learning that fast haha. Looking back, I installed LCPDFR, then ELS. So I might try, reinstalling LCPDFR again, so that the advancedhook are the lcpdfr ones, not the ELS ones, and see how that goes. I forgot to backup my files from when I installed the ENB, so I appear to be stuck with it, after reinstalling it, they remained, and also doing the 'verify game cache' on Steam, didn't help out either =/

ENBs add a bunch of files that won't be removed by simply replacing it with a backup or reinstalling. You have to uninstall the game, then delete the entire GTA IV directory, then reinstall.

I think that's what I did? I deleted all my local files through Steam, then redownloaded from steam, and reinstalled, if that's what you mean?

"Delete local content" only uninstalls the game. The installer doesn't know about the ENB files so it leaves them. You need to go to the directory and actually delete the ENB stuff. The directory should be similar to this: C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonGrand Theft Auto IV

Ah, ok! I'll give it a shot on Sunday when I'm home. Thankyou :)
